SILLY SEASON 2019

I’ve heard rumors Nelson Piquet Jr. is being considered for the GMS car next season

Team Kroger evaluating possible driver changes for 2019 names like Daniel hemric Ryan priest being thrown around..

JTG-Daugherty will not do anything worth writing home about so long as they run discount RCR/ECR stuff. Doesn't matter if you put the ghost of Dale in there.

Hemric and especially Preece are good drivers but going there is a good way to end a career before it ever really starts. See: Buescher, Chris. Unfortunately there are some talents in Xfinity/Truck but just not enough good seats at the Cup level to accommodate them right now. Can't McMurray retire already or something?

Dinger is signed until 2020. Buescher and Dinger are 23th and 24th in the standings, respectively. They just need to go ahead and get the chassis and engines from HMS. They have an HMS chassis with an RCR/ECR engine package. Source:

The cars have not been great and to get rid of Buescher or Dinger would be a bad move. Also, not to waste careers have some highly touted Xfinity drivers in Preece and Hemric. Changing the drivers will not help anything, unless JTG steps up.

JTGD's alliance with HMS is for engineering and set up work. I'm pretty sure the chassis are built by Childress, like the motors. The linked article doesn't say either way, but my recollection is... all RCR hardware in 2018.

JTGD's lack of competitiveness this year has been a real disappointment to me. I had hoped for progress, and have not seen any.

Buescher is an ARCA Champ, 3 time Xfinity series winner and champion in Roush equipment when the team was a dumpster fire, and fluke or not, a Cup series winner and finished 4th in the 34 at Bristol. If they replaced him with Daniel Hemric who has yet to win a race in any form of NASCAR, it would be the stupidest move of all time. My money is on the Dinger. He has talent but hasn’t been close to the success Ambrose or JPM has on the roadies and only has 3 top 10s in his last 10 road course starts. I realize that’s partly equipment but Ambrose was always a threat and brought it home top 5 in the JTG car, and won in petty equipment twice in Cup. And when Montoya ran for Ganassi they weren’t exactly a world power either. I think it’s dunskies for the Dinger

That’s great, but I was asking about the Piquet rumor.

If Preece or Hemric show up with a decent bit of sponsor money..somebody is leaving.

I don't think it comes down to sponsorship on this team Kroger owns part of the team and certainly funds both cars.

When did this happen? That's news to me

The team is owned by former advertising executive Tad Geschickter and his wife Jodi, along with current ESPN analyst Brad Daugherty.

there is no ownership here:

As Kroger enters its ninth year as a primary sponsor at JTG Daugherty Racing, the supermarket giant is expanding its involvement in the two-car operation by rebranding their marketing efforts to create Team Kroger ClickList Racing for 2018 and beyond.

Well maybe they don't have ownership in it but they are certainly invested into it

maybe? got to have your facts straight around here, or anywhere for that matter. As it goes, there are many secondary spots to fill, or for 2019 Kroger could be backing off

Kroger is a sponsor, not an owner. None of the links posted report anything remotely related to Kroger becoming a team owner or co-owner. I'm sure it would have been published somewhere if Kroger acquired team ownership.

EDIT: Sorry, I see that @StandOnIt has already posted this.

What do you mean maybe? Kroger is advertised in the team name and branding. It’s on the team’s Twitter. They may not have ownership stake but they are clearly invested in the team.

I never said they owned the team. I said that the team rebranded under the Kroger Clicklist moniker with sponsorship for both cars.

Here was the post I was responding too. JBone? it wasn't directed at you and my original comment was that if Preece or Hemeric came up with a decent amount of sponsor money somebody is leaving, and I will stand by that quote.

That's cool you're right Money Talks.... but as far as a rebuttal I don't think it comes down to more sponsorship being the ultimate decision in my opinion

you ever give a thought to it might be Kroger wanting a change? this stuff works all kinds of different ways

Daughtery was less than patient after AJ missed that shift in Sonoma. Sounded weird. Like maybe he was done with him. My two cents.

I think that the FRR thing becomes weirder and weirder. Nate Ryan pointed out on NASCAR Radio that it is strange that Barney issued a press release to address a rumor. Additionally, he pointed out that it was weird that the TRD/JGR alliance had not yet been extended. Throw in the rumor about Levine, and you have to wonder what the hell is going on. TRD has a lot on the line. Lose Barney, and you have a piece of your Driver Development Program gone as FRR has the infrastructure to run two cars. Additionally, lose FRR, and you are down to four cars and one team--and where the hell does Toyota put the reigning Cup Champion? If you get Levine, you recoup a part of that, but gone is the additional car potential for your Development Program (I think). Curious happenings.
