2025 schedule news/rumors

It doesn't count so I don't much care where it's held. Odds are the format will be much like LA, so I probably won't watch anyway.

Pretty stupid weatherwise.
Just go back to the original format.
It wasn't broke until they fixed it.
I would agree stupid on a bunch of levels, but honestly the race was broke long before it went to LA. The car package for Daytona simply does not lend itself to short races like this, and hasn't for twenty some odd years, maybe more. Honestly, once they broke away from the pole winner only twenty lap format, I totally lost interest in a race I used to look forward to all offseason. For some stupid reason, I can STILL remember Terry Labonte's winning time from 1984. 15 minutes, 19 seconds...........

Yeah.
That's why I said original format.
Once they started bastardizing it to get more cars it started to suck. The teams previously bitched because it wasn't fair to their sponsors to not be included and then once they were included, they bitched about wrecked racecars.

Sponsors, teams and fans just need to get over themselves. You want to be included in something? Go EARN it. Exclusivity is what makes things special. That's why having a 16 team playoff is so damn absurd, when most years only 3-5 teams have earned ANY type of right to have a chance to win it. The whole sporting world has been ruined by fans that lose interest if their team is out of contention, and by owners and sponsors whining that others are making more money because of their excellence as opposed to your own lack of it. . Boo Hoo Hoo.

A fun article from Bob as we wait for more scheduling news to drop. Feels like we had a drip there for a bit and then the faucet was turned off. Chicagoland, Rockingham and Nashville FGS get my votes.

I can understand the desire to go to Toronto or Montreal / Villeneuve, but I'd love to see Cup at MoSport. Other series have put on good to great shows there, and I'd like to see Ron Fellows get some love. I don't expect it to happen for Cup, but maybe it can be put back on the X or Truck schedules.

Mid Ohio deserves a cup race. Also, lets bring back Eldora for the trucks. That was a great annual race

Maybe its me and maybe its a very wrong opinion but I have zero desire to see Cup run more Road Courses. Even less to see them run across either border. Are they racing at 4 or 5 now? I think thats a good number, anything more is overkill imo. We got COTA, Sonoma, Street Course Chicago, Watkins Glen, and The Roval. I hope I'm not forgetting one but yea 4 would be a good number. 3 regular season and then strategically put in the playoffs. But odd we were getting many snippets of schedule news and then it just stopped. Maybe they're planning something big again?

^Chicago street and Charlotte roval aren't guaranteed to be on the schedule long-term. I'd love to see a race in Canada in July or August.

I think they’ll at least try have a street race each year moving forward even if it isn’t necessarily in Chicago. A number of cities would want to host a NASCAR street weekend and it’s in the sanctioning body’s interest to keep doing so. Mexico City is also probably joining the calendar in place of a Richmond event. Add that and somewhere in Canada in ‘26 and that’s seven RC events, depending on whether they switch up Charlotte at some point.

I wish they could get the Fairgrounds project moving along but that’s been pretty quiet for a bit now. Wonder if at some point it’s too much hassle for SMI and Marcus Smith pulls the plug.

The whole process hit reset after their recent elections.

I don’t think it’ll ever happen. That soccer club is hellbent on preventing it.

I recall reading somewhere that the facilities at Mid Ohio need considerable physical repair, and that only the track itself is up to snuff. I think it was in an article about the IMSA schedule and why that series stopped going there.
Having attended many races at mid Ohio I agree that the infrastructure is no where close to other road courses I been like Watkins Glen. If you look at mid Ohios schedule over the past 10 years it is on a downward spiral. Not sure where it will end up.

It's not the best layout either, IMO. Cup cars would really struggle to pass there. Too twisty for modern day race cars.

7 is too many road courses, should be 3 or 4.

Why not do Rockingham for the clash? They could make it a double header. First, determine qualifying by using the drag strip and watch these Cup cars battle it out on the quarter mile. Then next day line up all the cars on the oval, all stopped in formation, and drop the green flag.

Something different!

Ugh oh, the Aldermen are voicing their concerns on behalf of the tax payers again

I've enjoyed the races I've seen broadcast from there, including Xfinity. Just one idjit's opinion.
I quite like it as well, but it would probably be tougher to pass with the repave now. At least, that’s what I expect with Indy there next month. That place and Laguna Seca really benefited from being tire eaters because they’re otherwise pretty narrow.

My former stomping grounds race reporter put up an interesting poll question a few days ago... https://racedayct.com/2024/06/raced...sman-truck-series-could-race-in-ct-next-year/

First, the reporter is professional and has been in the CT racing scene for 20+ years. He talks to EVERYONE in the northeast racing scene, especially Connecticut. He's not naming his source but this isn't exactly a kid on Reddit making stuff up.

Lime Rock could absolutely do it. They've hosted IMSA for a long time. NASCAR used to run modifieds and the current ARCA East series there for a number of years in til the early 2010s. There is some kind of Parker Kligerman connection there and Mike Joy has done a bunch there over many many years from racing to promoting.

Stafford is one of the premier short tracks in the country. They have dumped many many millions into the property. SAFER walls, a replay board, and had facilities up to snuff at least for SRX. It is still owned/operated by the Arute family. It was world-class when I was last there in 2021 and my friends still in CT have told me it's gotten even better since.

If it does shake out, either property would put on a fantastic show. I'd get my ass on a plane to go, for sure.

If facilities are major point, a race at Barber makes all the sense in the world. I'd love to see a Barber/Dega DH weekend with a weekend champ determined by total points in both races and a bonus for winning both

For cars with fenders though? I'd expect solid passing opportunities in 1,4,6,8,11 & 14

$hit-can the Chicago Street race after the three year contract runs out, give the date to Chicagoland and run it on a Saturday night.

Yeah idk why we go to Chicago streets and are fighting tooth and nail for the Fairgrounds when it's clear they don't want NASCAR

Probably because they have 2 years left on their contract with the city.
Chicago Street race: The first street race in NASCAR Cup Series history delivered the biggest rating for NBC in six years.
Nascar fans: get rid of it.

People aren't driving 45+ minutes to go to racetracks when there's plenty of entertainment options in the middle of the city.

Besides, the best way to get fans to want to drive to Chicagoland Speedway is to get them hooked first.

I don't pay much attention to who I respond to but I can't help but notice you have the most nonsensical replies to me every time I say something that could somehow be construed as negative.

1. Yes I know there's 2 years left on the contract. And it has also been reported in the mainstream media and discussed here ad nauseum that NASCAR in downtown Chicago is a major, decisive issue in the city and that the race future, even with a contract, was/is still under threat.
2. WTF do the TV ratings have to do with the city wanting the race or not.
3. NASCAR fans are of mixed opinion on whether or not it was a good race... but again, wtf does that have to do with the city wanting the race or not?

1. Doesn't look like any threat. Politicians begging for money. Nascar has paid additional money to the city this year.
2. Money to pay to the city to hold the race the city cares about money.
3. Again biggest ratings in 6 years for NBC. Note: that was a rain delayed race BTW.
4. This is a discussion thread.
When Mayor Brandon Johnson announced NASCAR would be returning to the streets of downtown Chicago this summer, he touted that he got a “better deal for the people in Chicago” by reducing setup and takedown time and securing extra money to “give us the ability to pay for some of the cost that occurs as a result” of the race.
