You know usually I would say Gragson isn’t ready for Cup. Although several drivers that HMS brought to Cup that were successful in the lower series never panned out. The best drivers that Hendrick have hired were “not ready for Cup”. So if Gragson is going to the #48 team, the risk might work.

Although logic tells me he is going to the #37 if it’s a Cup deal.
 
If it really is him in the 48 with all the available talent already in the Cup series, then I'm floored. It's also a foreboding sign for the trajectory of HMS.

Mr H. has has his greatest success when picking a non- cup driver, 2 of them are JG and JJ. Sure he has had some flops but who hasn't? Another thing you must remember is his drivers must agree to his terms as to how they interact with the public. KB didn't fit the mode.

Fair enough. I selfishly want someone who can come in and contribute with Chase to improve the team as a whole. Bowman pulls his weight I guess, and Byron is lost. If they go with unproven youth in someone like Gragson again, then I hope they can poach some experienced and successful engineering and crew chief style talent.

edit: full disclosure, I say this as an Elliott fan. I've never been a HMS fan (quite the contrary) until my favorite signed with them.
 
I heard it was Grayson to the 48 a couple of weeks ago but was not able to find any collaboration. This is very interesting. I hope it is Grayson. I believe he is a good fit.

Among other things, Tony had Zippy, Chevy's backing, and Harvick and two previous champs (himself and Kurt), and a fully-sponsored fourth car.

And this team isn't happening anyway.

Byron is in a bad position. He can't / won't talk back to Chad to get what he needs and I will go out on a limb and say Chad has fallen as far as JJ has. I think his ego has overtaken his desire to be the best.
 
I do think William needs a new CC. If/when next driver steps into the 48, they need to move a couple CCs or just do some sort of rotation to give William a chance with someone else and let Chad go with the other guy...

Just don’t think the chemistry is right between Chad and William.

I like Byron, I want him to get a chance at someone else before he’s completely chewed up and spit out... another season or two without a win and there’s no way a guy can hold a hot seat like a Hendrick car in this era while being winless in his cup career after multiple seasons.
