now you look sillyier notice all those drivers appear to be hispanic, and that is fine. he wants to promote them but lets just make very very clear a billionaire promoting drivers that are the same ethnicity as he is, is very different than toyota putting money, their own budgeted money toward someone they think it going to do well like eric jones.

You are out of your depth. You claimed that Carlos Slim isn't in the racing business. You were wrong. Now you're pivoting back to "ethnicity". He's a rich Mexican who lives in Mexico, he's supporting drivers from his home country and has supported races in his home country. There's no way you would view an Alabama businessman supporting tracks and drivers in his home state negatively. There's no way you'd ever look at the all-white driver rosters of a white team owner and complain that he only helps drivers of his own ethnicity. You keep saying "that is fine", but you clearly believe otherwise. You're hung up on this particular kind of favortism in a sport with rampant nepotism and drivers being given an advantage for all kinds of superficial reasons. I would suggest that you should just get over it, your NASCAR is never going to be overrun by Mexicans. Otherwise you're just backing yourself into a logical corner you can't escape.
 
I root for the first non-American manufacturer in NASCAR history. Trust me people....this will pass.
 
My friends, some of these posts are getting into deep waters with the xenophobic posts.
I don't care what ethnicity the driver is --- if someone wants to put them behind the wheel for whatever reason, that is their business.
If they can't drive up to par, sooner or later they will be weeded out.

Hendrick had 5 wins and JGR had 12 wins last year. You do the math.

Hendrick had one competitive car, one car with a rookie, one sharing three drivers (one of whom was also a rookie), and the highly questionable #5 team. Independent of the hardware, JGR's stable is stronger. Stewart-Haas put both of its competitive drivers in the Chase in Hendrick equipment.
 
I vote we put Suarez, Montoya & Ward in the TV booth for a day. Closed caption comedy right there.

I can't tell from Busch's quote whether he means he and his team found out from Joe Gibbs on Sunday before the announcement, or if he means he and the other drivers.

It is wild to me that allenbaba knew, and knew a lot about the process as it went on, and people inside the organization had no clue.

It's possible that allenbaba is a sponsor contact or PR person. He said that so few people knew he couldn't risk revealing who the mystery retiree was because he would be too easy to pin down. so I'd guess he's in direct contact with Carl or Joe's reps on some level.

This story just gets weirder. I am going to assume that his PSA has not been terminated.

Carl is not driving,BUT he is still being held to certain parts of his contract. These are obligations that he already received payment for in the first year of this contract.

You'd think that he would buy his way out of that. Hell, I don't want to see a non-Toyota driver take the Land Speed Cruiser to 230. Pretty sure he didn't want to do it. He is rich. You get my point. Weird.
 
Yup, I got your point but I would like to remind you that Carl is pretty tight fisted. He didn't part with his money, did his own negotiating and saved more there. Getting out of the car was a smart move for him, Doesn't mean he has to get out of racing and now he can enjoy himself. Watching him on interviewst he last 5 years I got the impression he wasn't liking his job.
 
Gordon Kirby is reporting Edwards is being paid $15M to sit out this season and will drive for Penske in 2018.
