Silly Season 2020

Part time in Cup and NXS? Huh? So what team is gonna field an SHR car since they can't do a 5th? Is there not enough funding for another Xfinity title run?

I'm gonna get heat but Almirola needs to show more speed.

I agree about Almirola but it's irrelevant because of the funding that Smithfield brings and the same goes for the other two.

The Preacher still has five drivers and just four seats. He has kicked the can down the road by one year. Somebody's gonna get screwed, but it'll happen one year later. Just my $0.02.
And how can they make a fair comparison giving Bell the left overs car to drive. He will probably be deadly running down in Xfinity next year.

GMS has a garbage Xfinity program tbh. When you’re down on straightaway speed like they are at every track not much you can do. That said, JHN needs to not junk it every week. But he won a race last season, he’s not a scrub. Daniel Hemric is in cup with 0 Xfinity or truck wins lol

Agreed. With as good as GMS has been in the Trucks, I assumed that success would translate to Xfinity. I figured they would fill the void left by Turner as the competitive non-Cup team in Xfinity. Unfortunately that hasn't happened.

Hemric finished 2nd and 3rd in the standings, JHN is 13th? 5 crashes so far, one was Daytona, the rest weren't. JHN's only win came from driving a Ganassi car. We all know what Chastain did in one of those.

Exactly, although he is 11th..

GMS is so behind in the development game. Hell, they are still running bodies from last year. They are still running '18 bodies, so I could only imagine the last update of the chassis. Not to mention their engines are ****. I still remember Iowa 2 very well, Briscoe would just flat out pull away from John Hunter in the straight-aways.

If the cars are as bad as I think they are, then at this point he's overacheving than anything else. The first half of the season, he was one of the better drivers in the field. Now, he's been struggling. A couple of top 5s', but with GMS hunting for sponsors. It was only a matter of time with the Raiders stadium primary sponsor in Alligent and ISM Speedway, I could imagine Gallagher is feeling a bit of a squeeze.

John Hunter's sponsor(s) are spotty and a bunch of one-off are not going to help GMS. It's a shame because this is like the third time John Hunter's plans might get yanked again trying to progress through the ranks.

He's too good of a driver to be a truck lifer IMO. Dude is only 21 years old, too. I feel as if he's getting what he can out of the equipment at this point. This leads to Nemo overdriving as well and making mistakes, he's still a bit error prone at times.

Still, I think he's done pretty good considering the shape of the team.

You need fast cars to win, I’m not sure what that means lol. The guy won a race before he’s even a rookie, and Hemric couldn’t win in 2 years in RCR equipment. Meanwhile Reddick has 5 wins in the same cars.

John Hunter will end up somewhere

I am honestly blown away as I was under the impression that Menard would stay in that car for at least a couple more years until Austin cindric was ready. The other thing I'm curious about is what do we expect from the Menards sponsorship? Between the 12 and the 21 they sponsor a full year are we expecting them to stay the same? I hope so obviously...and I love having Matt D back in the Ford camp in a competitive car! I expect great things!

I think everyone knows Menard's is big on motorsports, participating in multiple series at all levels. I'd be very surprised if they left the Cup series entirely.

Matt D to the 21

Paul Menard’s lasting legacy

Going to miss Paul tho. Not the best driver nor the worst, but one of those guys that could give it a run every now and then
There were a few tracks where Paul was a solid fantasy pick. Indy was one of them. If nothing else, he'd bring the car back in one piece more often than some.

But yeah, I'm going to miss his smiling face. Paul Menard to the #5 car.

I notice every release explicitly says Paul is retiring from Cup.

Random speculation: He may well have a contract, just not in Cup. Will he be Penske's next Sam Hornish, the vet they bring in for Xfinity road course races? Rumors have Helio Castroneves interested in returning to IndyCar; could Paul be in line for his Acura seat in IMSA?

100% tin foil material, so far...

Stupid. You missed the point, as usual. Figure it out...
Its not hard to figure out.

Jones deal was already in motion, it came down to sponsorship and the sponsors approved of him. The deal was done and dusted for him to stay in the Toyota stable.

Not to mention price of the driver, which you've already brought up.

@Ventisca 's position is based on the assumption Jones was available in the first place. It's just possible that occasionally JGR doesn't toss a driver under the bus.

Your leap that I believed Matt "was an idiot for taking this opportunity" was incorrect.

"In motion" is not the same as finalized. It is too broad to be meaningful. It could easily refer to time of signing the previous contract with options, provisions...
