2021 Silly Season

corporate speak ( in other words, I am not sticking my neck out and saying anything about anything)

How the heck did he get the seat? AquaFresh?
from a guy on another forum that was very reliable:

"I wasn't working there, so this is all based on conversations with folks who were, but the team was never really intending on running Buckshot full time. The original idea was Adam in the 45 full time, which was the 44 team from 2000, then a new car with new crew for Kyle and Buckshot to share in 2001. GP never really wanted Buckshot in their car at all, but the folks at PE really wanted to give him a shot, and when Adam died, that shot became full time, which GP was even less ok with. So Buckshot ended up in a new car, for a struggling team, with a new manufacturer that was up and down all year, and a sponsor that didn't want him in the first place. So he had no chance."

I misremembered the PE part my bad. Still a neat story imo

SHR is getting Larson I think. Larson is a flat better driver in Cup than Jones.

tough call with larson, i imagine it will come down to sponsorship. i realize gene haas can sponsor his car but SHR has a lot of other major sponsors (Busch, Mobil, Smithfield Etc) that may not want to be associated with a team that hired someone believed to be a racist. do i agree larson is better than jones 100% and tony is always a wild card so we will see

Those companies are only worried about the profit margin and return on investment.
They are not even American companies.

Ford is International with plants all over the world.
Okay, then I'm not sure what your point is regarding Busch, Mobil, and Smithfield not being 'American' and what that has to do with approving of Larson. The sponsorship money they spend doesn't come to SHR in Euros.

Interesting. I had heard something similar but it was Kyle in the 44 full time and Buckshot in the 46 part time for a couple years, and then Kyle and Buckshot would switch rides so that Kyle could put more focus on running the business while running select races. (Coca-Cola was thrown around as being a primary sponsor for one of their cars). PE was supposed to be Kyle's team once he completely retired from driving.

When I know what I am talking about I will let you Know. :) What I think I was trying to say is these companies don't just live and breath America. They have owners all around the world so they don't just cater to what got someones shorts to tight in the USA.
What happened to Larson IMO was a media driven fiasco that should never have happened. It was the media that caused all the trouble and if they had ignored it we probably would never have heard about it. I don't remember any person filing a complaint against Larson.
I will say this, if Nascar had any balls and wants to avoid this kind of BS they should never give passes to the media and drivers should be able to have their privacy.

For the entire history of NASCAR, they have been trying to get the media to pay MORE attention to the sport, and now you want them to be shut out and ignore the sport? Here's a BETTER idea. How about everyone in the sport from the CEO down to the guy that fixes garage door ropes at Talladega just behave like they have more common sense than the average house plant.........

There is lots of speculation that Clint Bowyer will retire from driving and move into the broadcast booth after this year. But Clint now goes public with his desire to race on.

He says, "Stewart-Haas is a wonderful organization. I want to be there... I believe all the pieces of the puzzle are there." Sorry Clint, it's just my opinion but I believe the 14 team is missing one *crucial* piece of the puzzle.

Clint, you’re really good as a commentator. Better than Gordon. I think your ride is about to be given to Kyle Larson and that’s not a bad thing.

Whether it’s Larson or someone else a change does seem to be needed performance wise the 14 has been the worst of the team and they have already tried swapping CC at some point the blame has to fall on Clint plus he tears up a lot of race cars I know Stewart isn’t a fan of that based on his comments about plate tracks

You will never satisfy the media, if they can't find dirt they will make it up.
Where did you think Burton learned to hype a snail crossing the road?

True, but they usually handle marketing regionally, and accounting metrics are always broken down that way. Their divisions in Europe may not care who they sponsor in America, but I guarantee the people responsible for US sales care. They're the ones with the decision making authority on who they sponsor, and they're the ones with their heads on the block if US sales fall due to negative publicity.

We're still talking about Larson racing next season when Chase Briscoe has been tearing it up?

Westbrook didn't say no, but he's right its up to Edsiel at the end of the day. No denying Larson's talent, but I doubt the turn-around will be quick. Sponsors still have to want the man before he can drive.

That's blaming the messenger; politicians try that sh!t all the time to distract people from the real issue. At least Larson himself isn't trotting out that excuse.

If Larson hadn't dropped the bomb, there would have been nothing for the media to report. If you do something wrong, nobody else is to blame when you get caught.

No, you're not going to satisfy them, but it's a fact of life that if you are a major sports "league' you NEED them to talk about you and promote you. Over the years the media has for the most part been only too willing to carry NASCAR's water for them, some times to the point of absurdity, but there are certain things that are going to be like throwing red meat to a wolf. If you are part of the NASCAR world, part of YOUR job is not to be a source of the red meat. Brian France didn't heed that, neither did Kyle Larson, and Bubba has been skating on the very edge of it lately. If they're going to talk about you, make sure it's about what happened ON the track, not off.

an NFL reporter tweeted out that Jones was out of the 20, Bell in for 2021, but it was quickly deleted.

now any other year i'd be skeptical of it coming from a NFL reporter but we did have the fake dog twitter account break Poole running the full cup season so...

I’m waiting for Tom Brady to break the news on his Twitter. I’m not taking anyone else’s reports seriously...

I’m with you tho, honestly this will be the most expected announcement in quite a minute. Everyone’s probably got their horses all ready to run, just to be the ‘first’ to officially say it on the day it’s made official...

The guy SHR should be looking at isn't Kyle Larson, but rather a guy who is currently outperforming his equipment: Bubba Wallace. He could contend for wins in that #14. I think his talent level is right up there with Larson. SHR could attract some nice sponsors for that team as well.

Briscoe is getting that ride. He's winning in Xfinity and is showing to be cup ready. SHR needs that second star. Briscoe is it.

Nah Larson over Bubba any day of the week sorry.

Is he really? He's 3rd of the 4 guys running RCR stuff

Just saw jones out of the 20. And he wasn't even called family. But let's be honest he's been the lowest performing driving at the team and someone needed to go

you have a source from where you are seeing it?

I mean we are all expecting it, but still for some reason I’m anxious about the moment it’s actually official..

I feel bad for Erik. He’s a much better driver than what this season is showing and EVERYONE knows it! This kid has wheeled some amazing races and he didn’t forget how to do it either. Just having a crummy season at the worst time.

I really feel if they could put some more effort into what crew chief Would fit best with him it would be worth it. But obviously they’re just trying to finish this out and move forward.

I kinda feel like in a situation like this, with someone like Bell waiting in the wings... a person In Eriks position kinda gets put on the back burner.

I’m excited about the 20s future, but let’s all be real. More ‘could’ have likely been done to help Erik and his current team get better results for this season and a kid with his talent deserves that.

Regan Smith and Mikey on Race Hub acting as if this news was a complete surprise to them. I'm thankful for a DVR so I can scan through most of this show. It gets harder to watch all the time.

I feel bad for Jones. Just getting kicked to the curb for Toyota's darling boy Bell in a total panic move. I would have been curious to see this all unfold without Leavine closing up. Jones is a multi time winner (won a major) and brings his own sponsorship, he's not some scrub that would have made this a no brainer decision in a normal landscape.

Toyota is doing it to themselves. No one can afford an alliance or at least not for long. Yet they keep dumping tons of money into driver development. It wasn't like they didn't have a substantial investment in Jones either

I'm not sure Briscoe's xFinity success translates to Cup. Larson & Bubba are safer bets imo.
