NASCAR considering radical changes to playoff system

Then you must like wrestling, I'll watch , but I'm going to be watching a lot less than I used to. Time was when I watched every lap, that ended about 5 years ago, basically all you need to watch is the last 50 laps. That's when most of the action happens. I think this "sport" and I now use that term loosely, will sink further into the abyss with all these gimicky changes.
I still watch every lap.

Anyone that's been a fan of the racing will still be there watching. They'll continue to complain like they always have but they'll be there watching. They'll continue to browse the NASCAR message boards as well. We're NASCAR fans. That's what we do.

I find it amazing that someone can say they have no interest in the races before the Chase and still have the nerve to call themselves a "fan". Guess it's the same kind of people who only watch the Superbowl and then pretend they liked the winning team for years.

Inspired by NASCAR's new Chase format, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has announced that the score in the 4th quarter of tomorrow night's Super Bowl will be reset to 0-0 at the two-minute warning.

But if the NFL were to get a bigger market share that is all that matters. We should not worry about frivolous matters like integrity, as long as Brians portfolio benefits.

Some folks must be more into how Nascar looks on Wall Street rather than the track. There only defense is the marketing benefits. How else could the idiocy and poor stewardship be defended.

They should watch a banking reality were they get to count money all day and leave racing alone, it has been dumbed down enough already.

I will continue, for the rest of my life, to call myself a racing fan. Disliking or moving away from Cup racing does not diminish one's fandom of the sport of racing. The "fans" I question are the ones that praise NASCAR all day long but have never set foot at a local track.

About the only thing I complain about anymore is getting up in the middle of the night. ;)

Hopefully it's just the NASCAR series that'll sink into the abyss and not the sport itself. It'd could lead to a new series taking NASCAR's place and is more about improving the product on the track instead of gimmicky changes to the championship points battle.

They can't go to a local track. They might get dirty.

I'd love to see a new series come along and give it a go, but historically those haven't worked well or lasted long. National Sprint Tour tried to replace the World of Outlaws a few years ago after some WoO shenanigans . Even pulled some big names, but lasted only one season. CART/USAC, IRL/ChampCar, etc.

Well honestly I think the series need to build a grassroot base first, start off regionally with local TV contracts and then slowly build up it's product for the national stage.

I didn't like the winner takes all at homestead idea but it hasn't taken long for my excitement to overcome the sense of doom and gloom that permeates nearly every thread these days.

I'm so excited I can't hardly stand myself and in just a few weeks I'll be standing, screaming to the top of my lungs at Daytona.

Our sport will survive, love it or hate it, and I'll be there to help it along.

Just to prove you wrong :p

I do like how the writer says he's abandoning NASCAR for the "real" racing in V8SC. I love that series, not knocking it, but let's not pretend they didn't introduce a couple of "gimmicks" of their own like a new car, halftime breaks, etc. in 2013.

He sums it up pretty good for me. I don't even know who the hell would even think of this idea. I'm still trying to figure out what was wrong with the original system though.

I went a few years without knowing what was going on in NASCAR from 2008-2010.

Guess I'm not a real fan. :(

Compromising Nascar to stick and ball sports playoffs...
