As far as format, would like to see something similar to the Slinger Nationals. Not too keen on limiting to only 12 cars...would rather see 20 for the feature.

As far as equipment...please stay away from a single proprietary make. Let the fans have something to get exited over...love fisticuffs in the grandstand over supposed manufacturers. People that back a domestic manufacturer that did not need to steal money from tax payers against foreigners and those that stole from private individuals so a politician could buy votes. Hint...hint....

Big springs, no adjustable shocks...wide fives (no need for anything else since there will not be pit stops) and using a ASA style perimeter chassis. That would be a start. Naturally aspirated engine, push rod, stock block, (plenty around and some still being cast), 347 max cubes...no dry sumps, and two barrel carb...with 9:1 max compression.

No twisted sister bodies....5" min ground clearance and a weight break for steel bodies.

How about Todd Bodine ? If they could squeeze him into one...
If they can jam Paul Tracy in, they can grease a window frame for Todd. Personally I think he's been out of the truck for too long, but I didn't see Tracy coming either.

Penske is closing his Acura teams in IMSA. That frees up Juan Pablo Montoya, Helio Castroneves, Ricky Taylor, and Dane Cameron. I don't see Taylor or Cameron being interested; they shouldn't have trouble getting sports car seats. JPM could go either way; he may want something more full-time.

I see Helio as a possibility, esp. with his buddy TK already on board.

I wonder what NASCAR’s position will be if one or more of their current competitors shows up in a televised race run by the new group?
I think the owners would be more of an obstacle. NASCAR has had no objections to drivers doing the Indy-Charlotte double.

I'm more interested in the suspension system he decides to use.

Big springs and conventional steering linkage or coil-over shocks and rack and pinion? If he goes the modern route, maybe he'll enlist Gary Nelson ... he and Ivan Baldwin built a slew of cars in that configuration.
Now there's a name I haven't heard in years- Ivan Baldwin. He used to race whatever class of cars( I was a kid- i don't remember what they were called)ran on Friday nights at the old speedway 605 in irwindale. My parents raced Saturday nights in "claimed stocks".

“Ivan, along with Carrera shock maker Dick Anderson, pioneered the coil-over suspension design and, with Gary Nelson’s vital role in development, produced what would become the standard for late model cars of the future.”

Raced them when they came to the Northwest for a week-long series of races - 5 in 7 days. They were really good everywhere.

In 1996, 50 year old Ivan Baldwin was killed in an accident near his home in NC.

Very nice read, thank you for posting that.

As a follow up to the article mentioning So. Ca. race tracks- anyone on here that used to go to the tracks I went to as a kid- Speedway 605, Saugas, Ascot, there was even a small dirt track in Bell Gardens I could ride my mini bike on on Saturday before races when I was around 5. And of course Riverside and later Ontario.

Strangely enough, I think that back end of the car would look crazy good with a simple spoiler on there

Evernham said big HP. I'm guessing he might snatch some of Smoke's 410 motors. Easy HP out of those if the price is right from the Ford house.

Love the look on the faces of the bystanders as a real race car drives by...these guys were superstars....

dude quit trolling the thread with your agenda please. This thread is about a new racing series. Try the throwback Thursday thread.
But your agenda is ok? Just showing a link to the origins of the sport so it does not get lost as to where it came from. If that link is broken, it is not the same sport anymore.

Mine and other's agenda is to stay on topic. Your's doesn't have anything remotely close to a new racing series. Move it to throwback Thursday, it's all about racing's origins.

I'll do what I want and you are more than welcome to your opinion. I will let you have that...go with it. Others have expressed their opinions as to what the venue should entail that are not so dissimilar to mine. Big springs and such are a tie to the past, IMSA derivatives are not...they come from a different league all together.

It's a superstar racing experience it's not supposed to be tied to your conception of what a racecar is it's a whole new thing.
