Storage building

Blew the saw apart. Some of it under the big rolling bench, some under folding table, some ON the bench. I think it's 16 bolts to nearly fully disassemble. Have to decide whether to build something to semi-permanently attach casters or build it into a bench. The cast iron top is 80% of the weight! Removed the motor from the mount to make it easier to get to the belt. Once had cover off belt, old one looks better than the new. Blew the dust out and put the cover back on.

Supposed to have brushes (again) tomorrow.

And my train of thought derailed. Watching "mods" race at Eldora.

It. Blowed. Up.

And yes...everything is covered in dust. For now, if get the correct brushes, will reassemble & build some sort of rolling base. The casters on the stand are junk. Then build a temporary platform at side doors so can roll it outside to use it.

Got the kit with 20 brushes of different types. One is almost correct. Finally after much searching...stuck them in the vise and ground about .060" off one side. FITZ! Spent way too much time messing with the saw when really needed to be doing other stuff. Did get the side door overhand constructed. Not exactly what I planned but it'll work. We gonna sling shingles tomorrow afternoon. Let's do this thing!

Man this board gets my goat. Obviously I like posting pictures. Not sure how/where/when it went sideways (literally) but sideways it has gone. Really frustrating. Creating other side overhang and have a hybrid type for rear gable.IMG_20251023_094209657_HDR.jpg

This is the rear overhang. Two 2x4 form an L. Finally figured out what to cut the lower end to as for angle. Cut to 43 inch length on long side then make 1/2 ish inch cut at 90 degrees to the 22.5 degree...anybody else confused? Accidentally found it when putting one of them in vise. It slid down and set on the bench on that 22.5 angled end. Like getting slapped up side the noggin. When setting on wall, sheathing is a 24 degrees from vertical. Wall is at????? Was a trick question. Technically it's at 0 degrees...from vertical. Or 90 degrees from top plate. I'll sneak up on it tomorrow. Trim little here, trim little there, cut 3 times and it's still too short deal.

While certainly overthinking this last part, out of 2x4's & money until the 3rd. Supposed to get inch of rain Monday. REALLY need to get this finished. Quite likely don't need to worry about that end angle. Just make it reach from here to there. From top edge of side overhang board too first peak which theoretically is 43ish inches.

Did I mention how much I suck at this stuff?

Put too much salt on my eggs this morning. Bleh. In the trash they went. No Hardee's till next month. I. BE. BROKE! Next month is buy new glasses month! Probably get $115 pair from Zenni and then save for the high-dollar pair from eye Doc. Lens are 600 ish bucks. Thier cheap lens 400ish. OUCH! After cataract strategery. Oh...she says the left eye's "sack" is yellowing. Secondary Cataract is what they call it. Lens is in a capsule (think sammich baggie) and they carve a small hole, suck out old lens, insert/stitch in new. Once healed the back of that capsule tends to yellow. They nuke a hole in it. All better then.

Man those eggs were awful. Bleh, bleh, bleh, bleh.

Neighbor got home around 4:30 and was ready to sling some shingles. I said...you're drunk. Go home. He was in fact NOT drunk but I was too tired to touch anything. Tomorrow morning we finish this beach.

Then I get to sort thru all my junk. I'd guess close to 70% will get thrown away.

Roof is done. Bought 12 packs shingles from a guy, guess they fell off a truck, and had it calculated perfectly except...one pack was 3 tab. Two shingles short. Fortunately the neighbor had a few. Little different color but I ain't racist. The brown ones are on top at rear. It's almost always in the shade so even a reconnaissance flight will never see it. Now to sort the junk and decide how to arrange the remaining stuff. May wait till first of month and get some grey paint for the floor?

Need 5 sheets of the siding like on rear new section. Then try to figure out how to stuff it under the overhang support 2x4's. Need one of those noise/vibration tools to clip the nails I guess. Do a 4 foot section with a stiff-knee under the overhang. Just occurred to me...I didn't nail the damn 2x6 to the top plate. It's just setting on/nailed to those 16" long 2x4's. Whoops! Wouldn't bother me to shoot some nails right thru the shingles to help hold it. It's all outside of the walls. Have plenty of asphalt roof cement to cover the holes.

How many letter U in the word asphalt? Why do I keep trying to put one in?

I'll definitely paint the floor. What beside a serious mopping should I do to the floor before painting?

I somehow feel deflated. WTF am I gonna do now that have no excuse for not being more organized? Need to fix or buy another table saw so can build some cabinets/drawers/shelves. But also need to see if SNAP is completely dead. That's $195 bucks month won't be getting. Get 33 buck raise come January which sure won't cover that 195 dollar loss. Like to buy some sort of toolbox but maybe find some used kitchen cabinets as a substitute?

The addition of the 2x6 overhang used 14 shingles which is 2/3 a bundle. So that is why ran out. May have purchased the odd bundle of 3 tab for the cap but didn't remember.

Removed the saw motor and started disassembly. One of the new brushes is almost completely gone. Junk. I'd have thought buying 40 brushes for 8 bucks would be a goof idea? No chance they'd be complete junk! Going to remove the armature, refinish the commutator, and scrounge up a good set of brushes.

Both were new. Ouch! Need a pair of small snap ring pliers to remove the drive pulley. May just go to Advance and see if can borrow them for the 3 seconds I need. There is a spanner nut under it that have to figure out way to get it off.
IMG_20251029_164214079.jpg

Removed the circlip. Unfortunately the pullers minimum span is just a hair off. Need either a die grinder, Dremel or even a chainsaw file. If the puller was a well designed piece the slots would actually be machined. It's not. It's cast knockoff junk from Advance. Little filing will make it like it should have been to start. Not until first of the week tho. Great thing is no real rush.IMG_20251030_140344665.jpg

Just stumbled onto something on YouTube.

Bought another Delta saw for 20 bucks. Hoped to use the motor out of it as sounds good but doubt it'll fit. For 20 bucks can't lose much. Used motors sell for 100-250 bucks. The mechanism that raises the blade is stuck. Man these cheaper grade saws are absolutely junk. Metal is too thin and box/frame/enclosure is plastic. Definitely a hobby saw. Suppose most of the jobsite saws are built the same way to make them light. I'll fully disassemble and see why the adjuster doesn't want to turn. If fixable possibly add some bracing to it and make a Frankenstein out of the two. Love to have a mig so could do some fabricating. Maybe in the spring.

Ordered another $110 pair of Zenni glasses with new prescription. Wire frame this time as the current plastic frames sit too close to my face. Eyelashes rub the lens. Have to clean half-dozen times a day which inevitably ends up scratching them.

It been rode hard and put away wet. For 20 bucks? Why not. Came home and hit marketplace... exactly same model saw 3 minutes from me for 25 bucks. Trying to resist the urge.

This is why wanted the shed expansion. Like doing little short jobs in middle of the night. Turned out the pulley needed pulled wasn't very tight at all. Might have pried it off if tried. Had one bar of the commutator sticking up on the end probably .100". That would be smacking the brush every rotation plus chewing them up. So I beat it down with a 🔨. When I say beat I mean just a little tippy tap. My guess is it's shorted and that strip got hot and started curling up. Will take it to Johnnie's Electric Monday and see if they still have their stuff to test it. They were a starter/alternator repair shop until it got cheaper to buy a rebuilt. Now they are the best electrical diag shop in 250 miles. Motor took maybe 5 minutes to disassemble. I did hit it with Scotchbrite for about 15 seconds but I was pretty clean before.

Officially transitioned to winter mode at the ole' home front. Pulled the window A/C's out and stuffed the homemade double pane inserts in. They are frame of furring strip with plastic film over both sides attached with double sided tape. Then 3/8 x 1/2" foam strip around perimeter. Have to use a putty knife to get them in. Covered living room window with piece of plywood as it's right next to the TV. Used to have a venetian blind there and would drape a bath towel over it. Blind gave up. It was at least 12 years old and didn't have the little L-bracket support at middle. Old plastic eventually dies.

Need to take the saw motor parts to shop but not sure gonna make it today. Hours work was about enough.
