2021 Silly Season

To me with Austin on the surface he those stats sound impressive but lets take an honest look at it. He won a crash filled 500 while being involved in a last lap crash with the leader, he won the 600 on fuel strategy, and he won Texas on pit strategy. Those account for 3 of his 4 playoff appearances. To me he's just never gone up there and taken or earned a win by being one of the best cars all race.
These sound like excuses as to why he won. The fact of the matter to me and all I need to look at is he won. Case closed. The rest is just semantics

Not looking good

That's a shame. They put a lot into that team and make an honest effort to run competitively. That's why I don't like the charter system. You have one team that can be missing races or losing money running competitively, while you have another that consistently finishes in the 30's with no real competitive effort making money.

Sad but Ryan has a TON of local support. It would not surprise me to see EastWest Marina or Falmouth Redimix jump in as sponsors at least for a few races if he's running well. Both supported him in Xfinity, iirc. And it sounds like they're at least going to plan on running a full season even if it's not likely (and not skip a race early in the season and totally screw themselves if it looks like they can get into the Playoffs).

I think the pressure will be good for Ryan.

Last year was AD's most impressive season, originally he was going to get shown up by Reddick in 20', but the opposite ended up happening. Yeah he won Texas on strategy (via restart package, not his fault), but really his 2nd place drive at Darlington when he was closing the gap on leader Harvick impressed me the most. He had some unlucky mechanical in the playoff unfortunately, or he would have done even better. He rose to the occasion in my book.

Both Stenhouse and Preece were involved in a lot of wrecks last season. Many to which were not their own doing, it sucks that they could not get thst charter for Preece in the 37. I hope they are able to secure funding to finish the sesson.

However, I would have to worn then both to keep the cars clean and finish races.

I don't think they have the cars to drive, they have to take many chances to finish higher which means a lot of wrecks.

That's why I couldn't believe JTG took Ricky to start with. They need guys that will take care of the equipment so they can work on improvement, not just building cars to get them on the track.

IMO with racing you make a lot of your own luck. Maybe it wasn't your fault it happened but more than likely you shouldn't have been in the position for that to happen in the first place.

Pretty evident that they need someone that brings a check, because without the pay to drive driver they wouldn’t be on the track

To be honest, both Preece and Stenhouse got caught up in some ridiculous wrecks last season. The majority were not even their fault, Stenhouse had eight DNFs and seven were not his fault. Preece had eight DNFs as well and I don't think any of them were his fault.

Not to mention, Stenhouse has sponsorship with NOS, Little Hugs, etc. JTG did take a step back though, but I'm hoping they rebound and hopefully Preece can get thise races filled.

I have a feeling they are going down to one car in the 47 come 2021, but I hope I'm wrong. At the same time, I think both drivers are on short leashes when it comes to the wrecking.

The last couple of years Hamlin has driven as well as ever, and at this point I’m actually hoping he wins a title eventually - hard to believe he’s 40 now.

Undisputable fact- Hamlin has ran amazing the past couple years.

As for that part in red....I'm hoping the opposite happens. Still can't stand the guy. But if it comes down to either him or KyBu winning the next 5 championships... give 'em all to Hamlin

Anyone else find it strange that the manufacturer that spends the most on driver development has one of the oldest driver lineups? With the mothership now on its third attempt to find a high profile successful driver out of the development program.

I was one of those idiots who thought he should have been out of the car after 2018. Definitely not my best moment
A lot of us were, he looked lost after 2018, but after Gabhart came along it seems like he found another step (Please, don't start). I think I remember saying that Bell was going to replace him in the 11.

Eating crow has been on the menu the last seven years now for myself. Now, as @wi_racefan said Toyota has a situation of a backlog. However, I feel this is where 23XI could come into play for Toyota.

Yeah I know. It's not bad, goes well with a slice of humble pie for desert I have found.

I find it strange that the manufacturer with the fewest Cup seats (and an established line-up of championship caliber drivers already in them) spends as much on development as they do. They kicked DiBenedetto to the curb. The most successful replacements Gibbs has hired in the last decade were veterans from Roush and Furniture Row.

KB also came from HMS. Eventually one of these development guys will be a superstar

I don't think Bell with his win or crash mentality will be that driver for at least a few years.

I'm hoping he gets dropped prematurely from the preachers bunch and moves on to greener pastures.
