Silly Season 2020

Jones has proven capable of winning and Suarez hasn’t, thats a pretty big difference. I’d rather have a driver that can get a bunch of top 5s, 10s, bur is inconsistent over a guy that finishes 12th every week. Kasey Kahne was like that, and he did pretty okay for himself

Inconsistency drives me absolutely crazy, and when Kahne was at HMS, he made be want to pull my hair out in frustration 90% of the time. When he was good, he was good, and when he was bad, he was ABYSMAL. On the other hand, perhaps my all time favorite stretch of racing fandom was in 1998, when Jeff Gordon scored 17 straight top five finishes and 23 out of 25. Even if he hadn't won a race in that stretch (He won 11), it would STILL have been the greatest run in NASCAR's modern era. I am also very fond of the 15 straight top 10's Harry Gant put together in 19984 to nearly snag a tittle.

Won’t be a B team next year. Kenseth’s contract was up & his asking price was massively steeper than jones, but why let common sense & good business stand in the way of a worn out biased narrative?

Oh, trust me, LFR will STILL be the B team. Maybe a vastly improved one, but still the B Team, just as Furniture Row was.

if jones has a breakout year I wonder if they would even still risk keeping him lest another team would try to scoop up Bell.
just my 2 cents

I admit to a Kenseth fan's bias toward consistency :D

The first sentence sounds like an opinion to me, but it regards Jones performance, not JGR's management practices.

The second is an exaggeration but isn't inaccurate, in my opinion. Do you disagree that JGR had dropped better drivers than Jones?
10 million for a veteran Champion or 500k for an up and comer? Looks like it worked out if this season is any indication. It isn’t always about talent....

If you're referring to Kenseth, I've never questioned JGR's decision. At the time I posted I understood it and to a small extent I even agreed.

Regardless of the reason for this decision or any others, regardless of whether it was a good or bad decision, do I understand you to be agreeing that on at least one occasion, JGR has cut a driver who has performed better for the team than Jones did in 2019? That's all I saw in SOI's post; you're the one who keeps bringing up the team's decision making.

Absolutely.

Cassill out, Houff in at StarCom:

A shame because I think Cassill did well for them, I wonder if Cassill moves back to Xfinity full-time? Also, Cassill has another year in his contract with the team...

That's sad and beyond stupid. StarCom has really improved over the last two years and Houff will be a huge downgrade for them.
I hope Cassill goes full-time with Morgan's Xfinity team.

Pay-to-play.

Sounds like they will honor Landon’s deal in some capacity but how remains TBA. At the very least Landon should have a decent Xfinity ride. Taking the S&P Shepherd ride to where it finished at Homestead was no small feat.

Timmy Hill has had some sensational runs in the XFINITY Series this year too.

And unlike most drivers in that tier, Cassill has had top-tier rides in the past and not delivered results.

Top tier rides when? He was in a JRM car for a couple of races, he was a development driver for them. That's about all I can remember.

The only half-decent ride he had was FRM, but he did not fare that well in the 38. Cassill is a solid driver, nothing special, but he helped Johnny Davis out quite a bit when he was driving the 01 car. Everyone talks about Chastain, but Cassill was a huge part of JDM making strides quickly after 2015 onwards.

I can see him helping a smaller team in Xfinity getting a start and needing a good shoe. I'd like to see him actually get a full-season in something good in the Xfinity series. Him in the 89 or maybe a second car for Sieg or Brandonbuilt would be cool. I think Cassill just did not have the sponsorship backing to stay in the 00. He's a good steady hand for any team IMO.

Cassill is good, but he's not Superman like some are making him out to be. And Quin Houff isn't as bad as people are making him out to be either.

Never said Houff was bad, I'm not making Cassill out to be a superhuman, but his career has been a case of bad timing. It happens, but I'd like to see him get a good enough car for a full season. If, Morgan Shepard can get enough for a full-season, I'd like to see what he can do in the 89, for sure.

Not overly impressed with Houff, but Cope probably needs the money to stay somewhat competitive.

yeah sorry, talent and Cassill in the same sentence? Unless it's talent that he can not push and keep the fenders on the car, that is a sort of talent.

Some of these drivers should take notes from Ryan Preece if they're so convinced of their talent. Instead of having to run full-time in Cup and XFINITY, maybe they should save up and get a three-race deal with Gibbs or something and impress with a top-five.`

"He was only 18," presented by the same sport that ****mouthed Todd Gilliland and Harrison Burton for not winning at 18.

Yeah because Landon Cassill went winless in 2 full seasons in the best equipment in trucks. One of these is not like the other

Todd Gilliland has a win and would've had more if not for some bad luck.

I get that everyone thinks Landon Cassill is The Real Deal, but he's not the first nor will he be the last to not get to show his true potential in this sport.

Quin Houff isn't a rich kid either. And he's a good driver, possibly a better driver than Cassill. If this was literally anyone else losing their ride, nobody would care. But, because it's Landon Cassill, people think a seven-time champion was ousted by Casey Atwood.

And we're talking about StarCom.

Furniture Row wasn't a B team. If you listen to the blab around here, you would know that this was the problem that led to the overcharging which the owner denied, but this board insists exists.

Sure they were. That's why they were ultimately expendable. As long as TRD could move the two stars of that operation over to the mothership, FRR were no longer worth expending any resources on. If Bell is the real deal, sooner than later TRD will bring him home too, and if LFR is 'lucky" they might get tasked to groom Hamlin's replacement for when he retires. Wash, rinse, repeat.

B team won the championship. I know, I know.....that's why the evil master put them out of business. Whatevs. Yawn. Chris Bell will have equal equipment to JGR....and everything in terms of data that comes with it. LFR has never been in better shape. Leavine is over the moon with the arrangement. TRD is happy. All good.

they sure looked like a B team to me, and one that wasn't supposed to do that well. How else do you explain ordering Truex to give the lead away at Indy to the jackass. Even Truex wasn't dumb enough to know that preacher was manipulating the race and personally I don't believe and probably half of fandom didn't believe ol KDB would have given it back. So after that kerfuffle, preacher goes and shows Barney's team who's boss and jerks away a couple of pit crew members who were on Barney's payroll. Anybody else would be mad as hell loosing part of their team, but not ol Barney, not a word.

Two wins in the CARS Super Late Model Tour - one in an extraordinary race at Tri-County and another at Southern National. I was at both races BTW, so try me.

I wasn't arguing with you, calm down. I don't follow the CARS Tour on a week to week basis but I know there's talent.

I just don't see why Houff doesn't take his money to a more competitive Truck or X team instead of the 32nd best Cup car on track.

I have to go with better pay, more exposure, and better competition every time. Sure seems to play out that way, ya don't see too many taking a good Xfinity over a slower cup ride unless it is desperation because there isn't a cup ride available.
