SILLY SEASON 2019

Looks like Newman is doing OK getting sponsors even driving for RFR.

Just speculation, but I'm guessing the amount of money that you're required to pay per race is significantly less at RFR than most other places in the garage. So you think it would be easier to get your name on the car

More sponsors are better than less, and NEW ones are even better. Plus, I don't think Roush Fenway is discounting these sponsorships and more than anyone else is, including RCR. When Ed's Body Shop and Smitty's Bait and Tackle start showing up on the sides of Cup cars, I'll know the end is near.

This could be true or false but I have read where some teams have said they had more sponsorship money 10 years ago and others 5.

I think some companies really got a wake up call when the title sponsorship price dropped from 75 million to 20. Why would a sponsor like Lowe’s drop 18 million a year to sponsor the 48 car when the whole series could be had for essentially the same price?

Nascar and the teams don’t like transparency like stick and ball leagues and teams do. At this stage of the game the less transparency for NASCAR the better.

Or DogeCoin :D

STICK AND BALL ALERT

In those other sports, the sanctioning body is run by a commissioner selected by the teams. NASCAR doesn't have any direct connection with the teams. I doubt it cares how much they bring in as long as the entry fee checks clear.

In those other sports, there are publicly known salary caps, and the commissioners are responsible for enforcing them. There is no NASCAR equivalent.

More reasons why comparisons to other sports rarely reflect the business of motorsports. This has been a STICK AND BALL ALERT. Had this been an actual stick and ball event, you would have been informed where to tune for complete coverage. This was only an alert.

Call it discounting or whatever you want but it's pretty obvious that there is dramatically different prices to get your name on the side of a car. I bet there's a large price difference per race to sponsor a Hendrick car vs a Front Row one.

Not sure if it's still true but I remember hearing in the past that Hendrick would rather put his own auto parts company on the car than discount the sponsorship and devalue his sponsorship costs

Mentality probably has changed due to the market changing. Nationwide and Axalta probably have reduced the amount given to Hendrick because of Bowman and Byron being the drivers. Not Gordon and Dale Jr representing them anymore. I wish we could see exact values because both companies with Dale Jr and Gordon had some obscene amounts of money.

My point was that it was implied that these new sponsors aren't paying anywhere close to what the other sponsors on the car are paying, or at least that is the way I interpreted it. I am making no claim that sponsors are paying as much as the did two or five or ten years ago. For instance, if you sell sponsor X 20 races on car 6 for say, $200,000 per race, you can't turn around and sell sponsor Y a five race package at $100,000 per race. The value of your car's sponsorship is the lowest price you will accept, and before long, EVERYBODY will know what that is. That's why somebody like Hendrick or Haas will put their own name on the car, rather than accept a lowball deal that would serve to do little more than piss off their other sponsors and de-value the car's value.

That 20 million paid by monster is more or less the tip of the iceberg. There is so much more involved your not taking into account.
Sponsoring a car with a legal binding contract at least gives you the total cost.

it's a drama number, Monster pays quite a bit more in addition to that. Same poster didn't know Monster was sponsoring cup this year until I told him so. :D Same one twisting the thread also.

They have no other choice but to improve. No feeder program, so all the focus can go to the Cup series.

yeah it is possible, but with Roush's track record of shooting himself in the foot I don't think it will happen, he can't quit micro managing and I don't think he is that good at it. Stenhouse's hauler though is bad ass.

ThorSport is ready to take that lead again, its a great signing. I wonder if Ben will be in the 27 instead of the 41? The 27 was Briscoe's entry last year.
you probably got that right, I was thinking Rhodes saying he isn't going to be in the 41 meant he was leaving the team. Sauter and Craftsman back together again. I didn't think that was going to happen. Glad Sauter wasn't left hanging, he's in a just as good ride IMO. Moffitt is going to have his hands full with that bunch

Johnny is going to be a man possessed this year. I expect him to give no ***** at all. Crafton probably needs him as well to pickup his game again. Interesting to see ThorSport taking on the veterans instead of the pay drivers like they have in the past. Hayley, Coughlin, etc. With Sauter/Crafton/Enfinger combo is going to be a scary sight along with Jesse Little rocking those ThorSport trucks... This year is going to be interesting for the series. I expect GMS to take a step back IMHO.

Thorsport's place burned to the ground was it year before last? Could be why they signed up who they did for last year. Eh GMS might only have Moffitt, I don't know much about Sheldon Creed last years ARCA winner. He ran 5 races with GMS last year and he was all over the place. Friesen is an affiliate though this year and he is pretty salty. KDB has Burton and Gilliland I believe, a couple of youngsters, I think they will do pretty good, and Jones and Eckes part timers in the 51. Little and Austin Hill are a couple of good wild cards

It is yet another example, before somebody chimes in with how terrible Petty's team is, of hanging in there and giving yet another driver the opportunity to be able to compete and a chance to be recognized for their abilities. I know Almirola is grateful his. He is running a knife to a gunfight but he's getting his licks in. Like Jack Roush said, in this day and time the little teams showing up and having much of a chance in the age of finite analysis of parts, and the engineering teams involved make it almost impossible for them to come from behind and win a race.

I am curious as to why either of those teams (Petty or Roush) are underfunded and unable to compete at an elite level compared to the top tier teams? What is stopping them?

If you or anybody knew that you could start your own team. These owners of the larger teams are billionaires, I would say they are pretty sharp businessmen.

I love it, but I recall when Bret Bodine went with a green car on the 26 and he was nearly shunned for using the "Bad Luck Color" but he did pretty good and the negative pressure waned.

Gatorade, Mountain Dew and Skoal sponsored cars a long time before Bernstein's #26 hit the track. Original driver of that car anyone?

The fear of green really dropped off when Interstate Batteries had green all over Bobby Labonte's #18 when he won the title.

The original driver of the Quaker State #26. JOE RUTTMAN then
MORGAN SHEPPARD.

KENNY BERSTIEN bought the team from a guy last name Hawkins. I believe the #13 Carolina Tool Team. With Larry Mac. came along as crew chief.
