SILLY SEASON 2019

Got to wonder what manufacturer they are moving to. Any ideas? They bring up Toyota, it that it?

I would think Toyota would be the only one that would really show interest. They're the only ones that I see possibly giving out some manufacturer support.

I can't see Ford going after anymore than they already have with 4 at SHR, 3 at Penske, 2 at RFR and 2 at Front Row, 1 at the Wood brothers and 1 at Go Fast. Pretty sure the manufacturer support is pretty slim already for a few of those teams. Only thing that might sway them to Ford is a technical alliance with SHR or Penske; one with RFR I think would be a step back from one with RCR.

Thanks. If the change takes place it might mean better tech and support for teams like Bubba's. That would be a positive for them.

I for one would love to see LFR get Toyota/TRD support. The Levine family is a great bunch and I'd like to see them succeed with all of the hard work they have put in to help their team grow.

I think it's going to happy, and I am 100% with you. I would love to have Kasey as part of this as well.

If the rumors are true, this could be just the thing Kasey Kahne needs to rejuvenate his career. I’d love to see him rack off a few more wins and be competitive.

LFR is a family run team that has built their way from a start and park. NASCAR needs more stories like that.

I truly agree. Roughly the same age as Martin Truex Jr. I think, and TRD was very appreciative of the year he spent with them (and the win). This could be very interesting, and a great story. My wife and son are bouncing with anticipation....Kasey rode the elevator and had breakfast with them in Fontana a couple of years ago.....I mean just because. Pretty cool. He was with Hendrick at the time so I wouldn't allow my wife to cheer for him :D.

I remember when Scott Speed was there and I think Scott did a great job to help the team grow from that S&P organization to actually qualifying into races on speed. This team really has grown into a solid team, just needs that sponsorship now.

The TRD/JGR support will take them to FRR potential.

That was my hope when Kasey went there that he would help that team to build up to a competitive level, just like Furniture Row first with Kurt and then fully shown with Martin.

If they were to stay partnered with RCR, I'm not sure they could ever make progress on the 1.5 mile tracks, which is their biggest weakness. Switching to Toyota/TRD is definitely what I'd consider a step in the right direction. If Kahne stays and they get new/bigger sponsorship, there's going to be even more pressure for the team to get top 15 finishes on all circuits. I feel like they've learned enough to do well next year, but running a toyota with a better engine package would certainly help.

I hope this happens and the success comes their way. They've all worked incredibly hard to get this far and they deserve it. Besides, the day Kahne retires, I'm done watching. Hopefully I don't have to stop any time soon :D.

You are aware that there are Toyotas, and then there are TRD Toyotas, right?
You do realize that to Joe Normalman the only thing TRD offers is some half cooked offroad shocks and springs and mostly decals and badging. The showroom TRD Camry still has far less HP than the Fusion Sport, even with more spokes on the wheels and quad tipped exhaust.

Exactly. Teams like BK Racing running that Triad stuff or Race Engines Plus or whatever, is a HUGE difference from the support they would receive under the TRD/Gibbs umbrella.

I thought LFR had an alliance with Hendrick this year, not RCR?

I for second would like to see them in the TRD camp.

kinda makes sense ya know, Hendrick paid Kahne's salary to leave, probably made a swinging deal for support.

Joe is an idiot. We used to hang. Now, I'm hear. Not sure if it's an upgrade or not. :p

A couple of years ago, David Wilson said something to the effect that TRD has as much to do with non-TRD teams as they do teams from other manufacturers. There is a HUGE distance between the Triad stuff and TRD....much more than engine stuff. They get the chassis shop and all of its tools in Salisbury in addition to the engines from Costa Mesa. The Salisbury facility is of particular importance in that they have everything a team would need so they don't have to pay for it themselves. I would imagine that this would be huge to Levine. They will be getting their stuff from JGR just like FRR does, but then the help (if they need it right now) on the engineering side from TRD whereas FRR is set up in that department. The TRD model is the perfect formula for a team that wants to take the next step, but can't find the money. This is a big time perfect match. However, getting it to work is dependent on the willingness of JGR. TRD can completely engineer a car if need be (think Waltrip and Red Bull in 2007-2011), but it isn't what JGR can do with the TRD stuff. I find that fascinating. TRD cannot do this without JGR, and to some extent, JGR cannot do this without TRD. Pretty cool IMO.

Yeah, I thought they would be with Hendrick too.....

To Joe Normalman, it's all just cars going around in circles anyway. There are aspects of every sport that non-fans don't even know exist until they get interested. The difference levels of manufacturer involvement across teams is one of those aspects.

I agree. This is one of those deals IMO where I wish the sport could inside out itself. At the end of the day, it is pretty simple what needs to happen for success in this sport, but how drivers, teams, and manufacturers get there is really, really cool. This does not seem to be of interest, however, to networks. A shame.

Garage rumors: Barney Visser might shut down FRR after loss of 5-Hour Energy sponsorship.

Me (and many others): "Say it ain't so, Barney."

Barney: "It ain't so."

Sponsorships in NASCAR vary widely. Farmers Insurance was paying Hendrick Motorsports $8 million for a 12-race sponsorship in 2017, considered to be at the high end of the sponsorship scale.

That's a lot for 12 races.

Wow.

I love the part of the article where it says that you can "see" the lower center of gravity.....and the part where it will be available in early '18 which is kind of past, and unveiled at the LA Auto Show which is kind of late 2018, right? The article is largely lifted from a Car and Driver piece where they blow smoke about stuff that could be coming--maybe even has some truth in discussion, but nothing in production.....and they hadn't seen the cabin, but that didn't stop them from showing a picture of the cabin.

So a no show on the rice burner and yeah he was right, the showroom TRD is no match for the Fusion Sport ;)

....now the Playoff Spec Camry? That will be a completely different story. :D

It isn't half as bad as the Pinocchio Supra that nobody has seen in a showroom or anywhere else. ;)

You might be surprised to find out that I agree with you. I hate that the street Supra is 1/2 BMW. Hate it, and even if I was in the market, I wouldn't buy it because of that fact. The Xfinity car is awkward in all honesty, but get used to it, it will be in Cup before you know it. It is the only think Toyota can bring to the party with Camaro and Mustang, and yeah, I'm not sure that Supra should be mentioned in that company. All in all, however, I like Toyotas effort to play along, and well, as you noted, any excuse to mess with that nose is good by me. :D

I think it goes to the lack of leadership Nascar has at this point. To me it is as outlandish as a two seater Corvette front end being allowed or a Ford GT. The line has to be drawn somewhere, because the other two manufacturers can say..look at Pinocchio
