Sometimes business sucks. Sometimes you have to make very difficult decisions.
But for the good of your team and your entire organization , you must make that hard decision.
People like Lombardi and Belichick have shown us that it is better to let that aging star go one year too soon rather than one year too late.

I think most people understand this but there are obviously a couple here that don't.

even better when he leaves with a knife in his back eh?

. My opinion is Joe Gibbs is a narcissistic control freak that cares nothing about others.

IDK if your opinion is correct but I believe you are honest and never suspected you of cloaking your dislike of Joe Gibbs.

Poor old Joe has the lowest net worth of the larger teams, good thing Toyota is supporting the TV preacher.

He got one like. So, that makes two who think so.

All I can go with is what someone says unless actions make it unbelievable.

The last time I heard Joe Gibbs do an invocation my living room filled with up with blood.

Joe has incredible powers.....:D

I have not heard Joe speak since his last go round with the Redskins. Is he on TV much and if so does he proselytize?

Old TV preacher is always looking to save some souls.
I wouldn't be surprised if MY TRD isn't on the preachers list.

I am not doubting what you are saying but I was wondering if he has a TV gig, radio show or some other platform where he is regularly seen or heard proselytizing?

Where is Joe? Big story about Preese in one of his cars, I'm pretty sure they would have some questions about the Kenseth deal. Pockrass is really good about that sort of thing.

Joe answered those questions this morning on NASCAR America actually.

Oh he's good, he should have put a bit more quiver in he voice, just loves ol Matt, loves his family, it Carl's fault retire?. Been planning for years? just what was the plan? :D, back when Eric and Daniel were in grade school I guess. Team decision..that's a good one. Kyle and Denny decision thinks it's a good idea to "watch our backs". I have to agree.:p Yeah Matt was really close until Hamlin booted him out of the way at Daytona;)

Top or bottom half?

Nothing should surprise me but I am surprised that people have negative feelings about Joe Gibbs as he isn't controversial and doesn't handle the day to day operations of the team from what I understand. Of course if I dedicated every moment of every day in front of the computer, as some do, posting tweet after tweet in addition to you tube videos and cut and paste stories I suppose I could come up with something.

Preacher Joe should really be a politician.

IDK what Joe has done that is wrong or immoral? I get that some people don't like him and are twisting his decision not to renew Matt's contract into some sort of evil occurrence but you don't strike me as one of those types which is why I am asking.

Give it up. I'm with you, but you're beating your head on multiple walls. For whatever reason, some people can't view professional sports as a business where contracts mean nothing, esp. when the contract is expiring anyway. I love me some Kenseth, but was Gibbs supposed to run him forever? If you can't let a guy go when his contract is up, I don't know when you can.

IMO, old man Jibbs is a cut throat SOB. He smiles in public, but clubs baby Seals when no one is watching.

Y'all have to take a breath here and give Joe a break. He had already turned the team over to his son to run the day by day operations. All he had to do was keep checking the bank account.
Because his son is unable to do his duties, Joe has had to come back in and I don't think his heart is in it anymore. So Matt's contract was up this year and Edwards the year after. Joe found out the 2 drivers he had were just as good as those 2 so no sense falling further behind by running those guys. Better to get his stable up to par to replace Denny and Kyle when their time comes.
Same thing that Hendrick is doing. SHR is in big trouble in the next couple of years. They are way behind in driver development.
In my opinion all teams will be down to 2 cars each in 5 years.

JGR will have 19 and 20
HMS will have Byron and Elliot
RCR will have 2 grandsons
Penske will have Joey and Ryan
WBR will have a Ford/Penske driver
All other teams will have 1 car/driver

I hear you loud and clear as some of these folks would go broke running a lemonade stand where they incurred no expenses. Can you imagine how irate some of these guys would be if they followed stick and ball and went through a free agency period? They would need to be hospitalized!

Many will never be able to accept that a guy can: 1) Have money, 2) Be a leader, 3) Be authentic, 4) Believe in God, 5) Make hard decisions. I think that those with an issue with Coach need to bring him down to a level that is attainable to them. So, I have heard: 1) He isn't that rich, 2) Somebody else runs the company, 3) He lied to Matt, 4) His Biblical references are fake, and 5) He didn't make this decision as he referred to it as a "team" decision--the part that he said that it ultimately landed on him was omitted. Fact of the matter is that Coach doesn't care what the haters think, but he does care about the haters.

I can't see where Joe Gibbs has breached any tenets of Christianity in his actions with the Matt Kenseth situations. The funny thing about most Christian bashers is they wouldn't know which end if the Bible is up so how can they even have a clue anyway?

Oh I just dont really care for Ol Coach Gibbs. I am a Cowboys fan so naturally that carries over. I think he did Matt wrong AND Carl but it's a business. Sponsors probably didnt want to pay Matt his salary and Jones is the future, a damn good future to have at that. Just playing along, rattling cages I guess. I dont like Gibbs or JGR but thats my own personal opinion. He runs a hell of a team.

That is all well and good, the problem is the way it was done, I've heard it all, just business, too long in tooth, and in certain cases if done right, that is the thing to do. But you don't get rid of somebody by lying in their face and to the press and public and declare your undying love when you know he is done for your organization. There are for instance, levels of people, the lowest are in Jail, but a bit higher up are people who think anything goes and the only time they show remorse is if they get caught. Higher up on those levels are the majority of people, they follow the rules, stay between the moral lines as well as they can, and they understand why there ARE rules. Gibbs didn't honor his word, he sold Kenseth out for a few shekels without any warning, and then publicly after all that, he says how much he loves Matt and his beautiful family..really? That's my opinion. That's it. I'm done with ol Joe and Kenseth except I'm rooting for Kenseth to do well this year.

It was Carl's decision to leave
sorry I dont fall in line with that theory of thinking. I think he was forced out. I have nothing to go by on that, not an insider but something about it stunk. If Carl comes back ever, that would confirm my thinking. Just my thinking like I said, nothing to go off of.

Carl is a weird dude. Something sketchy about him IMO.

yah I dont think he was innocent in whatever happened either. The whole situation was just weird. Something happened I believe I just dont think we'll ever find out.

I think he definitely felt the pressure, Suarez had some of the richest men in the world in the top 5 that wanted Daniel in a cup ride. I'm sure Carl knew who they were with all of the sponsor commitments he was going to. I think the pressure he put on himself was part of it too. I think it all including the stress and playing the game blew him out.

When I first came to this forum several years ago, you were relentless in your personal attacks on a particular member here. I didn't understand the motivation then, and I still don't. I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same...:flushed:

Maybe we should all meet in Colorado at one of those dispensaries, hang out and shoot the breeze.

Joe Gibbs gets wound up tight at times with his evangelical pursuits. When they asked him to deliver the pre-race invocation, he thought they wanted a sermon. He confused the pre-race ceremonies with an old-time tent revival. I'm a Christian guy, but it seemed inappropriate to me.

My view of the Kenseth deal is that we don't know the nature of the private communications between Matt and Coach. What was said to the press about that has no bearing on the deal IMO. If Coach made certain promises directly to Matt about what would happen regarding contract renewal, and then didn't deliver, that is a sketchy situation. Personally, I doubt that happened. Matt has seemed... defensive... about his career situation since last year, when the 77 team was first announced. He has aggressively sought opportunities to deliver his speech about how he's not retiring, he's in great shape, he's driving better than ever, etc. He seemed to be lobbying somebody for a contract at age 46 and beyond, knowing his deal was expiring along with Carl's and Denny's deals. Just the impression I had (and I posted that here).

Here is Matt's biggest problem... Father Time is coming, and he's bringing the chrome horn...
