Yeah they ripple effected JGs ass and patted Clint Bowyer on the cheek with a smile, this aint gonna just blow over like Nascars spin doctors thought it would and it's going to be hard to watch CB and MW strut around like nothing happened.

Their decision was basically nothing more than a points update. They let the points do the work for them. There was probably no mathematical way to get Jeff into the Chase. I've only had one cup of coffee so far this morning so I'd be quite taxed trying to resolve this for them.

Exactly.

To the best of my knowledge NASCAR has never changed the outcome of a race, but instead has always issued points and dollar penalties post race.

In effect, they put their blinders on and, in trying to provide a bona-fide deterrent, said this is the penalty for MWR's stunt , whether it happened at Daytona, Richmond, or any race in between.

In keeping with their penalty policy developed over the years, it seems to me that there was nothing they could really do to fully fix the mess.

Gordon got jobbed in the process but he's gotta know that he controlled his own destiny long before Bowyer's spin.
 
They just gotta drop this win wild card thing like I said. Top 12 get in on points alone.

This hasn't happened yet but someone will get a win, be 20th in points and get in while someone who's alot closer in points with no win will get shafted.

Been listening to the press conference last night that is being broadcast on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio this morning. I'm not sure if anyone had posted a link to this yet but I will if I can find it. Very interesting and well explained.

Well, I am very surprised and happy that NASCAR did the right thing in adding Ryan Newman to the chase
and removing Martin Truex.THANK YOU NASCAR

While they fined MWR, the penalties should have been more severe, they never the less will likely send a message that this crap is not welcome in this sport.

This is a big step in the right direction and Mr. Helton and all of NASCAR are to be commended.

I don't exactly get why Newman got his spot back and Gordon didn't. I guess because it would be unfair to Logano, but isn't taking away Truex's spot because of what his teammates did unfair to him as well? NASCAR should've given both drivers their spots back, or neither and kept Truex in. The way I see it, Gordon got screwed.

It's a 50-point penalty, so Newman moved ahead of Truex Jr. in points. They were originally tied and Martin had the tiebreaker advantage.

NASCAR Penalizes Michael Waltrip Racing Following Event At Richmond International Raceway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 9, 2013) – NASCAR has issued penalties to Michael Waltrip Racing following the sanctioning body’s review of Saturday’s race at Richmond International Raceway.

MWR was found to have violated Section 12-4 (Actions detrimental to stock car racing). As a result, MWR’s three teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (No. 15, 55, 56) have been penalized with the loss of 50 championship driver and 50 championship owner points, respectively.

These point penalties are assessed following the season’s 26th regular season race and not after the seeding for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Therefore, the point total for the No. 56 car driven by Martin Truex Jr. is reduced to 691, putting him in 17th position and eliminating him from the second Wild Card berth for the Chase field. Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 39 car, now moves up into the Chase as the second Wild Card participant.

NASCAR has also fined the MWR organization $300,000 and indefinitely suspended Ty Norris, MWR Executive Vice President/General Manager and spotter for the No. 55 car, for violating Section 12-4. The three crew chiefs – Brian Pattie (No. 15), Scott Miller (No. 55) and Chad Johnston (No. 56) – have all been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.

“Based upon our review of Saturday night’s race at Richmond, it is our determination that the MWR organization attempted to manipulate the outcome of the race,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. “As the sport’s sanctioning body, it is our responsibility to ensure there is a fair and level playing field for all of our competitors and this action today reflects our commitment to that.”

This is bull, Nascar has started down a slippery slope. Are they going to review and analyze every on track incident from now on? Start awarding 1st to the 2nd place car because the car finishing 1st did a bump and run to spin a competitor? Jumped the start?
What are the limits? Or is this going to be another "discretionary" call by them?
As if they haven't screwed things uo enough, now this.
 
I think NASCAR did the right thing in taking driver and team points plus imposing the largest fine in NASCAR history. As my mentor used to say, "if you want to get someone's attention, get in their pocketbook."
But NASCAR did not go far enough. They so far have done nothing relating to the Carl Edwards jump on the restart. Might be too late to correct that now but while they did correct one situation, they screwed the pooch on another.

NASCAR is seeing the light and realizing the way of the world if you want to be a respected in big league sport you must have a clear set of rules and punish offenders. All offenders. Kudos to NASCAR for doing the right thing.
 
Promise you this whole Gordon getting screwed outta the chase is gonna be a talking point in the 2014 Daytona 500 & Gordon will use it all to his advantage.
 
I can't wait to see how Newman's crew performs after the verbal flogging Saturday night.
 
All the cheating that happened were symptoms, the disease is The Chase.

I've never felt this bad about stock car racing and I've been a fan since my dad took me to races in the mid-60s.

NASCAR has almost no respect for the fans......it can only get worse.
 
Let's be honest here. This kind of thing has happened for a long, long time. I'm taking about the manipulation of points, not the actual spin that accomplished it. I remember teams fielding more than one car to help secure their driver more points towards the Championship. That was understood by everyone involved, the sanctioning body as well as the attending/viewing public. The only difference here is that they were dumb enough to say it.

This might explain why Bowyer code language to "itch it" wasn't so random. Doesn't mean unintentional spin though.

To confirm: Bowyer was suffering from poison oak this weekend and did receive a steroid shot from NASCAR care center to help pain b4 race.

How Bowyer gets off scot free is a joke.. I loved what Nascar did before I found out it didn't really effect Bowyer. I hope justice is served by anyone on the track and Bowyer is still taken out. Newman now can't risk it but Gordon can. I will be sick if Bowyer somehow wins the title
 
Let's face it, this kind of thing has been happening in the past. The difference now is that we have all this media that allows us to be a part of the racing. We hear everything, see everything. Before, we were limited to what we saw from the stands as fans and the little snippets we were shown on TV. We had no knowledge of what was actually happening.

Also, the rise of multi-car teams has allowed these situations to arise more overtly than in the past.
 
I know people are upset about Gordon but the only thing they could have done with the point structure the way it is, would be to take Bowyer out of the chase and put Gordon in based on points. I don't know why they didn't do that, would be pretty harsh but justified imo.

I just don't like taking Logano out when he was no part of this, had a win and wasn't on MWR's team.. the result was not intended to help him.
 
I'm as big a Gordon fan as anyone, but unfortunately there's no way they can put him in the Chase. You can't bend the rules and add a 13th driver. So who are you gonna boot, Logano? He doesn't deserve that. And as bad as Bowyer screwed up and deserves penalized, booting him from the Chase would be a bit much. Honestly I was surprised they booted Truex for Newman, but NASCAR deserves a pat on the back for doing the right thing.

Look, I want to see Gordon have a shot to get another title, but I don't think this is his year. This gives the 24 team a chance to refocus and start preparing for 2014 while hopefully ending the season on a high note, while also having a chip on their shoulder heading into next year. I think this will be good for Gordon and the team in the long run.

you could if you fined Bowyer enought that his would have been behind Gordon in the standings. However, Nascar said they couldn't prove he spun on purpose so that wasn't going to happen.
