SILLY SEASON 2018

A rare example of Jayski back in the rumor business, from whence it came...

...I dont hate it. That team has really been improving this year I can see Kasey doing for them what Kurt Busch did for Furniture Row.

Interesting rumor, I could see it happening I suppose.

Damn, I like McDowell. I'd like to see what he could do in good equipment. Also like Cassil, hate to see him lose his ride...

Kahne just needs to retire.

Wonder if GMS is still going to cup? Maybe with Toyota and Kenseth now?

So let me try and put this NASCAR silly season in NFL terms:
  • Peyton Manning (Dale Jr.) announces his retirement at the end of the season
  • The stalwart backup Trevor Siemien (Alex Bowman) is promoted to replace him, despite some controversy
  • Matt Stafford (Brad K.) was rumored to replace Peyton, but ultimately signs huge contract extension with Lions (Penske)
  • Meanwhile Brock Osweiler (Kasey Kahne) is traded to the Browns (LFR) in exchange for prospects and support (HMS engines) just to dump his albatross of a contract
  • The Chiefs (JGR) draft and bring up a young Pat Mahomes (Eric Jones) in 2017 to develop for one year behind aging game-manager veteran Alex Smith (Matt Kenseth), before ultimately replacing him in 2018
Any other ones?

If that happens I wonder where JTG Daugherty would stand. I'm curious to see what they do going forward
So much riding on whether not something may or may not happen, I play that same game to if were to win the lotto that I never play and what I might do with that money

I think what would happen if Dodge were to come back, and RCR were to flip , that all the current Chevy teams would move up one notch, so lets say JTG is the in fourth spot in line , they would now be 3rd, but of course, I am just guessing, thinking what would happen logically if you will.

JTG has an affiliation with RCR, which has helped them grow. I wonder what impact an RCR manufacturer switch would have on their relationship. Follow them to Dodge, stick with Chevy and find a new partner, decide to run on their own, etc

I kind of forgot about them having the affiliation with RCR for some reason, I guess it would all come to down the level of the support that Chevy would give them compared to the support if any FCA would give them.

I think RCR could continue support if/when they switched to Dodge. They have their own engine shop so they would need more than 4 cars of their own.

If Dodge returns with RCR, it would allow them to have a presence in all three series. I imagine a lot of the teams they sell engines to would see a benefit to switching. I would like to see JTG switch.

Exactly, I'd like to see them switch too it be nice for dodge to start with 6 cars rcr petty/Germain/jtg

McDowell can't hold Kahne's jock.

No more 5 next year. HMS announced Willy B will drive the 24 and Chase Elliott will drive the 9.

I don't understand why Elliott wasn't put in the 9 to begin with. Petty said they could have it. Not a big fan of Bowman, guess I won't be actively cheering for the 24 after this year.

You mean Byron? Bowman will be in the 88

I gotta agree with Edsel on this. The Mustang could be a badass Cup car like the new Camaro will be, and hopefully an improvement in aero performance as well...

Edsel Ford II in favor of Mustang in Cup
Coming on the heels of Chevrolet announcing it will field its Camaro brand in NASCAR’s top tour, race fans have been vocal about Ford’s muscle car joining the ranks as well.

The great-grandson of Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford said that, while he’s not the decision maker for the racing arm of the manufacturer, personally he feels that having a Mustang race alongside the Camaro “would be wonderful.”

“I don’t know what we’re going to do yet, but I think it’s the right play,” Ford told motorsport.com at the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Tuesday. “I think Mustang ought to be our race car — much like Camaro is General Motors race car. So, it seems to me that would be appropriate.” ( Link )

Like I predicted when Paul Menard was announced for the Wood Brothers 21. Although I thought Menard sponsorship might show up on the 2 rather than the 12.

I had figured it was going to the 12 but I knew it was going to Penske also for sure.
