2018 Charlotte -- Bank Of America Roval 400 - Pre-Race Thread

Theres rain in the forecast? Holy $hit that will make things even more interesting.
Local news in Charlotte is calling like 10% chance on Sunday as of this morning. Nothing to worry over. 40% Saturday, though.

LOL!

In preparation for the Roval, @DaleJr has hired a parking attendant for the car graveyard Saturday and Sunday. #NASCAR

Just think this time next year after this splendid idea of racing on a roval, we’ll have Restrictor Plate Roval Racing! Asses in the seats for sure

Schumacher never had to drive something this heavy with this narrow of tires with this little downforce, and probably not without ABS and traction control either. And THEN there is the banking. Any rain tire that would hold up to a Cup car on the banking would be like driving on hockey pucks in the infield. Even IMSA struggles at Daytona with this, especially during the transition from fully wet to fully dry, and those cars are a LOT lighter and have a LOT less horsepower.

I hear you, but he absolutely could have. Absolutely. GOAT.

Unlike Sonoma and Watkins Glen, yellows are going to be a big deal here without run off. Going to be interesting, but I am way into it. Can't wait for the first hot laps to see who unloads fast. This is great stuff in terms of building anticipation.

Not thrilled with the forecast. Some rain Friday and Saturday with nothing Sunday. Nobody is going to go out and risk balling up a car on anything less than a dry track. Hoping rain stays away, or the forecast changes for Sunday. That would be awesome. Forcing wet practices and qualifying if the conditions are consistent Sunday. Damn it, I love this!.....and yeah, I used to hate road course racing for stock cars.....no longer.....this is great. It's going to be fun. Helping move my week along!

I would wager looking at Watkins Glen to see who will unload fast as they’ll likely use that car. (Just assuming based on being a high speed road course.). 18, 78, 9, 4... 18 has all the talent needed, brass onions, and freedom of not needing to worry about points. I fear I’ll be sitting through the KB show.

I think 'F1 flavor' is part of the 'Monster lifestyle'. :D

The article sounds like 'flavor' is how the track and walls are painted, maybe infield signs, and other aspects of physical appearance. I wouldn't know 'F1 flavor' track paint from an Earl Scheib $19.95 special. Just as long as the 'flavor' is the only thing similar to F1, and not the racing itself. As far as the racing goes, the only 'flavor' I've seen in F1 is ... vanilla.

I see they have the pedestrian bridge up now. They said a long time ago that they were going to add seating in the infield. Haven't seen that, but ya never know, they have the bridge up.

I would like to see when a car is really damaged, they drag it into the infield and drop the flag. don't tell anybody just do it. Let them have it back when the stage is over.:D

This is one race that I will absolutely go out of my way to watch live. I am hoping for maximum entertainment value.

If it rains for qualifying will they run wet tires or go off of points?

Thought this was kind of funny from racer.com

And even for drivers like Keselowski who go to Charlotte with nothing on the line, having fun might be hard.

“As much fun as you can have going into a race knowing you’re going to destroy about 30 cars,” said Keselowski.
