Race thread: 102nd Indy 500

He's an ******* and a terrible racer for the most part. He's good on ovals, but I remember the days where he was three-four seconds off the pace.

Got to meet him a couple of times and I was not impressed by his personality.
There is a reason he only runs the ovals. He sucks, he never had top ten points finish even when he ran full-time
I'll take an American sprint car driver anyday. This series should be based around ovals, if you want a bunch of road courses and road course specialists watch F1

I truly believe if Danica stayed in Indy Car she would have had a pretty good career, and maybe another win or two. She seemed to understand these cars way better. Her NASCAR career isn't much to ring home about but her career in Indy Car is pretty good IMHO.
Agreed. She would have been better off staying in Indy. NASCAR was never the place for her. It shows comparing her Indy stats to her NASCAR stats

I'm not able to watch the race but I have 2 guys texting me details of it and they both said she was really loose and didn't have much downforce.
Downforce is relative, they have plenty built in, but not as much as last year. I wasn't talking about her specifically. In other words you don't see an Indycar doing a broad slide sideways smoking the tires like a Nascar, they snap around and there is no saving them for the most part.

Just noticed that Sage Karam is in the race - so TK doesn't have to worry about the race going caution-free to the end ;)

Max downforce with last year's superspeedway aero was 3,000 pounds, so maybe mid-high 2000's in max downforce this year. They aimed to trim down to around 2,150 pounds for qualifying last weekend if that gives you an idea.

He thinks the characteristics of the race is different this year..uh yeah..aero push, can't draft up and hard as hell to pass..it's organic.:D

First time I remember seeing a methanol fire where you could see flames.

I think they put an additive in it these days so they can see the fire. I remember when A.J. Foyt had a fire in the pits at the DuQuoin State fairgrounds track back in the day - luckily they had a boat racing oval in the infield so A.J. jumped out of the car and jumped into the water - they didn't know he was on fire.

Oops, better answer above.

I just had the chance to watch it on youtube and it looked like she just got loose and the backend shot around. No saving that one. She did a good job keeping her hands off of the steering wheel during the hits. That probably saved her some broken wrists. I'm just glad she has finished her racing career in good health.
