yeah he's a big part of our success here at Joe Gibbs (cough Toyota) racing and we just love him, love his family.
 
I think Gibbs made the right call with Jones over Kenseth. It is what it is ... old driver vs. young up and comer. Matt's lack of a strong partnership with a sponsor really hurt him. If Matt had a connection like Denny has with Fed Ex he'd still be in that #20 car for years to come.

What was your image? Honestly, I was talking about those who worship a guy based on a positive interaction....but I suppose it could work both ways. My apologies. Didn't intend to be offensive, but I understand how you took it.

Yup....and I am certain that most dislikers here are smart enough to understand that, but the disliking shines through.
 
I'd be more angry with coach Gibbs if he would have dumped Matt with years remaining on the deal. Coach actually found a way to let Matt finish up his current deal this season when he worked out a deal to loan out Jones. I don't think Matt feels unfairly treated .. just wasn't happy with having to keep his mouth shut and pretend that he was good into the future with JGR.

Holy **** dude to imply that Coach didn't give a **** about his players is over the top. His own kid is in very bad shape because of this kind of stuff.
 
If (big if) SHR does not pick up the option on Kurt...does that clear the way to negotiate a NEW contract with "modern day reality" terms?*

I won't endorse some of your rhetoric, Pete, but I do agree that Joe Gibbs has been very judgmental - and always in favor of his drivers - when they have been involved in on-track shenanigans. He is an enabler of Hamlin's attacks on Logano, and Kenseth's attack on him too. I think he is a hypocrite. And I never would have said that five years ago about Pious Joe.

Did his kid play for him or another team owner that was there for the money and just discard bodies as they fell? They have known for many years about this brain damage. Like I said still not sure how common the knowledge back in Coaches day but they did know something.
With all that is known today, Junior still stepped back into the car. $300 million wasn't a big enough cushion????? Isn't greed a great motivator?
 
I hate concussion talk. Those NFL players know the risk same as a driver does. It's of my opinion that it should be in their contracts that they acknowledge the risk of injury and won't bring a lawsuit against the league once they retire.

Not to mention any "pre-existing" conditions from years of Pee-Wee, High School. and College football. NFL is just the top of THAT pile.

So every coach in history is a pos that "uses" able bodied athletes and "discards" the bad ones. What kind of colossal complex are you coming from to use that argument against Gibbs?

For sure as when you play a contact sport you are far more liable to get your bell rung and it should be no surprise to anyone at all. If you are worried about becoming injured then take up golf or become a Nascar driver.

I don't know about manly, its more of a love of the game type thing. Broke my collarbone in my last game and was so high on adrenaline I didn't feel it and wanted to keep playing but they wouldn't let me. Started feeling it soon after while take the pads off as the bones clacked together.

Not encouraging in the short term, but that there's testing at all suggests there is some "put your money where your mouth is" going on.

I use that against all the top people who benefit from other humans misery, not just those in football. When you hold up large sums of money in front of poor people you can get them to
participate in almost anything, even when they know the dangers.
Then there is the lure of fame but that is for another subject.

I do not disagree with your point of view, but wouldn't race car team owners apply as well? Paying millions of dollars to a person to drive a car at high speed where there's a chance of death or serious injury? Or a crew chief who leaves a driver out in a 'wrecking loose' car just hoping at catch a beneficial caution? That logic applies to NASCAR (and racing in general) as much as it does football. Though I'll concede the chance of individual injury is much higher in football.

You watch NASCAR right? Men have died providing you with entertainment. What's your level of responsibility in this context? A rhetorical question. Your assertion is over the top IMO.

That is what I am talking about as the love of the game, the camaraderie of being on a team and the battles won on the field have nothing to do with being manly but everything to do with being passionate.

Never had one but Ive seen plenty of teamates recieve one and it messed them up for a bit. They were right back playing next week. Anyone who's ever played a sport knows they are at a risk for injury, that's why I think these lawsuits against the NFL are a joke.

I don't care if their wives are wiping drool either, that man got to play football for a living and made alot of money doing so. There is a price to pay for everything and if you play football long enough the price is going to be your physical and mental health.

That's a very high price to pay for dying at 51......

I guess everyone has their own priorities ........ success and money compared to longevity.....

I am a fine one to talk..... I am 63 and smoke and drink.....eat 1 meal a day.. late at night.. mostly fried foods or fast foods.... hardly any vegetables....... I can feel the effects..... but..... continue to do it.

I'm about the same only 25. Only vegetable I eat is corn. Smoke Marlboro Reds and drink Budwiser.
