WNBA

THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T BENCH CAITLIN CLARK.
She played 38:45 lol

She was getting taken out on defensive possessions in the final minute is all. She gets targeted on defense because she’s just not a good on-ball defender yet. Get a defensive specialist on the floor and call a TO when you get the ball back to sub her back in for offense. Rinse and repeat. That’s just how late-game subs work when there are timeouts galore.

Rookie watch: Rickea Jackson 7/11 from the field for 16 points in the Sparks’ win against the Aces. Kate Martin got her first career start for Vegas and was 5/7, including 3/3 from 3PT. Cam Brink struggled shooting but had an absurd 5 blocks.

Another sold out Fever away game. Need Boston to catch fire.
College baseball and NHL too, busy night.

It’s crazy they got this Connecticut team three times in thirteen games to open the season, tbh. Only one more matchup this year and that’s after the Olympic break, mercifully. Much more manageable schedule the rest of this month.

Lot of bricks thrown up by the Fever plus the Sun being good.
Makes the victories that much sweeter when the Fever get them.

Carrington is the most underrated player in the league. She’s on attack at all times.

They need to win a few more for the Fever to have a shot at Beucker. :pbjtime:
The draft lottery is pretty interesting. They actually use the combined record of the past two years to establish the four lottery teams, and the worst of the four has a 44% chance at the top pick. The Mystics finished six games better last season so the Fever still have some cushion for the best odds.

Angel Reese, fourth straight double double.

While the statements from the media last week were very much premature because the stats didn’t line up, now they hold true. Reese is, atm, the best rookie in this draft class by a country mile.

Fantastic game by both Boston (who had a career game) and Mitchell.

On another note, the media is hurting Clark's chances of making it big in the WNBA.

Building someone up just to tear them down is an American media tradition.

I’ll have a thread in the podium later. What I’ve seen in the last two days from the media and read online is legitimately infuriating, and I kind of wish Clark would go play in Europe or Canada and let this league descend back to poverty and irrelevance.

Angel knows where her bread is buttered and that’s in being Clark’s foil.

12 PM ET Sunday on big CBS.

My only problem with her is that she plays the victim card all the time and wants to be liked.

If you want to be the villain, be the villain. People who play the villain role usually more liked when they do just that.

This will be the first WNBA game I watch this season. Moving forward, I'm gonna post any and all of my WNBA chatter in the Podium thread.

Why? This is the thread for sports. I consider the WNBA a sport and not a political or other controversial subject.
...because we now have multiple threads about the WNBA in two different places, and since I spend 99.9% of my time on this forum in the Podium, I'd prefer to use the thread about it that was created down there. The main few people who have been posting in this thread and have posted in that one already have Podium access anyway.

If you or anyone else prefers to continue to talk about it here, that's obviously fine. Do you. I'ma do me, and if I choose to continue to say anything about the WNBA, it'll be downstairs. See ya down there...or not. ✌️

Your choice, however, the thread in the podium was basically about Caitlin Clark and how he was being treated. This, IMHO is the appropriate thread for WNBA conversation.

Look, man, the appropriate thread for WNBA conversation for me is the one that I choose to--

Caitlin Clark is amazing, but the WNBA is hard to watch. In this Fever game today I've seen more layups missed than an average high school boys team misses in a season.
Funniest part of Reese’s game, imo. Not saying it’s just her, either - far from it - but it’s really the only aspect missing for her. Great rebounder, great defender, is somehow a ~35% shooter while playing < 4 feet from the rim most of the time.

It definitely ain’t the NBA or even a men’s college game, but you can find entertainment value in some of the layup lottery out there.

A very large portion of her rebounds are on her own missed layups.

I like Angel but there are times she looks like a high school JV player.

Clark, Boston and Mitchell all playing well is a lethal combination.
We sometimes forget that Boston was rookie of the year last year. It will be interesting to see how the fever progresses. I think there is a big overall improvement in Clark. Clark's numbers today were very good.
