This is actually a pretty big domino effect for JGR, so if Jones leaves that means the Rheem/Ruud funding will not be there for Bell next season?
I'm pretty surprised by this move, I'm guessing Sammy Smith/Heim/JHN one of then will take over the 19 next season.
Pretty great signing for JRM. Never hurts to have a respectable driver who comes with money.
Jones is solid and seems to have an uncanny nose as to where to go and when to do it.
Okay, Bob had an answer for my question. Good news:

Good news. Jones has turned into a solid driver over the years and Dollar likely would've brought out 20 cautions per race.

I mean Drew knew the announcement was coming about Brandon, just like Jr knew the announcement was coming about Busch and used symbols. Dollar wasnt implying he had the ride in the 9

I'd like to see Smith get a shot. I can't say precisely why but JHN doesn't have that new car smell for me anymore.

I agree. I saw Smith race in person at IRP and was impressed. I want to like JHN and and want him to succeed, but much like Jeb Burton, I'm just not feeling it any more. I feel like both of them are Xfinity lifers in a BEST case scenario. If JHN ends up in a JGR Xfinity car, he make us look foolish, but I just don't feel like he is progressing, as opposed to somebody like Gragson, that has noticeably improved every year on the national stage.
He's shown he can win, its the sometimes erratic nature he shows that makes me want to scream at times.
Going back to trucks and losing out on the championship last year really hurt his stock.
I'm the worst at remembering names. I've seen Smith in four or five races in the last few weeks. If a basic vanilla name like 'Sammy Smith' can stick in my memory, he must be doing something memorable.
Anyone coming back to Trucks with that much Cup experience, even from lower-tier teams, should be able to leverage that experience for better results.

I mean I know that team is average at best, but a good driver runs above what the equipment is capable of.

I think Matt is doing alright. Rackley War doesn’t have the budget that Thorsport or KBM does from what I can tell. I’m hoping he gets another season in a decent Truck.
It's more than what most of his competitors have, including some that regularly finish in front of him. As you noted, he's erratic. Until someone shows consistency, it's hard to pinpoint what needs the most work.
His decision making on track... That's about it.
Rackley WAR already confirmed he'll stay for 2023.
Matt got 6 Top 10s so far this year which is five more than what that team got in 2021.

I KNOW he's a lot better than what we've seen this year, so I'm left to believe that truck is REALLY bad. There may be a lot of Chevy's in the Truck Series, but Enfinger and Hocevar are the only two that don't completely suck, and they have a combined one win so far. The rest don't really impress me at all. At this point, Kraus seems to be a total waste of a decent truck, and he may be the BEST of the rest.
I keep having to remind myself, Nemechek is only 25. He had no business being in a Cup car.

You're not wrong there, but even with that, it seems to me he should be dominating the series to the point that a few bad decisions shouldn't hurt him that much.
Valid point. There are guys who have dropped down and then had successful Cup careers.

Tell that to Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch Chase Elliott and Ty Gibbs. With his pedigree, he was a guy I would expect to jump in a Cup car before the age of 21 and be at least serviceable. I realize the equipment was not as good. I'm pretty sure he is better than Harrison Burton.
For every one of those, there's a Casey Atwood and a Buckshot Jones and a Trevor Bayne. Gordon, Busch, etc are the exceptions. For a while it looked like Logano was going to be a wash-out.
JHN isn’t Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott or Ty Gibbs.
That was obvious after watching him in a Cup car during his first season. The second season wasn’t justified.
