Montoya out of EGR in 2014

no, but he's not accept a lesser ride and there is only one real quality ride left.
That´s what he said. The reason: he knows the car racing business. I consider Montoya a fairly good driver and all he is looking for is a competitive car. Everyone knows the decision to let him go is typical of the way a company is managed. You want to pay less for equal or better talent.

There are 43 cars for 43 drivers. I do believe that Montoya is not the worst of the 43. We will see.

I would not suggest for a second that JPM is the worst of the 43. I see him as a mid 20's driver but over the past 7 seasons he's only won 2 races. In my opinion that does not merit keeping a top quality ride. If he wins this year at Richmond and Dover then it could be a completely different story, but he didn't and no one really remembers who finishes 2nd. I think he's going back to Indy.

Agreed. By no means is he one of the worst. But theres no room for him in a top ride anymore and he's too proud to make less money and drive lower tier equipment.

JPM's driver rating this year (78.2) is 19th-best in Cup and not far off from those of Greg Biffle (82.3), Denny Hamlin (81.8), McMurray (80.1), Newman (79.6), and Stewart (79.0). I think he'll find a ride with a decent team.

I suppose that depends on what your definition of "decent" is. Who do you think will offer him a ride?

Maybe RPM dumps Almirola and corners the market on road course aces with Ambrose and Montoya? I'd laugh that's for sure.

Of the Top 10 drivers in the standings, 2 have not won a race in 2013; Earnhart and Boyer. From 11 to 43 only (4) drivers have won a race this year. One of them, David Ragan, is sitting 26 in the standings; 38 points behind Montoya. Dale Earnhart Jr. has won two races since 2006; Michigan June 2008 and Richmond May 2006. Montoya won rookie of the year in 2007 and has won 2 races since then; Watkins Glen August 2010 and Sonoma June 2007. Jr has not won a race in 5 years.

Soooo ur point is that Jr should lose his ride soon too? Oh wait no... you see theres that one word that comes right after Dale and right before Jr in his name..

I still think he lands at FRR in the #78. I have nothing to really base that off of, it's just my prediction.

My reply was directed to the question of Montoya not winning races.

JR won last year at Michigan and has been running in the top 10 in points for the past 3 seasons now. He may not win a lot but he's found some real good consistency.

I have heard rumour FRR is thinking about starting a second team... maybe both?

That would be cool to see 2 FRR cars. However I think it would be nothing short of an act of God to have Newman and Montoya as teammates. Remember the whole Newman assaulting JPM in the NASCAR hauler fiasco. EGR threatened to sue so NASCAR fined Newman yada yada yada. It sure would be funny though.

I would go even further. This year 12 of the 24 year races have been won by three drivers (5) Kenseth Toyota, (4)Johnson Hendricks, (3) K. Bush Toyota. Then, Kahne Hendricks (2) and Harvick (2). So 75 percent of the races have been won by 5 of the 43 drivers.

What team does he get his car from ?

I give you some stats to think about. This year JPM has 4 top 5's. That's as many or more than Burton(2) Almirola(1) Menard(1) Mcmurray(1) Newman(4) Biffle(3). Yet he trails all of these drivers in points, which I believe speaks volumes about the consistency of his driving.

Same as Montoya.. well the engine anyway.

That´s the point. Montoya sure is getting a better car lately, he has been saying it, and he has been racing the 42 very well. In 2009, EGR found a way to find more down force in the 42 and there is the main reason for Montoya´s performance in 2009. It is all about the car. There has been no 42 car since then.

Hendrick of course, the irony being that most of his success came while NOT driving for Hendrick

Hendricks just this year and it shows. There is more racing left for Montoya and Hendricks Motors this year.

That was also when the ECR engines were arguably the best in the business. RCR and EGR were winning all the plate races if I recall correctly.

It's not like he's being driving junk either. They've had good stuff just not the whole package. Chip seems to think they should be performing better and I think his decision to not bring him back was evidence if that.

As a Team Owner you have the choice of putting whoever you want.

Ganassi says the plan is to run Larson in both Cup and Nationwide next year.

Edit: He also said he wants Kyle to run for the NNS championship.

I did not see Chip convincing. It sounds like he had talent in his organization and decided to make an offer. He also said that Kyle was definitely a TOP DRAFT pick so he could not live with letting this oportunity go. This confirms, that Montoya was let go for someone with potential who would cost him much less than to keep an older warrior like Montoya who had asked for a fair pay. He saves money and in business that is what it is all about.

Also, he knows the cars are much improved so there is not need to pay for a more expensive driver.

Can't wait for this thread to die. lol I'm a montoya fan but this endless debate is tiring.. If he's in Nascar next year, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I like Juan, but it isn't a personality contest. He didn't perform, so he is out. We will probably be talking about Jamie Mac being out next year, if he doesn't start doing better. Hope so, if you are going to be a wheel holder, you better get into the chase with it...lots.
