All-Star race experimentation receives mostly high marks

The proposed package or any tweaked evolution of it will ruin some of the best tracks where the surface has aged to allow for difficult, high speed, slick racing like Auto Club and Chicagoland. Even Kansas has improved considerably.

The "drafting package" will also be a clusterf**k at more single groove tracks like Texas and Kentucky.

The correct adjustments would have been more power and working on less sideforce. This is a dumpster fire anywhere and everywhere. There is not a single good thing about it. As usual, the "We're giving the fans what they want" posture is a sham. They keep chasing mythical would-be fans who no longer give a f**k no matter that they "enhance".

I could not agree more.

Agree totally, NASCAR wonders why the are losing fans and sponsors, prime example right here.

Elimination playoffs and Capri Sun breaks have nothing on this. Making half of the schedule a plate race is the jumping of the shark. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find many who wouldn't agree they've totally lost the plot at this point.

Oh well I guess.

Looks like the renewed interest I have had in Nascar this year will be short lived.
I really thought when they came up with the elimination style play off that no other gimmick could top that. I obviously underestimated nascars insatiable desire for new gimmicks.
I'm starting to realize just how unintelligent Nascar feels there average fan is. Tie them all together, wad 3/4 of the field up and watch us drunk rednecks cheer- must be what they think.
Let me elucidate this to them, I'm not interested in a plate series and I will not watch or attend anything that resembles such.

IndyCar doesnt have the appeal of bumping and banging and short tracks are a no-go, but atleast it’s a legitimate racing series that has done it’s best to recapture some of the 1990s racing style.

No lack of speed or talent there.

I guess I'll continue to watch the illegitimate series, and whenever I see O'Donnell on the tube I will shout FORNICATOR!

Bringing up F1 of all things is a total non sequitur, and has nothing to do with whether this would be a positive or negative change for NASCAR.

What supporters of the "drafting package" (I bet that's the name they settle on to sell it) are really criticizing is NASCAR racing circa 2018. Nobody likes something but thinks it needs to be radically changed. It's just more self loathing coming from the top down.

The only thing we can do guys is don't watch, don't buy merchandise, and don't buy tickets. Unfortunately I love the sport so much that I don't know if I'm capable of doing any of those things, but that's the reality. If they go this route and make these drastic changes, it could take years to undo it. If it flops, they aren't going to scrap it, they'll further tweak it.

If I wanted 550hp I'd go buy myself a Charger SRT and let it rip.

If they change it to the point where it's no longer the sport I love, I'm easily capable of doing all of those things. There are other forms of motorsports, and other forms of entertainment. I've adopted and abandoned many of them in my life.

I'll watch a few races with the new package, decide if what I see affects how I feel about the rest of the season, and then stay or move on. No big deal. This isn't a philosophical or moral question for me, just entertainment.

What I don't understand is that this season I think the racing is much better, why change now?:idunno:

Well said. I’ve been watching and reading this thread since the news came out late last week. I really wanted to compose myself and take my time on what to post as not to sound like a rambling Death Bedder or world is ending type of guy. Because I’m not, I try to rationalize both sides of the “NASCAR is dying argument.” . But here goes.... I don’t want to see a drafting package at many of those tracks, they’ve aged well enough to where I’d say most of our 1.5’s this year have kept me entertained. If this drafting package is indeed the one that will be used, I’m out. This sport just continues to break my heart watching it shoot itself in the foot and make mistake after repeated mistake. Enough is enough especially when Indy Car is killing it and say what you want about a boring F1, but Vettel vs Hamilton has been amazing and what I’m watching there is more legit than a gimmick playoff system with gimmick stages. But that’s okay I put up with bastardizing the point system, then bastardizing the races themselves because at the heart of it it was still nascar and still racing. The uniqueness of a new each track each week and corresponding driver skill with watching how teams adjusted to said track and skill still kept me hooked. But not this crap package...... Just a shame, I don’t want to see a 550hp stock car in drafts, I don’t want to watch mini Daytona’s and Dega’s each week. When will the bad decision making stop? How many more fans can you afford to lose? I hated the all star race, I was actually embarrassed to be a fan. Sure I was entertained, but I knew I was watching a carnival freak show that really had no bearing on the season. It’s really sad to see NASCAR throw it away the last 15 years or so, and if this change happens I’ll be rooting for it all to fail.

That's easy. The NASCAR front offices don't care if the racing is better or worse, they care if the TV ratings go up or down. They still think (incorrectly) the popularity of the late '90s and early '00s can be revived.
But they fail to realize much of that was their drivers at the time were freaking rock stars as well as the racing was awesome, points system legit, and Dodge and Pontiac were in it.

I agree. I am not going to bail on this sport, but I find myself loving the WRC more and more. It has what I really want....highly developed and engineered race cars, a rules box that is fairly wide open, and drivers driving these machines to the limit against a clock--not some subjective measure of "great racing." The narrative before rallies is about the unique development of each car, and the discussion after the rally is about what worked and what didn't. The garage is open, covered, and discussed. Additionally, they test, and with that comes new aero bits, discussion and analysis.

some of ya are really painting yourself in a corner. I'm sure none of ya will fall on your sword over it, but being so closed minded and polarized over something that nobody has seen yet could set a person up to look pretty foolish.

Absolutely amazing. Some Hoping the sport will fail? Just ridiculous.

We have seen it. We’ve seen it over and over again over the last 15 years. We saw it at the All-Star Race. This isn’t being closed-minded at all.

Maybe when I said fail it’s too strong of a word (unfortunate hot take) , I don’t want people in the industry to lose jobs in the sport or the sport to go away. Agreed that’s ridiculous, and that’s on me. I will change from fail to bail, that’s more fair I think. I’ll bail.

Hey if I’m wrong, I’ll admit. I feel in the short time I’ve been on here I’ve pointed at myself when I look foolish. I hope it doesn’t end up like that but if it does, we’ll point and stare and move on. I’m not above admitting when I’m wrong or making a point when I look stupid. I would like to ask though if I may, why are you so optimistic about going to this rules package? Just would like to get the other side of it.

I'm sure you have never been told you have a flair for the dramatic right? :D

Well I would say maybe my posts come off as dramatic I really try to work on that, I was hoping it was getting better

I think you should give it ( whatever "it" is) a chance, we really dont know yet. Its not gonna be mini Daytonas and Degas I can tell you that.
