Cup RACE thread --- Fontana

I’m sorry, yeah I’m just mad. Even if not on purpose (as I doubt Chase did what I mentioned on purpose as well) a mistake is a mistake and he still should IMO be called out for it. Maybe part of the blame does belong to his spotter. But Larson still needs to be more aware of his surroundings IMO. I’ll be over it soon, just todays race sucked (for Chase, not the race it self) and he was back up front after he probably should’ve been done earlier, and then that happens. As a fan it really just gets to you, you know? But I shouldn’t have snapped at you, so I’m sorry
No problem. I have not had a very good day either. HMS had 4 cars that could have finished really good today and only one. did, But I'm not that excited about that win due to the controversy. I still don't know what caused Bowman to get into the wall. I didn't see a very good shot of it, so I don't know if it just got away from him or he hit a bump and unloaded the chassis or if someone helped him a little. I will find a video later and watch it.

They’ll talk it over, it’s a mistake. I dropped a couple reactions that aged terrible and will look even worse as Larson will continue to add to his legacy in racing

Hoping that 9 has some good speed next week

congrats to the 5, he simply just keep haulin the mail

18 came back to finish 14th from 5 laps down. Solid determination. He never had a blowout on the radio, they just did what they needed to do.
He did good for sure, still doesn’t change the fact I love him having problems. Just as you are with Chase best buddy.

Great racing live.
9 in the fence in 1 was a good moment.
18 back on the lead lap at the end. Tough day for the Toyotas.
Nice salvage for Kurt and Kevin.
Just dumped the Weber and leaving the track.
If you want to stop by here and drop some leftovers off, it would be appreciated. :D

Right place right time kind of win.

I think the 8, 24, 9, 43 and 12 were all better. Larson just did a better job with track position and the issues the other 5 had.

This is wildly overblown. Making a public apology for a split second decision/mistake in an event that didn’t cause any harm other than hurt feelings. A decision/mistake that potentially…maayyyybe…cost another driver a win. Who knows what happens with 20+ left. Gimmie a break.

It's a competition, they are all fighting for every point, points matter (with my best Burton voice)

Can’t wait to see how this new car is there, so far so good but next week we’ll see if it continues.
Yeah it’s too early for me. The racing was good this weekend but the car is comparatively slower than before the mechanical neutering.
Definitely noticeable through the corners.
2019 was cool at ACS.

That is kind of what I figured. But it is nice to get some insight from someone that has actually been there and done that job. I can only imagine how hard it is to make those split-second decisions that you and the drivers have to make. It looks so easy from my stationary chair. ;) :)
Its really a difficult position, unless its a clear call you just can't make it, these guys are the best of the best and you cant get in their heads and override what they maybe thinking, sometimes you have to let it go. I've had drivers make moves before anything could come out of my mouth. It is what it is, big time sports.

1st of many this year I predict

Larson coming into his age 30 season, 16 wins, 1 championship.

Jimmie Johnson coming into his age 30 season, 18 wins, no championships.

Johnson at the end of his age 30 season, 23 wins, 1 championship.

I know Johnson did that in a much shorter period of time, but in the same equipment, they're pretty much at the same age 30 baseline.

Just food for thought. Jimmie is the GOAT, and Larson probably isn't touching 83 wins, and 7 championships. But I don't think it's unreasonable to ponder if he can get to the 60s and 70s before he retires.

It might be slower, which sucks. But if people can pass, and the car isn’t easy for others to drive, and gives us more people running up front who don’t normally, I’ll be happy.

IMO, Fontana is a difficult track for us to get an accurate assessment. New car, no set-up notes from last year, slick-ass racing surface, minimal practice…

How did the car do on an intermediate track?
The field got strung out. The leader still stretched out a lead, and cars could pass without getting stuck in a pocket of air. Without stages, I'm sure Reddick or Elliott could have opened it up to 3 seconds. We got tire wear. Lifting. Racing all over the track. Comers and goers. A strung out field that still included racing and passing.

Hopefully you can recognize the difference from the 550. This is NASCAR at it's best baby!

Larson probably isn't even thinking about those kinds of statistics. That's what fans do. He is having fun winning races and making Mucho dollars doing it. :)

Ridiculous.
You don't think the 5 spotter was asleep at the wheel per Larson's comments? The inexperienced part came from comments made about Monn on Door Bumper Clear where they questioned if he was ready to spot Cup (last year I believe). If I'm out of line, I apologize.

I've now caught up with post race comments and saw that Monn fell on the sword.

He absolutely should have warned of a run coming at the very least. I hear Eddie do it every week.

Let's face it, if the shoe was on the other foot Chase would be getting dragged for his "race craft" and lack of awareness, and his spotter too. It's all bull****, but Larson just continues to rack up the W's courtesy of the 9 team's issues and he can do no wrong so whatever.

I do think it's funny how we completely dismiss the possibility that Larson did that on purpose but automatically assume Chase spun himself on purpose in an attempt to get even. Totally not realistic that the same part that broke early in the race from a similar wall smack (causing him to spin), broke a second time.

For once, I agree with him as well. Looking at you, Texas.
IMO, I’m actually willing to give Texas one more chance to see how this car with this aero races there. I’ve never been a proponent that the tracks were the problem (tracks that get/got dumped on: Fontana, Michigan,Richmond) but the previous cars were. I think current tracks on the schedule might deserve a clean slate to see how the new cars race there before we go reconfiguring everything in sight.

We always do. You cant go public and say " hell I didnt know he was gonna do that, not my fault". Like I've said before I've had drivers make moves without me saying a word. They have mirrors too and sometimes make their own call. I believe Larson when he said he wouldnt try to wreck his teammate, I just think he miss judged.

Chase was especially spicy on the radio Sunday. Shocked me a couple times.
