SILLY SEASON 2018

Wouldn't be surprised to see Kasey turn to dirt full-time. If my Cup option is to try to mentor Gallagher with a start-up Hendrick C-team...I think I'll pass. But I don't know what Kasey's priorities are.

Bruh, just... No man, no.

I'd rather see Gallagher stay in Xfinity until he gets better, no way in hell he should be in Cup next year. If so, we have a new caution flag with his name on it.

If Danica does not stay in Cup, I wonder if Custer will get promoted...

One thing some folks don't seem to take into consideration with drivers and contracts are the contingencies involved. There is no way drivers are signed to open ended contracts that guarantee employment for the stipulated period in the contract. I am sure most drivers contracts are are contingent upon the team having a guaranteed number of races sold to sponsors for a guaranteed amount. There could also be performances clauses and other codicils that allow the team to walk away from the driver at any moment.

You bring up a valid point. Drivers like Kahne, Kenseth and perhaps Kurt Busch and Danica Patrick likely will have to decide if it is even worth pursuing an inferior cup ride at a fraction of the remuneration they used to receive.

Looks like nearly half dozen new drivers for next season. This is going to be the biggest group of changes I've ever seen.

1. Kenseth-Done-Retires
2. Kurt Busch--Pending deal with SHR but waaaaaaay less money--Or may be done.
3. Khane-Done at Cup level
4. Danica-Done racing-Period-Lots of other business interests-curious how many races she goes to next season?
5. Who else?
6. Bring Cale back!

I would like to see Byron in the 5 car. Looking at who Hendrick has influence with, Allgaier and Sadler are two drivers who could move to cup for a short term if time was needed for Byron to mature as a driver. Allgaier would be my wild guess for a short term solution, he's driving better than I have ever seen him drive.

Sadler............:XXROFL::XXROFL::XXROFL::XXROFL::XXROFL::XXROFL::XXROFL:

Now that there are at least three veteran free agents, you can't help but wonder who will be the odd man out. The quality rides are almost all full. I have a feeling we will see a Greg Biffle retirement out of atleast one of these guys.

The odd man out will be whoever doesn't bring a sponsor.

Personally I don't see any of these guys bringing sponsors with them. The last sponsor following happened I believe was Harvick with Budweiser and Jimmy John's other than Bowyer and 5 hour energy last season but they didn't follow him to SHR.

It is possible we see lots of short term driver deals until the market sorts out what sponsorships are actually worth. Kraft/Velveeta and RCR say that number is $175,000 per race to be a primary sponsor.

Danica Patrick's future is pretty simple, much like many others

And in an interview with USA TODAY Sports on Saturday at Watkins Glen International, she seems at peace with the prospect.

Various outlets have reported that SHR had begun negotiations with Patrick to extricate itself from the final year of her contract, but the situation isn’t even that complex, Patrick said.

“There’s no buyout needed,” she said. “I don’t have a sponsor. It’s contingent on the sponsor.”

Kasey Kahne was the same story, he lost both of his sponsors at the end of this year.

Kurt could go race Indycar. He'd have to take a pay cut just like he will have to do if he wants to stay in NASCAR. I wonder if he'll do that? I think he'd do pretty well over there. Kasey Kahne leaving HMS shouldn't have surprised anyone. HMS started dumping his items in the clearance section of their website over a year ago along with Jeff's leftovers.

Ryan Newman and Velveeta Announce Sponsorship and Sweepstakes

While monetary details of the sponsorship were not announced, it is clear that the two entities have worked together and are providing tremendous activation, mainly in the form of giveaways
Velveeta joins a host of other sponsors on Newman’s №31 Chevrolet, including: Caterpillar, Grainger and Kalahari Resorts & Conventions.

Yeah many of the talking heads are talking up Byron, makes sense to me. Looking at Jr's Xfinity teams I could see bringing Allgaier in for what a year? Doesn't make sense, Might take Byron a couple years before he gets going, but looking at his past he continues to stand out with no experience.

FWIW the deal has Velveeta paying about $175K per race. That's less than JTG & Germain charge, and around what Front Row charges. Better than nothing though...

If plane boy wants to race in cup and his dad thinks so to cup he will go. They already have an alliance with Hendrick so it isn't out of the realm of possibility. If they do go to cup, their history is to bring along at least one more driver to the team. They have done that in Xfinity and the trucks so far FWIW.

The current market virtually ensures that Carl Edwards will not come back to NASCAR IMO. He would have to really love to driver, and I don't see that in him.

I think when Carl walked away from Nascar he slammed the door as he wanted to do other things. He ain't coming back for peanuts for sure though.

I can't recall another one quite like it....... and..... we still have quite a ways to go........

Yeah, still have Buescher's situation to be solved for 2018. I've read an article talking about a possible RPM/RCR merger. Front Row has a 3rd charter for 2018 out on loan this season, not sure how that will turn out. Still room for alot more silliness.

I wonder if at some point there will less cars on the grid then charters?

I thought the last I heard, Ford wanted him in a Chevy. Roush has an unused charter. :idunno:

I dug this up, news to me. I'll believe it when I see it.

Right now, Roush has said the plan would be to get three teams started back again in 2018 and me go back there."(Motor Racing Network). Roush Fenway Racing has scaled to a two-car team (#6-Bayne and #17-Stenhouse Jr.) with the #16 team being shut down for a season and the #16 Charter being leased by JTG Daugherty Racing's #37 team for 2017.

RFR are suddenly going to pull funding out of thin air?

Kasey Kahne to IndyCar you heard it here first
I know Rick was not sold on the idea of him running the 500 (or Las Vegas 2011) when he proposed it. Not an issue anymore.

It would be a shame if the airplane man or Ryan Reed get Cup rides just because of their backing.

This is the wildest silly season I can ever remember!
Its the backlash of all the good young talent out there.
I bet Hendicks just cut his payroll by 60% with Jr. and Kahne gone.
