2025 schedule news/rumors

Jordan Bianchi on the Teardown podcast says New Hampshire, Gateway are replacing Homestead and Watkins Glen in the playoffs next year. Homestead moves to March.
Cool. I was advocating this idea since last year. Loudon in the playoffs=boring. 😴

I hope this means Homestead has some serious upgrades coming in conjunction for their 2026 finale bid. Great track, but quite lacking in terms of amenities and facilities, especially after many other tracks have upgraded theirs over the past decade or so.

This insistence on a west coast finale is infuriating at this point. They'll end up closing Homestead-Miami Speedway just to keep the finale in the desert.

Moving Homestead to March would be assume! I could actually get down there for the race.

I guess if a person is looking for any excuse to be infuriated that is as good as any. What difference does it make? Almost everybody in R-F land won't be going to either, but watching it on TV.

So if the tracks were switched, you'd be okay with the final being in Homestead? If the banked 1.5 true oval was moved to Phoenix, and the flat 1-miler with the dogleg was in Miami, you'd be okay with the final race being in FL?

Personally, it's the length of the final race in Phoenix that bugs me more than the time zone or the track layout. 312 miles is too short to decide the championship. It nearly eliminates the already miniscule chance of a hardware failure. It isn't much of a test of driver stamina either. There aren't as many chances for the pit crews to gain or lose positions, or as much chance of green flag stops.

I'm just glad I don't live in the Mountain time zone; now those people get dumped on.

Yeah Phoenix race is too short I agree. They have to give these guys more stops to tune on the car, keep up with the track or not because of strategy calls.

Per the Athletic and Jordan Bianchi: “The reasoning as explained to me is that, with California Speedway currently not operational and fewer races on the West Coast, NASCAR needed additional warm-weather venues at the beginning of the year. This, in turn, hopefully helps alleviate the inclement weather that faces NASCAR during the spring when it travels to tracks where poor weather is often an issue. ”

Homestead being moved for next year because…there’s not many warm weather tracks to start the season. Well…that’s why I kind of believe in, this what happens when you start changing things just to change them despite what worked well for how many years. You kind of end up boxing yourself into a situation where now a stupid decision has to be made. I hope Hoemstead finds its way back into the deep part of the playoffs

Christopher Bell blew a brake caliper last year

Finale should be in Homestead but I don't think it's ever leaving Phoenix under any circumstances.

The race is going to sell out every year guaranteed because it's seating capacity is so small anyway.

There's a less than one percent chance of that race ever being delayed due to weather. And that guarantees the race will never be pushed to USA or CNBC.

On the other hand, the playoff field is already whittled down to 8 by that point. I think maximum drama would be if they made Dega a first round race, where effectively half the grid is still in playoff contention.

F***ING Roval
How badly I wish this experiment would end.

Our luck, Chase Elliott will win that race this year which guarantees it another five years minimum.
Give me the Roval over falling back into the all mile and a half days. There will come a time they won't be good. The schedule should be diverse and the roval is unique. If you want to stop a road course stop going to COTA.

Why the COTA hate? It's better than Sonoma.

The Roval is a ****** fake road course that's there to create "chaos."

Personally I am excited to see how the new configuration of the Roval races.
I’m not fully convinced that the Roval should be a long-term feature of the schedule, but I’m intrigued by the new layout and definitely willing to give it a chance.

There are too many good road courses in North America to be beholden to the same five or six each year, if that’s how many you’re going to run for perpetuity. I think the only untouchable one should be Watkins Glen.

Watkins Glen and Road America should be permanent fixtures on the schedule. Road America mainly for that fanbase.

I'm fine with Austin too. Races are usually entertaining there, whether its NASCAR or F1, and it saves us from a second Texas Motor Speedway date. And, honestly, I don't believe there are too many road courses on the schedule, just too many bad ones. Bad ones mainly being Sonoma and Charlotte.

I'd like to see NASCAR go to Monterey instead of Sonoma sometime. And they need to take Cup to Portland, even if it's a terrible track, that or run a street race in Seattle. (Yes, I'm a shameless market chaser.)

Street racing needs to be a permanent fixture too. Personally, I have a feeling it may be the only way of staying in Los Angeles, assuming Fontana is dead. I also think street racing could be used to introduce the sport to markets where existing tracks could then be used in the future. Chicago (Joliet), Denver (Pikes Peak) and Philadelphia (Millville) all come to mind.

I assume the only reason they keep doing the Charlotte roval is that the road courses in the south which might be able to handle a Cup race are either already booked elsewhere in the year (COTA) or are owned/managed by ISC (Sonoma, Road Atlanta, Sebring) and thus they can't snatch a date away from SMI. Not great for fans but it ain't about them in that case.

Whenever the schedule comes out there are always fanatics with the they ought to go here or go there picks. Nascar is always going to give priority to the tracks that Nascar and the Smith's own, wishing and hoping for other venues are going to be few and far between. They spent a ton on Chicago for example, a bunch on the Clash, and you can bet other venues cut into their bottom line if they aren't in the family.

Haven't missed one yet. Great viewing. Easy to see the drivers setting up their moves through the corners. Not sure about the new layout, since a lot of good passing took place in the old turn 8. Elliott owned that sucker, and Bowyer did too.

I agree with pretty much all of that. I think Road America will eventually come back because the previous crowds ultimately prove too good to ignore, and its successor (Chicago) will fall off for something else at some point (politics, etc.). COTA is probably the most globally recognizable U.S. road course there is and the racing has been pretty good so far. Laguna Seca is similarly globally renowned, although I can’t ever see it replacing Sonoma considering the ownership factors at play. Likewise, you won’t see Charlotte replaced by anything ever.

I’m still baffled there’s nothing Cup in the PNW and either Portland or a street event would be okay with me. Xfinity attendance at Portland has looked respectable so far, and the racing pretty fun as well.

I think the Independence Day weekend is a good date for the street course event if they can keep it, but acknowledge that it would depend on what holiday festivities a given city typically has that weekend.

I think the Cheeseheads would show up for wheelchair races. Those are some die hard motorsports fans! If any place can be said to 'deserve' a race, it's RA.

Road America has the best core fan base of any road course in the nation and it isn’t close. They have tons of season ticket holders who go to everything there in between the vintage weekends, SCCA, GTWC, IMSA, IndyCar, Trans-Am, MotoAmerica, and so on. It’s virtually impossible for a race weekend there to fail and in hindsight the real question is why it took so long for IndyCar (post-unification hiatus) and NASCAR (one Grand National race in 1956) to go back there in the first place.
