He doesn't qualify based on arbitrary rules that they change every year based on who or how many people they want in the race. It's an exhibition race no one is losing anything by allowing him to run it.
This logic just makes no sense to me any fool can run a points paying race and potentially cost someone a championship, but you wont let a hall of Famer run an exhibition race?
I'm willing to bet more fans will be "hey Tony's running that race I'm going to watch that and see how he stacks up". No one is going to say "well I was going to watch that race, but not anymore since they allowed tony in"
