SILLY SEASON 2018

http://nascar.nbcsports.com/2015/03...n-the-xfinity-series-report-sheds-some-light/

This article is old, but Lily's is reportedly paying 5 million a year. Advocare is probably in that same ball park.

With Bubba's primary sponsors in Leidos and Globe Life, I could imagine if it's similar to the cost of Velveeta, probably less because of it being for the Xfinity team.

I'd love to see more information on sponsors costs.

FWIW the deal has Velveeta paying about $175K per race. That's less than JTG & Germain charge, and around what Front Row charges. Better than nothing though...
Thanks for the insight! Interesting and from what others have posted, seems low.

It could be that Jack is fed up with the way John Henry is running things. Jack is for winning races and John is for taking profits. Henry is in charge of sponsors and they haven't done well in many a year.

I have seen you mention this before about John Henry, but I never have seen you post a source. Mind posting it? As much as I can tell John Henry has as much love from Racing as any of the other owners.

Here is an official document of the people named and hired to run specific departments. (2015)

Notice all the credentials ( The team has named Brian Cleek as senior vice president of sales and business development. Cleek brings over 12 years of proven partnership development experience, having worked for some of the most successful properties in professional sports, including the NFL, the New York Giants, ESPN, the Harlem Globetrotters and most recently the PGA of America and Ryder Cup.)
I guess those other sports are easier than Nascar because he can't seem to get minor sponsors to keep a team on the track.

Okay? You named one guy, which proves nothing against John Henry, and that "John is in it for the profits."

Hope
Blaney to a third Penske team.

Maybe Bubba to the 21 (wild ass speculation).

The article is pretty frustrating first of all the writer obviously doesn't know that Blaney is already contracted Penske driver they act like they're trying to court him like any other driver. And second of all it doesn't say anywhere where Blaney is actually leaving the Wood Brothers.

BREAKING: ERIC JONAS TO LEAVE FURNITURE ROW AT END OF SEASON
DANIELBALOR
JUNE 8, 2017

According to sources,”Team Owner Gibbs said he would like to bring Eric Jonas into the Team Gibbs fold as soon possible, which would entail adding another car to his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team.”

When asked about if it could happen next season, Gibbs responded with, well see, which could mean he is already in the process of courting the young driver to his championship winning race team.

LOL

Nice work.

Anything about firing Rodden before the entire season is lost for the 5?

If you put a gun to my head TODAY...as in right this second...and told me to make a prediction, I would say that next season Erik's in the 20 and Matt's in the 5 (and it wasn't Matt's decision to leave). I'm more confident about Erik in the 20 than Matt going to the 5...but I'm not willing to guarantee either scenario. Things are still extremely cloudy.

I'd like to see Matt finish out his career in the #20 the next few years , but I could live with a move to the 5. I think Matt and Jimmie Johnson are very good friends these days (bike buddies), so seeing him finish up over there with a quality organization would be sweet. Matt has been praised by Joe Gibbs for being an excellent teammate, so there would be some value in that for Hendrick. It sure seems JGR will need to make a move soon to get Jones into his permanent spot, and unfortunately Matt may be the one to get forced out. It sure seems like Gibbs and Kenseth are super tight, but at the end of the day it is a business, and Joe needs to plan for the future. I'd like to see at least two more high quality seasons out of Matt.

K not bankrupt, but this tax lien could finish them off though.

It might. Or not ... half a mill is 1/4 of what they spend every month. Devine might have to cut a personal check to the IRS, which he likely would rather not do.

More trouble at BK racing today gray gaulding stated on Twitter that he will not drive the car this weekend. Because of money.

Gaulding who used to have Krispy Cream for a sponsor is down the road. I wonder if Lajoie is gone also
enter Ryan Sieg been around for a while, moving up from the Xfinity series. If nothing else he knows how to race on a budget.

Some people thought he would go to the 88, I didn't personally.

IMO the most logical explanation for Keselowski's uncertain contract status is that Miller Brewing is pulling out of Nascar or sharply reducing their support. Without that happening, I would have expected a contract renewal six months ago. So my guess is the delay comes from the complexity and difficulty of lining up alternate funding for the 2 team.

USA Today:
He said on a Tuesday conference call he hopes to have something in place ‘’very, very soon. … (team owner) Roger (Penske) has given me a lot and I have no reason to not want to stay with him.”

That would seem to rule out a switch to Hendrick Motorsports and the pending vacancy in the No. 88 Chevrolet once Dale Earnhardt Jr. steps away from full-time racing at the end of this season.

But Keselowski admitted in thinking about his future — one he wants to share with wife Paige and daughter Scarlett — one key conversation already has taken place. And that’s the one surrounding concussions.

“Right now, you'd be almost foolish to be an athlete in sports who has a wife and kids and not have the concussion discussion as a family,” Keselowski said. “Because we're all seeing that quite frankly there are athletes out there that are either dying or suffering severe loss of quality of life in the latter years of either their career or so forth. …

“I've had that conversation with my wife and family, and I feel good about continuing to go on and do all those things in the latter years of my career.”

Keselowski, 33, wants to add to his 2012 championship and 23 career Cup wins. He believes he has about 10 years left in which he can perform at a high level....

I know this is the last year of Miller beer contract with the 2 car,I hope something can get done.Ever since I started following NASCAR,it's been Miller and the 2 car.I understand the business side of it,marketing is about demographics and value for the money you spend. It still sucks.

I'm a little bummed reading this today. I don't associate my racing interests by following a certain driver at this point... after rusty being out and then a few others in the last 10 years after him, I enjoy things from a more "overall" view point. It's more fun that way now.

But I always like looking at the miller brewing/millercoors #2 because to me it's still "rustys car". I am not happy about the idea miller is backing away...

Kez is "my driver" and I have been worried about the Miller sponsorship for a long time due to the change in ownership of Miller Brewing. I certainly hope my speculation about Miller proves to be wrong. It's just that I know how corporate acquisitions lead to intense scrutiny of every budgetary line item. There is a lot of new debt to service, blah, blah. My fingers are crossed for good luck.

I've heard speculation about various teams contracting next year, maybe shuttering the 10, or the 77, or who knows what others. Now at least one writer is whispering about the 5. I don't know much about Jordan Bianchi at SBNation, and I'm not vouching for his article that suggests Rick Hendrick's juggernaut team may be in danger of running aground. Personally, I doubt the sky is falling at HMS. For your review...

Hendrick Motorsports facing uncertainty with key driver and sponsorship decisions looming
Industry speculation has Hendrick contemplating buying out the final year of Kahne’s contract and contracting to three full-time teams. Such a move would allow Hendrick to accommodate for the sponsorship shortfall it’s experiencing and better concentrate its resources, allowing Johnson, Elliott, and whomever replaces Earnhardt to have results without wide-ranging disparity...

Hendrick was dealt another blow when general manager Doug Duchardt announced Tuesday he is leaving after 12 years with the team. The former General Motors executive will work through the end of June.

With Duchardt in a leadership role, Johnson won all seven of his championships and Hendrick supplied chassis and engines to Stewart-Haas Racing, which captured titles in 2011 and 2014. Hendrick will not fill Duchardt’s position, instead having his responsibilities dispersed among three team executives.

The exact reason why Duchardt is leaving remains unclear; a curious move coming at a crucial juncture with Earnhardt’s replacement needing determination, a driver to possible release, and additional sponsors to woo.

Less ambiguous is the mounting evidence signifying that these are interesting times at Hendrick and that the organization accustomed to dominating on and off the track is finding it difficult to do either. (SBNation)

Dang. What's with the notable personnel leaving Hendrick? I wonder if it's something related to that particular team, or the state of NASCAR as a whole.... then again it could be nothing. People leave jobs for various reasons everywhere.

There will definitely be some pain and confusion while the market sorts out what the real numbers are for associating with Nascar. I know Sprint used to pay 75 million per year (about 3 top team sponsorships) and Monster pays 20 million and it was also reported that the Velveeta brand is paying 175,000 per race to be Ryan Newman's sponsor. On one hand taking half a loaf or less is better than taking no loaf at all but the flip side of this is that you set the market with these lower prices and it has a ripple effect. If Post Cereal wanted to sponsor Kurt Busch for 5 races do you think they would pay more than 175K per race?

I said yesterday that I don't think less money flowing to the teams is necessarily a bad thing as it could lead to a less gimmicky stripped down version of what we have today. Some drivers and teams will be drummed out of the series and there will be movement of drivers and personnel and hopefully a lot of pink slips for engineers.....:D

These are my opinions. If you don't like them or disagree with them that is 100% cool.
