NFL 2014

The only recent player I can recall is Schaub?

the offseason before last season there were huge speculation started by a Cleveland radio station that you guys were going to trade for Ben Tate. Many Texans fans were all for it as we knew we were going to lose him anyways. Well either it was just a rumor, or an actual deal fell through, but you guys eventually got him in FA.

Cornerback Joe Haden just signed a 5 year $68 million extension with the Browns. About $28 million of that is fully guaranteed. I'm not sure how I feel about that. He is a great cover corner, there is no question about that, and especially now that they drafted Justin Gilbert to cover the other side they now have a huge advantage at that position. The defensive coordinator can do a lot of things when you have two lock down corners like that. Buster Skrine can now move in to cover the slot receiver, where he is better suited, as well. However, $14 million a year is a big number on the salary cap for the next five years.

If Gordon hadn't screwed them, they very well could have been. I think with Gordon, they are at least an 8-8 team.
They still might be. Cleveland actually has a pretty soft schedule this year: only 5 games against playoff teams from last year, and only two of those are on the road. It'd be nice to see them break that 4-12/5-11 funk they've been in the past six seasons.

You just never know. They look like they may finally have a running game with Ben Tate and the running back and road grater of a guard/tackle they drafted this year as well as the big full back they signed in free agency. Kyle Shanahan has shown that he can run the ball with many different guys. He even turned Alfred Morris from a sixth round pick into a 1,000 yard rusher.

The defense got a lot better with drafting Gilbert and, probably to a lesser degree, Christian Kirksey and Pierre Desir. Adding these guys to the upgrades of Donte Whitner and Karlos Dansby as well as getting a good defensive minded coach in Mike Pettine and his staff of good defensive minds gives me hope for the defense to really make huge strides as well. Losing Josh Gordon definitely makes them less explosive. There is no doubt about that, but Mike Pettine may have taken a lot of the explosiveness out of the offense anyway as he is a defensive guy at heart. Those guys tend to want to pound the ball down your throat and play smash mouth offense and defense. They seem much better equipped for that now.

Yea, I think its clear with the draft they plan on being more of a running team.

Good news is, we might not lose Gordon for the entire season. NFL might be revamping their marijuana punishments before a suspension is handed down.

"The NFL will revamp its drug policy to “significantly increase the threshold for a positive marijuana test and reduce the punishments for violations involving that drug,” according to ESPN.com’s Dan Graziano on Tuesday night, who cited a league source."

I certainly believe that they revamp their policy on marijuana soon. It's really outdated and just doesn't make a lot of sense when you consider that two states have made it legal for recreational use and many others are in the process of doing so and many others have many have made it legal for medicinal purposes and many others are in the process of doing so as well. The NFL has a much bigger problem with alcohol use by it's players than it does with marijuana use by it's players.

However, I think it will be too late to help Josh Gordon. They will say that he failed his test under the old system and will be punished as such.

I really hope for Gordon's sake that they do change the policy soon, either way, though. That dude is a dope smoking fool who just can't stop even when he knows that he can be tested at any time and failing a test could cost him and his team dearly.

Kyle Shanahan is a prodigy. I am so glad he is finally away from his dad. If he had stayed in Houston instead of following his dad in Washington he'd be a head coach by now and Kubes would still be in Houston. Our offense in Houston, especially the passing game, was awesome. Best years Schaub had were when Kyle was there as QB coach and OC. As a Texans and Broncos fan I am envious of the Browns.

NFL revamping their marijuana policies tells me one thing they can't controller the number of players using. Not just regular players either, but high profile players. I am sure if they kept things the same they would see tons of high profile players with full season suspensions.

The problem in Washington sits in the owner's box.

You know, the thing I don't get about Daniel Snyder is that he knows he will have to change the name of his team sooner or later. There is just no getting around it. The only thing he is doing is delaying the inevitable and alienating an awful lot of fans and sponsors in the process. He could change the name and make tons of money now on selling all kinds of new merchandise with the new team name on it and yet he just refuses to do it. It's like he just has this inborn need to be an obstinate jerk and he just can't help himself.

Not to start a Podium type of argument here, but I am glad he isn't. I don't think anyone in the Redskins organization is a racist. It is a name that started during a time where racism wasn't a big deal. It is a name with tons of history in arguably the worlds biggest organized sport, yeah yeah I know FIFA... People need to step up against all of this PC bull**** going around. Every day there is a new apology for something so stupid. Just let the name stand, as of now it doesn't stand for racism IMHO.

Browns pick up Miles Austin. He can't keep a good hamstring so I wouldn't expect much.

I can't help but think OWN's Michael Sam documentary series will be a distraction for the Rams. This is taking it a bit too far.

Everybody gets all excited for training camp and preseason until they remember how ungodly ugly preseason football is to watch. It's got to be worse than watching Amish porn. Let me know when the real season starts.

Yeah I watch a few plays in preseason and I'm done. There is a reason a lot of those guys never start. As far as a fantasy league goes, I really suck at those. LOL

I hadn't even caught this until now. The television coverage for the Playoffs is considerably different.

Wild Card Saturday will now be split between ESPN and NBC. In the past, it's been on NBC. Sunday's games will be on FOX and CBS.

NBC will be airing one of the AFC Divisional Playoff games this year - taking away a game from CBS. NBC gets a divisional round game through 2022 - likely alternating each year between AFC and NFC.

I like it. This means there will only be one B-list production during the playoffs.

Also, CBS produces all the Thursday Night Football games, not just the eight games that are shown on CBS, and ESPN has the Pro Bowl through 2022.

Monday Night Football will now have an 8:30pm kickoff, cutting about 15 minutes from Monday Night Countdown. ESPN has two preseason games this year: Jacksonville vs. Chicago and Manziel vs. Washington.
