SILLY SEASON 2019

Geez, no wonder NASCAR is in the tank.

NASCAR should take the ARCA series and turn it into a product that former greats can race. Who would pay for some short track racing with Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Dale Jr., Dale Jarrett, Jeff Burton, Rusty Wallace, Ward Burton, Steve Park, Jerry Nadeau just to name a few? They use the 2000-2006 car. I know it's impossible but man with all these guys gone and these guys such as Hemric, Preece, Tifft, etc. it's depressing. We need some drama, we need something because these new drivers are so boring.
You're more likely to see Jeff Gordon taking over the reigns at HMS than racing in a Seniors Series.

Truth told, I think that first one has a good probability.

I don't know about a senior series, but it IS disappointing that Jeff's post-NASCAR racing career has to date meant exactly ONE race. Frankly, I'm not sure why he even bothered, although he DID get a nice wrist watch out of the deal......

I think Jeff is happy to count his cash and stay away from driving. He got out with his health and wealth. That's winning.

It was something he hadn't done and wanted to do. Apparently there isn't anything else on his list.

Maybe not, but HE'S the one that made a point of saying he would like to do some other racing. Now it's Johnson making the same speech about doing other racing. My gut feeling is that it's 50-50 at best that we will ever see Jimmie in another race car when his Cup career comes to an end. I think a lot of guys like the IDEA of doing it, but when push comes to shove, it just doesn't happen. I think sometimes they say it just so they don't have to be honest with themselves and use the R word.

Yea I agree completely. I really thought JG was going to race some more sports car racing with Wayne Taylor Racing but knew that probably wasn’t going to happen after he wasn’t used as much in the 24 hrs as his other teammates. It also would have been cool to see him do races with Jr Motorsports at tracks he hadnt raced at in Cup. I won’t be a selfish fan though it was nice to see him run the 88 in 2016 so I got my encore performance. He got out with his health and can now enjoy the fruits of his labor, that’s the dream for all of us isn’t it?

I hope JJ does other racing after he says adios to Cup, I’d be nervous for him in Indy Car and be stoked if he tried IMSA full time. I think of all the recent retirees that said they’d try other racing, he has the best chance he’s an actual freak in terms of health and don’t see his body breaking down. He’s Motorsports Tom Brady.

Sure is winning.....can’t fault a guy for that. That cash is still coming in I’m sure cause he’s JG

All this talk reminds me of how not so long ago when the truck series seemed to be the retirement series.

Just imagine how many people you could get at some of the stand alone truck races if you had a couple guys in the race such as Smoke, Edwards, Gordon, Biffle, Kenseth, Jr., Elliot Sadler, and I'm sure I'm missing a couple more that walked away while still fairly competitive.

Even when the Trucks were considered a senior circuit, it drew few top-tier drivers. In today's terms, it had guys like the Dillons, Menard, 'Dinger; maybe a McMurray or Kahne if you were lucky. Guys with maybe a couple of wins under their belt and were maybe considered a long-shot to win weekly. Skinner, Sprague, Hornaday, etc. mostly made their names after they were in Trucks, not before.

Daniel Suarez: "I never felt I had everything to win" at JGR
‘What I can say is we will be in the NASCAR Cup in a good team. We’re working on the last few details, but we’ll be fine. I hope to be in a position to win races next year,” he said.

“I hope I can share everything with the people who follow NASCAR soon. I hope it’s in December, not later than January.”

heh heh good one. I was wondering when he was going to speak out. His signature must be on the dotted line.
I think he has a smart team working for him and won't make the same mistake as per JGR.
He will want more say as to his team.

maybe so. I do hope Suarez does as well as Almirola did this year. SHR would be stronger and as Haas has hinted Kurt didn't live up to expectations, but he was given the time to change or go gracefully. Clint needs to step up his game. I think next year could possibly be his last if he doesn't perform or the year after.

What? Kurt had a win and was near the top in points, and Bowyer won twice.

as Haas has said recently, Kurt was hired to win a championship when hired in 2014. In five years of trying Kurt has never cracked the top 5 in season standings with a 10th and 14th in the mix. Boyer's 18th and 12th this year I don't think is too impressive in the two years he has been with SHR. You may believe it to be so. But the same next year and I think he will be lucky to get another year. There are too many coming up from the lower series who are good shoes.

I think Gene's problem was the amount of money that he dumped into running Kurt's car. And I still dont think that monster is bringing a ton of money to the dance.

Really disappointed in this BS. I though Daniel was above this.

Apples to oranges with the new package. You won't be able to tell. It will either be a free for all, or more of the same. If it is the latter, Daniel does what he did this year. If it is a free for all, he could be better, and I am sure that if he is, you will let me know how horrid the Preacher is. I am ready either way. Regardless, Daniel going out running his mouth after a golden opportunity is not a good look for a guy who had been absolute class until that point. Thanks again Farmer Carl for throwing all of this off schedule. I am sure that you and Todd Gordon will be very happy together.

Kurt had a very good career with SHR. The only issue is that Harvick won what 7 or 8 times.

I guess Gene expects to win every race, but Haas did taper off in the last couple of races last year though. Kurt was extremely consistent, but did not win enough in the long run. Saurez will do well, but honestly I expect the same result in consistency for Saurez.

Apparently JGR didn’t feel they had everything they needed to win with him behind the wheel. They rectified that right quick as they say

Plus you can get them for pennies on the dollar compared to the old guys.

Truex Junior needed a new room at the Toyota Mansion...

Suarez was most vulnerable -- Joe Gibbs as a good owner and competitor has probably been plotting ever since Adam Stevens got his feelings hurt, and Truex went on to beat KyBu in the finals -- so why not put the squeeze on FRR and buyout the talent.

Visser and his organization had an amazing run while working with Gibbs, but my entertainment is their business -- and those business parties have to do what is in their interest.

Suarez could've taken the higher road in his remarks, it's just a better look...

Agree, I have really tried to give Suarez the benefit of the doubt the last few years, but the negatives keep surfacing. It is one thing to speak your mind, but this is coming across as a spoiled kid not getting his way...AKA Danica's syndrome.

Welcome, new guy. Is your avatar the Long Beach fountain?

I think we will see if what Suarez is saying is true IF he goes to SHR. If he is bad there he is bad everywhere. I will be surprised if SHR gives him a multi year deal. Almirola was a no brainer when he moved from Petty. Some of the changes Suarez is complaining about with the changing crew members might have come after Subway bailed after Carl left and they used Suarez eating pizza as an excuse. Suarez could be hard to work with. Who knows. Stay tuned to the next episode of as the car turns. I bet we will find out about the two of them this week, they both sound like they have deals made.

The guy lost his job in pretty terrible fashion, he's got every right to blow the whistle on JGR. He ain't blowing it hard enough if you ask me. This is child's play compared to how the candy man would have reacted in this situation.
Kinda ironic that ol Denny has lost his crew chief of many years already. ;)

Almirola was a no brainer because he brought sponsorship. You could probably go find Jeff Purvis and he would get top 10’s in SHR cars

Tony Stewart RECOMMENDED Aric.

Aric and Tony have been close for a long time, Tony always knew Aric just needed a better car to show just how good he is. The sponsor is a bonus IMHO, Aric may have sponsorship, but he's no pay driver. He's earning his keep.

I read where Tony said he would have hired Aric even without sponsorship. SHR is premium equipment so to whom much is given much is expected.

Look at all the drivers Tony himself has endorsed. Newman, Harvick, Bowyer, and now Aric. All have definitely earned their keep

I guess Danica was the one fail
