Silly Season 2020

KDB learned his lesson on being a standalone owner in the Xfinity series... his brother won but he damn sure didn't.

The amount of money required to be a successful Cup owner is likely beyond what even Kyle would be comfortable spending. There is also usually a wife who is not thrilled at the prospect of their husband risking their entire fortune chasing a dream, when they can drive for somebody else and collect a paycheck. Read Darrell Waltrip's book if you want an insight into what it's like to start your own team as a driver.

That's why I'd give much respect to Kyle Busch if he made the attempt. Some people need to take up new challenges and keep pushing frontiers.

But it reminds me of the old saying -- If you want to make a small fortune in racing...

Is Kyle running more late model events besides the All-American 400?

But he won't be sticking around as a winning driver, rather as a steady top 10 driver.
Of course that is good for the sponsor(s) and Ganassi if the price is right.
I don't think Larson has that to offer.

It seems there is a lot of work yet to do at Stewart-Haas Racing. Adam Stern says Clint Bowyer's contract expires this fall, and so does Smithfield. To me, that means Aric Almirola is expiring too, as sponsor deals and driver deals are usually negotiated together for similar time periods. (But I'm *not* saying Aric would be forced out if Smithfield walks. I think Aric's performance in the #10 has made a very strong case for him even if Smithfield leaves the team.)

When Suarez was announced in the #41, the "M word" was conspicuously absent in the press releases ("M word" = multiyear). And Daniel has confirmed it. The quote below is from Jayski, attributed to Ford Performance...
#41- Daniel Suarez had a media availability Friday at Michigan International Speedway and was asked about the status of his contract at Stewart-Haas Racing:

WHAT IS YOUR CONTRACT SITUATION?

Suarez: “We are working on things. I feel very confident in where we are. We have options on both sides which is good. I have an option, they have an option, and I feel that is the best way to do things, especially when you have a lot of unknowns at the beginning of the year. We know where we are at and what we can do. We haven’t won races, that was my goal, but nobody has on the team. It isn’t like I am the only one not winning races like it was the last three years. It is a way different situation. I feel like when we move forward we move forward together. I don’t feel like I am the guy that is struggling of the group. I feel like we are going to be in good shape. I feel like I am in a good home with Stewart-Haas Racing and Ford Performance and everyone in this group. I am not really worried. I feel confident about it. But I will tell you that I felt confident about it as well last year and you saw what happened. You never know in this sport. I don’t like talking about it until it is 110% secure. The sport is at a point where anything can happen. What I can control is this weekend. I have to do my thing this weekend and try to win races. I feel like the rest will take care of itself.”

As for Harvick, he said recently (prompted by rumors when DW's retirement became a thing) that he has contracts in place through 2021 and no plans to stop driving before then. So two more years after this year, at ages 44 and 45. If he goes that far, I doubt he will go further. Modern Nascar Cup Series racing is not a welcoming environment for a 46-year old rich guy with other non-driving ambitions. That's just my opinion and there are exceptions to every rule.

Not to mention... Haas F1 is in need of an upgrade in the ****pit, IMO. A lot of work to do at SHR and Haas F1.

I think Aric is the safest of the 3 with expiring contracts. He’s the perfect #2 or 3 driver. Super consistent, takes care of the car, and good enough to get a token win or two a year. He’s also likely cheaper. Suarez and Bowyer are probably competing for the 3rd seat and Custer will take over for whomever doesn’t perform

Tyler Reddick's stock price is zooming up like Amazon or something. One year ago, I never would have guessed he would progress so fast as a hot shot cup prospect. (And I could also say the same about Cole Custer.)

Like Nicky Hayden would always say... "That's why they run the races!"

Anyone know who the RCR alliances are... Germain #13 and Petty #43 and who else?

Not a lot of room for Reddick currently.

I think he by default has to be in NXS again. I'd say if Daniel Hemric doesn't have the 8 in the top 20 in points by next summer then this might be legitimate discussion. Hemric has this season to get adjusted, and I'd say next year is a make or break where they have to be more competitive.

Doesn't Reddick still have a deal with Ganassi?

Did I mix up the drivers? Had DC as a sponsor and they went away.

Reddick ran for Ganassi in 2017 but took his/his families money to JRM and now RCR where there's more space to move up (according to him). JHN & Ross were part of Ganassi last year with Ross slated to drive the DC car in 2019. Ross is still part of CGR apparently.

Hemric isn't going to get dumped after a year. I think RCR brings back the number 31 for a third car.

Not after a year but in racing now days with a lot of the deals only being one or 2 years who knows. Reddick has been more impressive than Hemric in the Xfinity ride. Does RCR have enough cash to run 3 teams competitively in the playoffs?

Harvick retires before his contract expires is my bet.

That roster is going to look very different in 2021. Almirola is a reliable hand and as long as he's maintained good relations with Smithfield he might be the only one on the team still left in two years.

Richard Childress is a master at getting and keeping sponsorship. Reddick stays hot, he will be in cup next year for at the very least select races would be my guess. Hemric is right in there points wise with Austin and Ty, and Hemric is a freakin rookie. Sheesh.

Reddick is making a better case for a Cup ride than Hemric ever did in Xfinity. I think they can cobble up the sponsorship to run a third car.

RCR is running one car now with just Reddick, it wasn't that long ago RCR had three downsized to two cars. Now with the 21 being part-time, Reddick can have everything focused on him.

He's definately better than Hemric looked in two years, no matter how its spun. I'm a big Hemric fan, too. Yet he still has not won a big race in the three primary series. Reddick is tearing **** up right now. To think this is the same guy who was tearing up BKR **** left and right in the truck series.

definitely a case for you can teach a fast driver how not to wreck but you can't take a slow one and make them fast about Reddick in the trucks. I thought he was a bust in a Kez truck a real dart without feathers. He wrecked a lot for Junior also, but he kept getting better and kept his speed. The racing chips have been falling his way a lot also this year TBH.

I like Hemric but Reddick is outperforming him at every level.

that's true, it's all roses right now for Reddick, but as we all know, that can or can not transfer to cup and that is the interesting part that nobody knows unless it is attempted. The cars are completely different as is the competition, scrutiny, coverage, on and on blah blah blah.

Plus I'd say the competition for Reddick, Bell, Custer has been much easier in 2019 than 2018 with the 16, 21, 42, 60 NXS teams getting axed.

I think it would be a different story if Ross would have been able to drive the 42, but the cuppers this year laying off of the series pushed the Xfinity regulars to the front. Good side is that the big three have a life, other side is moving to cup is a different world.

RCR ran three Cup cars and five Xfinity cars just two years ago, so I think it would surely be possible for them to run three full-time cars again.
Hope they won't shut down the Xfinity team if Reddick moves up.

I believe Childress ran three cars full time in 17 and I don't know how he got away with the rest. :idunno: Without car numbers in the stats 5 or even 6 or more in certain races

Hemric was in the #21 full-time, Jones was in the #33 full-time and Gaughan was in the #62 full-time.
Ty drove the #3 in most races since he was allowed to drive every race except for Homestead back in 2017. Scott drove that car at both Iowa races and Lagasse ran the remaining four races Ty wasn't in.
Austin was in the #2 for 17 races, Menard and Kennedy (his last season) split the remaining races in that car.

I didn't even have to look that up. Should I be worried?
