Win and You're In; I'm Sold

So here's a scenario: Reed Sorenson is running toward the rear of the pack this coming weekend at Talladega, on the last lap coming out of 4, the big one happens and wipes out half of the field. Somehow, Sorenson makes it through the melee and gets to the line first.
Next weekend, at Kansas, weather threatens and a late caution comes out. Sorenson is running 28th, last car on the lead lap. Everybody pits and Sorenson stays out. It begins to sprinkle and the race finishes short, under yellow for rain.
Sorenson "earns" his way into The Chase while 32nd in points? I know it's a stretch but it reveals a serious flaw in the new format.

I am actually kind of rooting for a story at Talladega like last year when David Regan won. I am just wondering how much of a sh** storm it would cause though if David Regan makes the chase and Gordan, Hamlin, Tony, Kenseth and others don't

The armchair protesters from twitter will riot :bigfight:

I have a better chance of winning the 2016 Presidential Election than Homestead has of not having a caution in the last 10 laps.
Depending on who's where, it could be like the Nationwide finale where every caution but the last is 4 or 5 laps and then suddenly we need 12 laps to clean the track.

Reed would NOT make it in under the conditions which YOU mentioned

Sure, everyone seems happy with this ridiculous point system until drivers start getting eliminated later in the year. Going to be some pissed off people after homestead too and lots of "what if" and "should haves"

Add up the points at the end of the year and crown a champ

Gimmicky crap

Yes, because if someone doesn't agree with something you say they are obviously trying to start an argument.
Sorry I misunderstood what you were trying to say. I should have somehow known you meant bump and run when you talked about drivers getting moved for blocking.

Apology accepted. Now we can move on. :)

Note: It's important to comprehend what someone said BEFORE agreeing or disagreeing.

Who cares? The fans. If Reed were to make the chase off of some BS win, he'd be taking the place of another driver could potentially be competitive for a championship. That's ridiculous. Thats why I think even a driver like Harvick who has 2 wins but sits 20th in points shouldnt make the chase if he doesnt advance position. Sure, he had a good enough car to win 2/26 races... but his season has been total **** otherwise. That's not championship caliber.

Exactly, say Gordon is 2nd in points after Richmond with 0 wins and Harvick sits 17th in points with 2 or more wins. He fills Gordon's spot. :bsflag:

That sucks he should've won a race :idunno:

So you're line of thinking is that if Gordon, or any other driver, scores top 5s and 10s for the rest of the season & holds a firm top 5 in the points and is on track to have a championship winning season but doesn't score a win by Richmond II, he should be eliminated from competition completely but give his position to another driver who scored 2 wins in the first 9 races but has had a piss poor season since and sits in the 20s in the points deserves a run at the cup more than the previous driver?

We all know the rules of win & yer in. We get it. But if this scenario plays out it will take huge credibility away from winning a title. The last time a driver only won 1 race & was good enough to win the championship, NASCAR changed the rules completely. I think they've come full circle.

Used to be that you would have jumped on that in 30 seconds or less, you are slipping big time

I dont even want my driver anywhere near the gimmick of the year, trust me the championship will be pretty much meaningless IMO

Yep. I agree it could be meaningless, depending on who wins. I actually wouldn't mind your boy winning it this year. I know that you will find this offensive, but I like the new kyle.

I can't believe that so many people love this ' made for tv drama '. Pro wrestling doesn't have this much schlock . No other driver in the field was 'trying to win ' when Kenseth won all those races last year ? Jimmie Johnson isn't trying to win this year? I'm not a Jimmie Johnson fan , but if Reed Sorenson or Trevor Bayne make the chase and Jimmie and Jeff don't make the chase , I will be severely pissed .

Thats awesome !!! I knew you would sooner or later

:fixed:

IMO you should not be allowed in the chase winless. Solid finishes are nice and all, but winning is what racing is and should be about.

Apparently, it will take some longer than others. :)
