I'm not a fan of it either, but I will predict that within fives years NASCAR will go to it in Cup under the guise of giving the sponsors more exposure on the car.
I think in some cases it will make the car easier to spot on the track. Far away shots especially

If you look close enough, it almost looks like this is a wrap placed over top of his NAPA scheme. There are lines running away from the fender that look to be the same placement. Interesting. It's visible in some of the other photos too.
