Offseason topic.... If you could erase one rule from the MENCS rulebook, what would it be and why?

Most racing series don't stop a race to get in a commercial o_O Moto-Gp for instance
Your right and yet all you read about here is commercials commercials commercials.
You could have commercial free but I doubt many would use "Pay Per View"

I don't see why they have a commitment cone, or why they keep the pits closed, a car should be able to come in whenever. It would jack things up a bit.
They have a commitment cone because drivers were making stupid moves and nearly wrecking the field. Not closing the pits is an unfair advantage to cars that just happen to be on the turn three-turn four end of the track when the caution flies.

Out of fairness I won't say anything about the 2019 car rules...yet.

Playoffs are the biggest one for me. Especially the current knockout/one-race championship iteration. I can live with stages, knockout qualifying, even plate races, but playoffs are the worst.

That's the breaks, let the race unfold naturally. This BS started when Brian decided to protect the top 25 cars. That makes the race a phony and is probably one of the reason fans have left. TO MUCH CONTROL OVER THE RACE. I drove 24 hours to Daytona spent 3 weeks there at the track most days and the driver I wanted to see most Dale E. crashed out on the back stretch 1 st lap. That was my tough luck. Should Nascar have thrown a red flag so he could get in a backup car? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Nascar has to let go controlling the race and let them race and let the chips land where they may.

Arbitrarily stopping a race for 10 minutes or so while counting laps run under yellow so commercials can be run seems goofy.

Uh, closing the pits goes back about 1990, before anyone ever heard of Brian France. That was part of what was implemented after the Melling crewman was killed on pit road. Closing the pits and the pit road speed limit all came in about the same time. For a short period of time, cars 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc pitting on one lap under caution, and the even cars pitted on the next lap. That didn't last but a few weeks.

seems to work pretty well for IMSA I've noticed

amend the uncontrolled tire rule, total B.S. penalty, has done nothing but screw up the race. As long as they are in the pit box it's good

I couldn't agree more!
This crap cost Blaney last year and the explanation about who got penalized and who didn't was worse than the penalty itself.
It seems as the year went on those penalties tapered off.

Out of bounds at Daytona and Dega...if not, then it should be apply to every track.

Another one that I agree wholeheartedly with!
It seems to me that this was implemented after Ricky Rudd whined because Gordon pulled off the move going into the turn. It was supposed to reduce wrecks. LOL
Waaaaayyyyy too arbitrary!

Regan Smith should have 1 more win and Tony should have 1 less if memory serves

Playoffs, ahead of even the plate races I abhor. Every other change that's been introduced since I started watching the sport in '95 is tolerable, including stages, points systems, qualifying, wave-arounds, GWCs, etc. Playoffs, playoffs, playoffs.

Playoffs.

Given your disdain for the plate races, I had always assumed you had seen some before the change.
If you haven't already, you should check a couple out. And with full speed pitstops! They were a thing of beauty!

The stage racing need to be modified IMO.
after Daytona this year, I don't know what the haters will come up with when they aren't using a restrictor plate anymore. I'm sure they will come up with something, they work hard at it. The stages have stopped the riding around in the back waiting for the end of the race before making your move on the super speedways, but on the other hand the road courses need to lose it.

Sorry, I've seen replays of full speed stops. They're okay at All-Star qualifying when there's only one car on pit road at a time. Otherwise they're a deadly accident waiting to happen.

First off commercials are 30 second bursts with the main sponsor getting less than 2 minutes
at any one time. Quit forwarding and time the commercials.
Besides at many races laps are about 30 seconds so you would only miss a lap occasionally.
Rutledge and Burton eat up more laps than any commercials ever could.

With the plates gone, I may not have anything to hate about the two MegaBrobdingnagians, or need to.

NASCAR stated that the tapered spacer package will produce a similar style of racing. Otherwise all of the plate racing enthusiasts would be upset, right? It could be marginally better because the cars will have slightly higher horsepower.

The out of bounds rule has caused more wrecks than drivers going unto the dirt NASCAR Heat style, not to mention its never been enforced on a consistent basis. For a rule that was made in the interest of safety(despite the yellow line playing no role and Dale Sr.'s fatal accident) that's a pretty crappy record.

a whole lot of ignorance and mis-understanding between the characteristics of a restrictor plate and a tapered spacer. The flow characteristics are night and day difference Min Dia, to Min Dia.

They are marginally different iterations of the same concept, not radically different. Which is why one can easily replace the other.

NASCAR was quite clear in their comments that they expect the racing at Daytona and Talladega to remain very similar. I'm slightly intrigued by what differences will be produced, but I'm not waiting with bated breath for night and day differences.

I have been on record as saying that it is quite ironic that those two tracks may be the only places where the new package is an improvement.

lol. The out of bounds rule keeps more wrecks from happening then allowing cars to run down on the flat, thats just a fact. The yellow line rule had nothing to do with Earnhardts death.

I know you have the bandwidth to watch this. The same Diameters are used on the above demonstration

The difference between an orifice and a nozzle

And racing nerd stuff. An article that goes in depth about Nascar and the tapered spacer

So....... This just happened to be Moody’s “driving topic” last night.
Coincidence?
I think not!

I'm sorry I brought it up, even peripherally. My apologies to all for the unintentional derailing.

If I’m not mistaken this arbitrary rule was not put in place because of an actual wreck but because of the “possibility“ of a wreck.
Correct me if I’m wrong.

Its both, a lot of drivers were running down under the line and when they got to the corner they had to force thier way back up or miss it. Wrecks did occur but also the ones that could have but didnt clearly showed that we shouldnt race down there.

Ehhhh.….
It hasn't stopped wrecks from occurring. Just when the wrecks happen.
I have to agree with 2019Penske. It's probably caused as many wrecks as it's avoided.

What wreck did it cause? How can you count the wrecks it avoided?

Honestly I'd open the car back up a little bit, let the garage crew have a bit more freedom in setting up the car. NASCAR rules are so tight nowadays that it's almost a IROC series.
