Silly Season 2023

This is a perfect example of why I rarely post anymore. I mean, if you're going to post quotes from what people say to the media, there's really no way I can counter it, or expand on it, or give any context to it, etc, without posting what I know, which almost exclusively comes off the record. And for what? To prove I know things here? I don't care about that.

And I'm not even just referring to this particular quote, but all things in general (FTR Dave Wilson really did want Kyle to stay. They have forged a very close relationship). People are extremely calculated when they talk to the media (well, the smart ones at least). There is always a bigger picture at play. So in that sense, I would just tell you to continue believing whatever it is you want to believe. There's really no harm in that. It's the desired outcome.
This is the biggest thing that drives me crazy on this forum, is that people here don't understand that this is all politics. People read a quote and think that figure is sharing with the public exactly what is really happening behind closed doors. It's not like that. There's the reality of what's taking place, and then there's the PR statement. It is beyond naive to think the PR soundbites are gospel.

That is one of the many reasons I think we are being played. Who has a charter floating around and needs a Kyle Busch. It isn't Childress unless somebody hits the road. What in the hell makes sense to pay money for a driver and then hand cuff him and the team with out of the box money cause no charter. A whole lot of groundwork should have been laid before all of this and not a peep from a whole industry of blabbermouths.
Oh my goodness...

Well, let us in on what you think the plan is. I've been saying all along that on the surface this didn't make make a lot of sense, so either there are a LOT of cards we haven't been shown yet, or this was just two desperate guys combining forces and praying it all works out somehow. My guess is that it will be a little bit of both. I will also say that for all the people that thought Kyle's antics were so cute and fun, well, here is the downside to that. You can get away with antagonizing NASCAR or other drivers or crews or maybe half the fanbase, but when owners and sponsors finally get sick of you, you find yourself painted into a corner. If David Wilson couldn't save the Kyle Busch-JGR marriage, things must have really hit rock bottom.
I am not 100% sure he is going over to Childress at this point until I hear it from Kyle tomorrow what is up. Kaulig for instance really needs a driver for their cup effort they are trying to build, they have the car and the charter. Haley isn't cutting it.
Childress has to jump thru way more hoops.

So even though all of the top journalists, that have the scoop on every move in the sport, have said he is going to RCR, you still think they are not accurate why exactly?

I think it would be great for Kyle to come back in a Chevy, and win at least 1 Championship and multiple races...

I'll take this as confirmation that I was right and RCR is on the hook for Tyler's 2023 contract option unless somebody CHOOSES to BUY RCR out of it.
On the hook? They had no plans for him to leave. He's got sponsor contracts already signed, they didnt have to let him go in 2023 to make room for Busch like I told you

Bob Pockrass confirming news…even despite some Kyle Truthers out there. No 3 for Kyle and….he might get Reddick’s number 8

As far as no plans to send Reddick packing, Allenbaba seems to think different, and I probably didn't phrase it right, but the only way he was going to go to 23XI early is if they bought out Tyler's option year. I don't think Richard wants him at RCR, but if 23XI is refusing to pick up the deal he has a dilemma. Either pay Reddick for a year to drive, or pay him to sit.

I find it hilarious that Kyle identifies so much with Rowdy Burns. Rowdy was clearly modeled after Dale Earnhardt. Kyle is a LOT of things, good and bad, but about the only things Rowdy (Dale) have in common with Kyle is that they have won a lot of races and annoy a lot of people. Their styles and demeanor could not possibly be more different. As an analogy, imagine Scott Dixon trying to be AJ Foyt.

You don’t picture Kyle as the common man, riding his tractor all over his farm after a hard day at the track? Actually the idea of Earnhardt as common man always amused me…I don’t know too many of those fellas that had their own yacht, so much amount of land that I don’t know how to describe it (a ranch maybe?) machines/equipment to maintain said land and then have a private jet. I’m not hating at all but Earnhardt made a lot of money off of people who have had that perception of him. I guess what I’m trying to say is I don’t understand why fans on social media envision Kyle in the 3 because “he’s dale!”

Idk man, Reddick has been very competitive in an RCR car this year. I see no reason why Kyle won’t be as well

It’s hard to gauge. Because of the new car the playing field is very level, but if you go back to last year it was an absolute Chevy domination by Hendrick and Kyle Larson.

I don’t expect this IndyCar level of parity to continue, and that’s when we’ll really see where RCR is as the big teams get more acquainted with the car

I know it won’t happen, but dammit I love if we got a swerve and Kyle was going some place else lol. Just so we all get shocked.

Just because Dale made a lot of money and learned to enjoy the good life doesn't mean that he was fundamentally changed from the man he was when he had nothing, and I think a lot of people respected that and identified with that. Dale was a very flawed man, but he never ran from his roots or who he had been, quite the opposite, he was proud of humble upbringing. Besides, he just exuded cool like only a few have in the entire history of NASCAR. Kyle Busch could win 400 races and 19 championships and he would STILlL look like Howdy Doody's little brother.

He was one cool dude. Just had it.

I never understood why Dale was particularly singled out as "the blue-collar driver" at that time, when it was an era where many drivers came from blue-collar beginnings. I'm pretty sure lots of drivers in the 70s through the 90s drove pickups and went fishing.
I think Dale had A LOT of fans (fans who are still around to this day) who never really grasped the sport, and viewed him as an embodiment of a lifestyle that they identify with. It's something that wasn't exclusive to Dale. It's why you have a lot of fans grieving NASCAR with Dale.

A certain number of folks over identified with Dale, and felt a version of NASCAR and a version of Dale that never really existed died with him.

I for one believe Dale would welcome all of the change, and efforts NASCAR is making to appeal to a broader fanbase.

I don't care what number they want to use, they just need to get rid of the stupid block font on the 8. It looks like something you would see on an arena league football team jersey

The arena football league was equal to the NFL from 2005-2008 based off the fan experience. Some arenas were pretty nuts & sold out.

We got season tickets to the Chicago franchise for the 07-08 season. They used to play at All State Arena in Rosemont. We walked out of there mid first quarter and never returned. Not our cup of tea….anyways Happy Kyle Busch To RCR Day!!!

Hell no, Dale would not welcome all the goofy changes nascar has made since 2001. Dale would’ve been vocal.

So maybe all the "JGR can't afford Kyle's price" talk was just that: talk. Lack of sponsorship was the convenient cover story. It's sounding now like they weren't meeting Kyle's asking now matter if it were $10M or $10. Kinda bummed we don't get a statement from JGR calling him "family."
Pockrass reporting that JGR offered a number consistent with the highest paid drivers that was rejected.....but go with the family thing.

I heard this from so in so and that from you know who. Maybe so. What is said and in print that I have read comes from an article.

“The biggest surprise was when he came to us less than one hour before the announcement. I don’t think it showed any respect for his race team or everyone who got him where he is,” Childress told Fox’ Bob Pockrass. “Less than one hour before the announcement? A lot of stuff swirls around an 18-month announcement.

“The biggest thing is you should come to me respectfully and say, ‘Hey, I’ve signed, I want to do something, how do you think we should make a joint announcement?’ None of that happened. I’m not upset he’s going wherever he’s going. But the way it was handled was very unprofessional.”

Yeah, whatever, your proof is better than mine. You win the board. Warms my heart that Richard has chosen KFB to support his passion for professionalism.

Pretty sure Dave Wilson was very genuine in his statements. He would have liked Kyle and JGR to fiigure something out. This was not a TRD play. I've said it before, they do not control what JGR does, especially as it relates to drivers. I think the Kyle/JGR relationship simply ran its course, and for many reasons.
You are no ****** fun. Gosh man, so many had this all figured out.
