Jimmie Johnson test positive for Covid-19

But wasn't his wife positive?
I guess it's OK if she is now negative.
That was kinda part of what I was curious about. Now they're saying you can get it twice. Also wondering if he is even staying with his wife at this point

Myself, and a few others, have said this looks like a case of him getting a false positive. Anyone who gets this or around anyone that has it is supposed to self-quarantine for 14 days. If you do have it and have fever as one of your symptoms, you are to remained quarantined for 72 hours after symptoms have left without the aid of medication. Many people that had it continued to test positive for weeks after all symptoms have left. I realize he didn't have any. Which is why I say it was probably a false positive on his first test.

Back on COVID topic......This whole confusion thing pisses me off, and does huge damage. For example, Freaking Dave Moody on NASCAR Radio just sang the virtues of NASCAR and how they have managed the keeping the virus out of the sport with a few exceptions. He compared NASCAR to other sports which are struggling. NASCAR isn't testing anybody if I understand this correctly while the other sports are. NASCAR would have never known about Jimmie if he hadn't initiated the testing....and even then, he could not be forced to disclose the results. Somebody tell me I am wrong.

You're not wrong. They should test everybody at the track every day. Because ... Texas / Florida / Arizona / South Carolina / North Carolina / California.

Probably too busy getting ready to send the kids back to school. JFC

....but, but, but Florida? Didn't they just add another race there? ....and, and, and the Championship is in Arizona?.....and, and, and Texas in a couple of weeks....surely you must have bad information....

You are being silly about schools....Kids don't get this stuff! We are being told up here in WA State that kids will be fine on the bus with masking, no social distancing (because it's not possible), and keeping the windows open. I am not joking. Leaders did acknowledge that the window requirement "might be difficult in the winter."

I have never seen any data on the prevalence. Not saying there isn't any.....just have never seen it.

There are several different tests on the market, and so there is variance. From what I've seen, most are around 3%. False negative rates are higher, especially in the early stages of infection.

Antibody tests, such as the one Johnson is reported to have tested positive for earlier this year, have relatively high false positive rates of around 20%.

It is more likely Jimmie was at the end of his span of the virus...I would not be surprised if he had it at Pocono as well. Chandra had symptoms and tested positive on what, Thursday? When were they tested? How long was she presymptomatic and then symptomatic for?

NASCAR’s “testing” is limited to a temperature check. The prevalence really can’t be determined within the sport.

Well, you see, if you don't test, you don't look bad and show so many cases. It's a double edged sword.
So we’re told.

There aren’t enough edges on the sword. Infected people, particularly those routinely not masking up, shed the virus while they’re waiting for test results. Some of the wait times should be against the law.

Attempted herd immunity, reckless intent, a misdemeanor or Felony depending on distance.
We are on our way. 320 million positives in the U.S. and we should ge good to go. The faster we can spread it, the faster it will be over. <sarcasm>

We are going to have Oklahoma football come hell or high water around here. The Gov has been hinting about that for weeks

Whatever will stick.

I looked up the other day and whooosh! ... half of Oklahoma just disappeared. I trust you’re not in that half. B)

NASCASH needs to get on this program before it's too late.

You have to want to gain understanding even when it is painful. Right now, in NASCAR's world, NASCAR's percentage is pretty close to F1's. Dave Moody would agree. This is an issue. I am hoping that Moody was just being a shill, but honestly, I think he really believes that NASCAR has gotten this right. This worries me because it is probably reflective of society's perception which explains a lot about those graphs, curves, and spikes.

I can't entirely disagree. On one hand, I understand that NASCAR has done a good job of keeping cove it out of the sport. they've made a lot of efforts as the first sport to return to competition with social distancing guidelines. And up until Jimmie Johnson, things have gone successfully. No one in the sport has presented with any viral symptoms, thus there has been no need to to test anyone. So on one hand, you can say that Jimmie's case was a unique circumstance, an exception, and it doesn't reflect the efforts NASCAR has made to prevent the virus from presenting itself in the sport.

However, the fact of the matter which is the point you are trying to get at here, is that Jimmie still tested positive. And you are right. They didn't keep it out of the sport. I don't think this reflects too badly on NASCAR though. I think it just calls for new precautions. If Jimmie never chose to get tested because of his wife, you are right, it would have never been known by anyone. And Jimmie could have spread the virus.

To piggyback off of your point, which I agree with, there are so many variables that NASCAR can't account for. It's a highly contagious virus and the chances are, SOMEONE in the sport was bound to contact it.

I think they safest thing to do is for the drivers and teams to get tested every week.

The only thing I would say is that if all the safety measures (social distancing, masks etc) actually WORK, then nobody in NASCAR has anything to worry about, (As least as far as catching it on the job) right?

That's what I keep saying

Seat belts work, correct? Safety goggles and gloves work when using power tools, correct? This doesn't mean they prevent all harm, and people are injured and die while using them.

Even if a test is 99% correct. They test a million people and 10,000 tests will be wrong and show false positives or negatives. Personally I don't believe any test they have comes close to being that accurate.
