SILLY SEASON 2018

That is pocket change for John Menard...would not even dent the .3 out of his 9.3 Billion dollar cash stash.
Wealthy or otherwise, why in hell would John Menard find or provide sponsorship dollars for a competitor rather than slapping it on Penske cars.

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Really? Do you invest all your money into one stock...or do you divest to both limit your losses and expand your opportunity for success?

John has done that in Indy cars...he is also extremely adept at getting his vendors to cough up advertising dollars...like paint manufacturers and insulation manufacturers that Menard has brought to racing and not necessarily on the cars of the team Paul is on. Matt Crafton certainly is not in the RCR stable, nor is he with Penske. Playing the field lowers the odds and increases the potential for success.

John Menard is not spending money on people that compete against his own son. He's a weird guy, but not that crazy.

Guess you would have to personally know him, to know that he would do it in a heartbeat, if he thought it would motivate his kid further.

Neither is Matt Crafton a competitor.

Not happening.

Petty signs multi year sponsor deal.

I saw news about this about three weeks ago, Grunt Style is a sponsor, but it will be a fraction of what Smithfield will bring in.

Still good news and Grunt Style has some kickass apparel. It basically defines 'Murica.

I thought RPM was looking for primary sponsors not associates for selected races?

Good sponsor for bubba

Glad to see it happen, hope it entices more companies to get behind Bubba.
Enough associate sponsors can make a team profitable enough to run every race.
Bubba did a good job in today;s race.

Adam Stern reports that Front Row Motorsports is also working on signing Bubba Wallace, in addition to RPM's efforts to do the same. IMO it seems like a lateral move versus being unemployed, but that's just me. (Just kidding, sorta.)

FRM is better than nothing imo....look at buescher they have launched his career to super stardom ;)

Kasey Kahne has signed to drive the 95... just heard this announced on SiriusXM radio.

EDIT: found a tweet...

Well Kahne's history has shown he has done well with smaller teams. The 95 has run well at times this year and if they run any Hendrick stuff they might do alright. Sucks for McDowell tho. He has run well in that car this year

No mention of "multi-year" so probably a one year deal...

Kasey Kahne will drive Leavine Family Racing No. 95 in 2018

Leavine Family Racing announced Tuesday that 18-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series winner Kasey Kahne is coming aboard as the organization’s new driver beginning next season.

It will be the fifth organization for Kahne, the 2004 Rookie of the Year. His current team, Hendrick Motorsports, revealed last month that Kahne would not return in 2018.

“I feel like (Leavine has) really made a lot of gains in the past couple years,” Kahne told NASCAR.com of his new team. “It’s pretty cool to watch, any time you see a small team do what they’ve done in our sport.

“The opportunity will be a challenge, but also a lot of fun. I enjoy a challenge and I enjoy working with people. The best part about it is us all being a team and trying to improve every single weekend and learning from what we do one week and improving the next. I think that’s something we’ll be able to do. And I’m really excited about it.”

“After Indy I really saw his confidence level rise,” team co-owner Bob Leavine told NASCAR.com. “That was great for him. I told him, ‘You are going to be the guy here, the star on our stage and you don’t share it with anyone.’ And the experience he brings will help our guys’ confidence.”

The Leavine Family Racing team has one top-five finish this season, a fourth-place run from McDowell at the summer night race at Daytona. McDowell currently is 25th in the points standings.

“Michael is a personal friend of mine and I love him dearly,” Leavine said. “He spoke to the group this morning and said how much he appreciated the support and being a part of this family. He’s a class act and a professional. He’ll always be a part of this family.”

Leavine said he’s currently looking at the right crew chief to pair with Kahne and is open to reuniting Kahne with people he has worked with previously.

Leavine also confirmed the team will again partner with Richard Childress Racing and the ECR engine program.... ( Link )

So I guess it's basically going to be the same car with the ECR program

A little underwhelming but he hasn't really earned himself a top shelf ride. Would probably get more out of the car than Ragan and Cassill though.

Kasey Kahne was my wife's favorite back when she followed NASCAR.KK seems to do better with small teams, happy for him and his fans.

I'm so confused where do people get this "better with small teams" he was in the 9,4,5....redbull was a major team....were talking Redbull here

Every Cup team he drove for was a major team, he started with Evernham Motorsports, then that became Gillett Evernham Motorsports, then it became RPM, then he went to Red Bull Racing , and then to HMS, I am very curious where the all these small teams are they he drove for in Cup

I believe that people are saying that Kasey does better when he is the top dog on a "lesser" team.

He is bottom of the food chain at Hendrick and has been the entirety of his stint there.

More or less, this seems to be the case. It's been great seeing Kahne in the 5, but the performance just hasn't been great. I was tired of seeing my driver finish in 'Danica Land' consistently when he should have been up in the top 10. Honestly, moving to the 95 probably isn't going to help get better finishes, but if this means that he's helping a smaller team grow, I can live with that and am okay if he's finishing 15th or so. Obviously, I'd love to see him in the top 10, but realistically, that's probably going to take some time and a lot of work to get there.

One other point though... Hendrick is paying Kahne for 2018 as well, so, I hope this isn't just a one year deal and then Kahne is gone.

It's all semantics, but I break it down this way. The current Tier One teams are JGR, Hendrick, SHR and Penske. FRR is a Tier two on the cusp of Tier one, BUT being a single car team with an alliance holds them back from that designation. Roush and RCR are Tier two teams that used to be Tier ones, the Woods have been Tier two lately. JTG would be a Tier three, and you go down to about Tier five. RPM was a two, now pretty much a three, Red Bull never got above two, nor did Evernham.

Yeah ... are you sure the 5 wins aren't holding them back?

Where, in your opinion, does Kyle Larson's team rank?

I realize that Kasey is moving down several notches from where he is.... but.... I keep in my mind where Furniture Row was when Kurt got his ears clipped and moved ''down'' to that team..... what a difference it made to that team ...... and to him..... look at Furniture row now.... Kurt and Truex..... Truex was stagnant at MWR....

Maybe this is what Kasey needs........ also might be what the 95 team needs........ could work out the best for everyone........

As I said, FRR is almost a Tier one in my mind. Their performance certainly qualifies them, BUT, being only a single car team next year and the help they get from Gibbs puts them a notch lower in my opinion. No disrespect to them. Oops, forgot about ole Floyd. Ganassi is a two, always has been. They would probably have to add a top ten running third team to be a one in my mind.

Was hoping Kasey was going to sign with RCR and fill that 27. I think the 95 will be a good opportunity for him, wonder if this keeps open his chance of running the Indy 500 and some Indy races in 2018

With this a 15th is like a win, I think it will be a good place for him
