In my opinion, that was the best looking of ALL of the Havoline cars. I LOVED the look of it, even though it was a Ford. I never thought ANY of the later Havoline paint schemes even came close to this one.
I like the fact that, that car was faster than anything we have today.

Pic of the #17 61 Ford in the countdown thread reminded me of my first track car, it was a 4 door originally built by Ray Young. I cut the roof & B pillars off & welded a Starliner roof on it just because 4 doors were not fast. I was young then:)

The whitewall helped lap times too. Love the 7 pushing the 45 into the wall....
@ the time the quick guys used Polk recap slicks on Vogue tire casings, friggin things were stones & would last an entire season running 4 nights a week & then some. Rubbing my pennies together I ran old Polk take offs on the right side + we ran inner tubes in them.

Don't recall who shoed the 7 or 45, Bill Milan is in the 14 & If that's the 88 behind me Legs Whitcome, both were quick.
The 88 story (maybe BS am not sure): It was a brand new Cutlass, a piece of junk was traded in as the down payment the car was immediately turned into a track car then reported stolen. Stuff like that happened in Chicago.
