Fall/Winter Weather Thread

Rollercoaster weather
web_7_day.jpg

Yeah, this roller coaster weather is driving me nuts. 30 tomorrow and the damn near 60 by Sunday, then cold again, then warm again.

Wood stove going pretty good now, keeping ahead of the inclement weather heading our way. Bitter cold tomorrow, and warmth will be the word of the day. Generator started on the first pull , as usual. Might take the "F" for work tomorrow.

Pretty chilly here. Pipes are frozen.

I'm in Florida, that's my new mantra, it was, screw you bobby ford.

At 5:15 this morning, it was 64*; at 5:35, it was 49*. Right now, 9AM, it is 36* with heavy wind -- gusts in the 30 to 40mph range.

Wind was so bad early this morning, it tore the coverings off my outside plants. Had to bundle up and put it all back together. Trying
to tame heavy plastic in a heavy north wind with 2 "helpful" dogs getting in the way must have been a show.

"To put things in perspective, the weather in Atlanta and Nashville, Tennessee on Monday will be colder than in Anchorage, Alaska".

The North Pole is farting in our direction.

This is getting monotonous and dangerous especially for people and animals that are not used to it.

They said last night that we will be getting the worst cold snap in over 20 years. I feel so bad for homeless people, pets and people who have to work outside over the next few days in particular. I remember about 20 years ago I had a Mercury Topaz that the fuel injector would freeze when it got too cold outside. I remember being out in the driveway when it was -25F actual degrees outside one afternoon with a hair dryer and an extension chord manually warming up the throttle body to coax it to life.

So, after visiting our Daughter in the Northern part of the state, we were heading home on I95 south. Right near our exit, I noticed a SUV fishtail in front of us. At the same time, a car next to us lost control, cut across our front, hit the jersey barrier, bounced back across 95 and slid backwards into the woods. The wife was driving'and did a Exemplary job of avoiding thefiasco. She slowed, not braked, and steered the right direction. Arriving home, and decompressing from that Daytona like event,I put the scanner on. 95 is shut down,9seperate accidents in a 5 mile stretch. The EMS services are being called from 5other communities. Not enough ambulances. Life Flight is on scene, and we are SO thankful. So thankful? Now I know what racecar drivers face when shiit hits the fan in front of you.
Now we are going to have a glass of wine.

It's like that movie The Day After Tomorrow, where the people were trying to outrun the freeze, and it was literally right behind them, and moving as fast as they could run.

Some folks aren't that bright. They'd rather go through it every year to prove they're still alive or something ;)

We are power out right now. I'm guessing some picklehead hit a power pole or something. I'm on candles right now. Very dark outside :)
