JGR press conference

Keselowski announced his Darlington throwback scheme today so I'm thinking it's to unveil the throwback scheme for Kenseth's car at Darlington

Could there be a connection about this pending announcement and the abrupt
Leaving of Dave Rogers just 2 weeks ago?

I can't see how this would be anything other than a retirement. Jones is only in the 77 for a year--Barney Visser has said as much. Where else would he go? Jones to the 20. 77 empty until Chris Bell is ready. Gale goes with Jones to the 20. Ratcliff CC's for Bell in Xfinity next year, and goes with him to the 77 in 2019 or 2020.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is the 77 being empty for a year? They went through the growing pains.....new cars....more cars....more personnel. What would they do? Sell the cars lay off everyone only to do it all again in 2019? To me that doesn't quite add up. Someone would have fill the 77 in 2018.

That is the hole in my theory....Just not sure how they would manage that. I am not sure how funded that ride is really. I kind of feel like they could shift people around the JGR/FRR companies to keep everybody in house until Chris was ready....or they find a one/two year guy. Dunno. It kind of feels like Barney is only into the second car for a couple of reasons: 1) JGR needed a place for Erik, 2) Another potential source of funding (not that he needs it, but he deserves it). I might be reading into things, but it just doesn't sound like the 77 is embedded in the FRR family the way the 78 is. I think Barney would be fine going back to a one car team until the second car was needed again. In terms of cars laying around.....Big problem if they were running the '17 Camry....not so big because they are a year ahead with the '18. That body won't be changing any time soon.

Would they possibly push Chris Bell into that 77 car early....2018?

Just can't imagine that. He is just coming into his own in the Trucks. I think two years in Xfinity really. That would make sense though.

I thought Visser said as of right now Jones is in the 77 for a year and beyond that they haven't discussed plans? Aka a one year deal. Doesn't mean it's automatic that he won't be there longer.

Of course this is only based on an interview I heard with Claire B.

The 77 charter was purchased from another team, right?

My thing is that I think Matt Tifft should take a step back to trucks, the back into Xfinity. I think JGR moved him up too quickly IMHO. I would have rather seen Bell in the 19 this year instead of Tifft. He needs a lot more seat time.

Kenseth to the #77 in '18 for a year?

Sorry, I forgot my meds this morning. I'll go take them now.

No no no I've thought this all along. For sure you could be right. Unless you put someone outside of the Toyota camp in the 77 until Chris Bell is ready I thought it made sense. As far as Toyota development drivers Bell in my opinion is the next hot shoe and than it's pretty far down the pipeline for the next guy but as @Revman probably could attest to they have a very deep development driver program.

Matt tift must be decent but they've also had guys like Matt D, Almirola, Scott, Herring come and go.

I hope it's retirement. I've yet to see a worse display of sportsmanship since or before that intentional wreck of Logano at Martinsville in 2015.

But it all really has been downhill since Kenseth had his 7 wins in 2013 and lost the Championship to Knaus...I mean Johnson. I think that took a major toll on him. But whatever. :idunno: :D
Totally agree....I won't miss him if he retires, hell I wouldn't miss half these guys if they retired....need more new blood.

The 77 owns a charter, according to widespread reports. Bought the #46 charter from Harry Scott.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Tift is just a ride buyer, not part of the Toyota Train like Jones and Bell are. Tift's contract status would be more like William Byron was when he was at Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Who knows? Bubba was a former JGR driver, but the lack of sponsorship was the primary reason why he was let go. I think going to Roush with not the best equipment has made him better. Its really showing this year, at least IMHO. The cars improving also helps.

The 77 will be an interesting seat to watch after Jones leaves, maybe another season with FRR? Always interesting to speculate.

Both 37 and 77 will be intereating to watch next year because they are supposed to go to RFR and JGR. ROUSH has to sell his charter or use the 16 because he leased that charter. Vissar bought the 77 charter.

Other than The Danica, is there a more marketable personality than Wallace? I don't think there is.

He was a winner in the Trucks ... and Gibbs couldn't sell him. Very odd. "It" covers a lot of ground.

He's extremely marketable, but it all depends if those companies are interested in NASCAR. Also, not to mention that Bubba Wallace has the same agent as LeBron James.

Leidos is only on for two more races, Bubba needs all the sponsor's he can get it or expect Stenhouse/Bayne in that 6 car some weekends.

Just goes to show how hard it is to sell NASCAR now in days.

It's crazy he can't get sponsorship but I really don't expect him to miss a race as far up as he is in points so far. Ford/RFR would be nuts to not get him an opportunity to get into playoffs or homestead for that matter. Look at last year the best driver/team did not win the xfinity title.

Would Bayne /Stenhouse attract sponsors for that car?

Something is off center. Look at the money on this list:

Plenty of money, but think about those sponsor's on the list.

Most of those sponsor's have been in NASCAR for sometime now. Some sponsor's come with the drivers, some sponsors are loyal with the teams. Guys like Annett, Koch, Gallagher, Suarez, Reed, Armstrong, Gaughan, Allgaier, Clements (family sponsor/team), Sieg (family sponsor/team), Black Jr. Most of those sponsor's are given to them.

I'm saying constantly attracting new sponsors. Its crazy enough to know that teams with history behind them are struggling to fill their billboards every week. Also, how much JGR, JRM, Roush, and RCR asking in terms of funding?

A ton of variables.

I did. I concluded that none of them are sponsoring Wallace Jr.

I find that odd, given his youth, personality, ethnicity and previous success, in particular his very successful graduation from the Diversity Program. With a very few exceptions, the guys on your list aren't nearly as good as Wallace and will not succeed at this level, much less the Cup level.

They can get, find, attract dollars by whatever means. He can't. Why not?

Dunno, I would be lying if I wouldn't state the obvious... But it's obvious, I mean David Starr is still landing sponsors. Love the guy, but what has he done for Tri-Star or McLeod Racing?

We will see because winning cures all, right? It should not matter of the race or nationality, sponsors should be attracted to marketability and how successful a person is.
