Jeffrey Abbey to Join Niece Motorsports at Eldora Speedway

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 12, 2017) – Jeffrey Abbey will make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut on July 19 at Eldora Speedway in the No. 45 Silverado for Niece Motorsports. The 18-year-old driver got his start behind the wheel racing go-karts at the age of six.

Abbey, who will attend Texas A&M University in the fall to study engineering, has earned 62 wins in 225 starts, between 2013 and 2017, racing IMCA Southern Sport Modifieds. In addition, Abbey’s resume boasts a 2016 IMCA Supernationals Championship at Boone Speedway. Abbey was also the IMCA Nationals Point Champion in 2016, as well as the Brian Mize Memorial Champion at 85 Speedway in 2016.

Abbey was the Southern Challenge Champion at Abilene Speedway in 2016 and the Texas State Champion in 2015 and 2016. Abbey was crowned the Boyd Raceway Track Champion in both 2015 and 2016.

“I’m so excited to get behind the wheel of one of these Trucks,” said Abbey. “For my first start to come at Eldora, is even more special. I’ve grown up racing on dirt, and to do it on this stage is a huge deal. The whole team has been working hard, and I’ve gotten a little test-time under my belt, which will hopefully help with the learning curve. I can’t wait for the race.

I'd love to see NASCAR at Eldora, but I agree keep it to one a year. Would be shocked if it wasn't awesome if the cup guys ran here, those lighter cars could really slide here

It's cool when a driver you know or are following in an other series shows up in the series. Christopher Bell was that way for me. Probably don't want to hear that, Bell edged out Pierce for a win.

Aussie NASCAR Truck rookie working on Bristol deal

Max Johnston is hoping to add to his number of Camping World NASCAR Truck Series starts this season, with plans to get a deal together for the Bristol round next month.
The Sydneysider made his Truck debut at Eldora last week, using his extensive dirt track experience to run inside the Top 10 before a spin and subsequent contact from Ben Rhodes early in Stage 2 put him out of the race.
“We’re trying to get the funding to run Bristol in August or Martinsville in October,” Johnston told Motorsport.com.

“I loved the circumstances I went into at Eldora, I love being thrown in the deep end, and having the pressure. But when I rolled out there, I thought ‘wow this is a bit bigger than a Sprintcar race’. It did hit me a little bit, and I panicked a little bit – and I didn’t expect myself to do that.

“So I’d love to have the opportunity again. I’ve done it now, people know I’m capable of putting me butt in the seat. Now I could come into it a lot calmer.”

No word yet on whether the plan is for the new engine to be optional or mandatory. If mandatory, I'd expect the three manufacturers to be strongly opposed.

NASCAR considering spec engines for the Truck Series in 2018

GMS tested the spec engine NASCAR is considering for the Camping World Truck Series in 2018.

Truck Series champion Johnny Sauter and Spencer Gallagher took laps around Darlington Raceway on Tuesday shaking down the Ilmor Engines-designed power plant. The spec engine turned laps that were two-tenths faster than the current engine used by the Chevy team.

Ilmor currently provides spec engines for the ARCA series at a cost of about $40,000. The engines can run approximately 1,500 miles before needing to be rebuilt. Although there could be cost savings for the teams, the factory support to NASCAR’s top trucks would be trimmed considerably.

Although NASCAR hoped to offer teams the option to run the “Delta” engine in 2016, the rollout was delayed due to reliability issues with the Gibbs engines and a lack of support from the manufacturers. NASCAR is expected to meet with the truck teams next Tuesday in Charlotte to discuss the possible options for the engine. A second test is scheduled on Aug. 22 with teams representing each manufacturer.

Motorsport.com was told truck series director Brad Moran was unavailable for comment. (Link to article)

If this becomes a spec engine series it's going to be interesting to see how the cost savings compare to the manufacturer backing a select few teams get. Toyota no doubt have no interest in a spec engine, and I imagine the case is the same for Ford. KBM and BKR could both have the plug pulled on them as far as OEM support goes.

I HATE THIS! Toyota hates this. Terrible.

NASCAR has to find a way to reduce cost for teams. Look at all of the teams, including the top tier teams facing sponsor shortages for next year.I guess the engine would mean something to me if the car I drove came with it.My Fusion has a 4 cylinder in it,as does my brothers Camry.

Totally get that understand it 100%.....but that's not how I FEEL about it...whether that makes sense or not.

If it is the same program that ARCA uses, the Ilmor 396 engine is an option to use or they can use their own. It's bad fast, gives lower level teams great horsepower, can be used on all of the different tracks, Holly fuel injected.

Or maybe they could just run more short tracks but considering ISC/SMI own all the tracks on the schedule and with the contracts that's not gonna happen. If it increases field counts I guess I'm for it.

I'd enjoy to see some good luck come Truex's way, he's been fast all season, but just time after time something happens. A win today from him would be the feel good win of the year, considering how his career has turned out.

I agree.

He's due, one truck team , Truex needs a break. Austin Hill was impressive, family team on a part time schedule.

Christopher Bell takes Truck Series points lead after Pocono win

Christopher Bell assumed the Camping World Truck Series points lead after winning Saturday’s race at Pocono Raceway.

Bell, claiming his fourth win of the year, knocked off Johnny Sauter from the top spot.

The Kyle Busch Motorsports driver has an 18-point lead over Sauter, who has only one win this season. Bell last led the points after his win at Atlanta in March.

Completing the top five is Chase Briscoe (-58), Matt Crafton (-64) and John Hunter Nemechek (-132).
