That's what I'm talking about. NASCAR is making inroads with a younger crowd. I know naysayers hate any positive news, but I love it. NASCAR is alive and well. NASCAR is smart enough to make changes, they're making them. I see a lot of reasons for optimism.

If they DQ three or four teams in the first half of the season, they won't DQ more than one a year after that.
Chase Elliott needs NASCAR more than NASCAR needs him or any other single driver. The sport existed before anyone on the track today was born, it will be there after they retire.

Sometimes I like the P and Q coverage better than the race. The format is relaxed, the booth crew doesn't wet themselves over every loose wobble or treat everything as it the fate of the free world hung in the balance. TV coverage of a race isn't much like how I'd watch a race at the track. Coverage of P and Q is a lot like how I watch those events at the track - watch a guy for a while, notice some trends, talk about it with my friends, talk about some other racing stuff, swap a few lies, watch another couple of cars, etc.

OK, but I don't watch racing for any other reason than to watch a RACE. EVERYTHING else is just clutter.

Agreed. P and Q are things I have on in the background if there's nothing else on I prefer, but on the weekends there isn't much else on I prefer.

Chad Knaus lauds new postrace inspections; previous wait ‘awful’

“I think we all understand that’s something that needs to be done so we can get the results done, finished and just move on,” Knaus said during an interview on SiriusXM NASCAR’s The Morning Drive program. “When you win a race previously in the Cup Series and you had to wait until Tuesday to take your car apart, that was the worst thing in the world.

“You hated winning a race because all you did from the time that you left victory lane was worry about whether or not your car was going to pass inspection for three days. That’s awful.”

“It’s not so unlike what we did years ago, we used to take our cars apart at the racetrack all the time and go through a postrace inspection and then pull randoms at that point and take them back and get a look at them,” Knaus said. “It’s something I’m not too unfamiliar with, the only new caveat is the fact that they’re going to disallow race wins. Unique from that perspective but familiar in another.”

My guess is the guys that have
"pushed the envelope " so to speak, might not be to pushy now. They're going to pay more than a financial price and/or a suspension. Plus its more than owners/ drivers points being stripped. Its a last place finish. They'll think about that.

If it works and cleans up the sport, the tin foil hats will come out. If it doesn't work, the tin foil hats will come out. But yeah, getting DQ'd can ruin a teams season from the top all the way down the food chain. Everybody is affected.

The penalty should be entertaining for a DQ.

Just heard Harvick's take this year on the new penalties. He's in favor of the DQ stuff. I have always liked Kyle Busch largely because he speaks his mind without remorse. This Harvick flip/flop is the antithesis of that. Glad he found Rodney. They are made for each other.

They won't DQ any winners. You will post this if I am wrong, but I feel pretty strongly about that.

That big ball stuff about NASCAR being bigger than any single driver is BS these days. We don't even know how big NASCAR is, right? Poor attendance, TV ratings, mass hysteria....that's why we promote the hell out of the drivers---to save the sport, right?

Thanks. Still a great policy. NASCAR has the appearance of dropping the hammer. They handle things behind closed doors. Teams won't talk. The narrative is that NASCAR fixed it. Nobody gets hurt.

Why are you so sure NASCAR doesn't want to DNQ somebody? I think they would love nothing more to set the tone that THEY are in control.

I don't think I could quit laughing if they DQ'd KDB first. I know this much..somebody is going to get DQ'd this year, bank on it. Probably more then one.

If I had to bet on 40 cars having act together over 36 races, or on just one team getting caught screwing up once, statistics favor the screw-up. I've never before bought into a conspiracy theory, and I don't see any reason to accept this one.

Eh same ones will raise hell about the inconsistency when one of them gets DQ'd. I do believe it is going to happen, they already sent three of them home for not doing what they said, "bring the car right to the race track" and this was for a non points race.

They have already shown that they are in control. They don't need to. They find something suspect, file under the elimination of a tendency provision privately. Get to the end of the year with no DQ's, and the narrative is that the problem is fixed. Is there anybody here who can visibly tell when somebody is illegal? No. Would a Crew Chief/owner/driver/whoever bitch that somebody was cheating, and NASCAR let them off? Stupid question, but not unless they wanted a piece of the DQ action. Who wins with a DQ besides the second place guy? The reason why teams go after each other is because the consequence hasn't been that big of a deal to them if the focus turns to them. You want to accuse somebody else of cheating, you had better be 100% clean all of the time. Who is that? In short, the mere fact that NASCAR instituted this policy is enough to fix the problem in the eyes of the public. It is a brilliant move.

  40. Revman

Revman Stop asking me about the package!

Yeah, you would like that. Remember, I contend that nobody will be DQ'ed from a win. Didn't say anything about further down the line. No doubt that NASCAR might like to take a shot over the bow if they feel this isn't being taken seriously.
