“Rebirth of stock”

I’m not sure what any of the other Gen 7 cars had, but the car that Reddick tested at Darlington did not have a rear view mirror, but rather a rear view camera on the center console stack.

Maybe this means that the greenhouse designs are mirroring their stock counterparts and sight out of the rear glass, with the big ass spoilers, is minimal - justifying a rear camera?

I noticed that as well. I'm wondering if the rear facing camera (which is mounted on the rear of the roof facing the deck lid) will provide drivers with better situational awareness.

What are the odds that we'll see them race these cars in The All Star race this year?

Looks and sounds like a hell of a handful for sure.

A number of GT cars have those rear view cameras. Corvette has had once since at least 2014. I can think of one situation on pit road this year where it would’ve helped. :)

If the NASCAR sanctioned cameras are just as reliable as the NASCAR sanctioned air guns, the spotters will have their work cut out for them.

I'm really shocked and also bummed out that no one is bishing about the rear camera. I expected a good death bedder rant.

The exhaust notes sound different, but by all accounts the car’s current neutral body looks identical to the current cars.

I really hope the manufactures change that.

Also, do we think Toyota will stick with the Camry or will they bring in the GR86 or Supra?

Well they already got the Supra in the Xfinity Series. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought the GR86 into the CUP Series.

Subaru BRZ to NASCAR confirmed

Camry...think that Toyota is still committed to the sedans....and I don't think you will see the GR stuff anywhere unless Toyota dissolves the TRD branding and replaces it with that. You don't see it with the Supra in Xfinity right now. Laukes said that the two could co-exist before he retired.

I don't see Toyota going to a Cup model which is the lesser to the Xfinity model.

How about they just put some balls on that TRD Camry and get some real HP out of it? Sweet look, way underpowered

Honestly I think the Xfinity series needs a serious car design overhaul. While the Camaro and Mustang already look like a bad joke compared to the street counterpart, the Xfinity Supra is in another strata of awful looking.

I can see that. I was hoping they’d bring an actual performance model in comparison to the Camaro and Mustang. Especially with NASCAR’s “return of stock” promotion of the Gen 7 car. I think we are in for a surprise outside of what the car looks like.

Both Chevy and Ford run the same models in Xfinity and Cup. Maybe there is some pressure from NASCAR for Toyota to do the same? I can’t see it though. While the Supra would be a “comparable” car to the Camaro and Mustang that is already in NASCAR, the design would have to be radicle. That’s why I brought up the GR86.

Why not run the Lexus RC F? Let Cup be the higher line (Lexus) and Xfinity be the Supra (still Toyota badge)

Or just rebrand a Toyota version of the RC F.... Wait, I'm an idiot. Isn't that what they're already doing by bringing back the GR86?

Also noticing the vents with raised louvres are on the hoods of each make there in the photo. I guess that made it to the final version. I'm assuming that's for aero to direct airflow over the cars and maybe help with being able to follow each other? I'm overthinking and obviously way late to the party as it was likely discussed 30 pages ago.

Yeah, the TRD Camry is the performance model....and really, I don't think that Toyota has ever aspired to get into the Camaro v. Mustang (Chevy v. Ford) rivalry. That's not their place, and I think they know it. So, I believe that they come at the sport in their own way, and are not held to the same type of thinking as the domestics. My two cents...

I think that it is very important to Toyota to keep NASCAR involvement as Toyota. The following Lexus has is very different from that of Toyota, and Toyota is about NASCAR. Acceptance has always been very important to Toyota, and I don't think that they are at all interested in messing with that with an "upscale" product in a middle class sport. I also feel that Lexus enthusiasts would have 0 interest in NASCAR.

No love for the Toyota Yaris?

Supra goes to CUP and the GR86 to Xfinity?

The Supra Cup and 86 Xfinity is a brilliant point really. However, even Mr. Toyoda has pointed out reservation about rebadged products. He mentions this in the GR Yaris commentary. From the spreadsheet perspective, the Supra and the 86 had to be collaborative efforts to meet reasonable price points. Just not sure if this translates to NASCAR, but again, really interesting point.

I wonder what model Mercedes will be bringing. Do they have a car that fits the same bill as the Camaro or Mustang?

Original article is 404’d but around last year’s 500 David Wilson said they did some design exercises with the Supra but are sticking with the Camry. Can’t find another source, unfortunately.
“We’re sticking with the Camry that is our bread and butter for Toyota,” explained David Wilson, President and General Manager of Toyota Racing Development. “We of course, build the Camrys in Georgetown, Kentucky, number one selling car for 18-consecutive years. It served us well and we’re actively working on the new Camry body for the Next Gen Car.”

Although TRD has made the decision not to move the Supra up to the NASCAR Cup Series, they did entertain the idea. After several design exercises, the OEM moved forward with the Camry. The model remains the longest active model used in the NASCAR Cup Series, having debuted in 2007.

“We took a look at that before we launched the Gen-five Supra and we even did some design exercises. I can tell you those renderings will probably never see the light of day. But we ultimately decided that Camry was the right model to continue moving forward with. We don’t build Supra in the US."

If these cars are legit stock like builds, we need the Dodge Charger in here ASAP. Three true American muscle cars running NASCAR would be awesome. Hell bring back the Trans Am too :punkrocke
I hope you guys that want 100% stock sheet metal get what you think you want. About half-way thru the season, when the same manufacturer has won 90% of the races you will be changing your tune. Apparently you don't remember when Jack Roush and others were screaming about how XXXXXX has an advantage.

Nah just in the designs, can still be performance metals and stuff like that. Hell was it 3 years ago Gibbs won half the races and put 3 in the title lol?
