WNBA

Got some changes going down in Vegas. Dunno if any of these moves are in any way related to that lawsuit, but over the last month or so, they've lost their GM, Natalie Williams, and the two assistant coaches I always saw sitting next to Becky Hammon on the bench, Natalie Nakase and Tyler Marsh. Nakase and Marsh are moving on to be the head coaches of the Golden State Valkyries and the Chicago Sky, respectively.

Minnesota is losing their GM, Clare Duwelius, and one of their assistant coaches who I really liked, Katie Smith. Clare's becoming the GM and EVP of that Unrivaled 3x3 league that Phee and Stewie started. Katie is going back to her alma mater, Ohio State, to be an assistant coach there. Jacy Sheldon will also be going back to Ohio State to be their director of player development.

I miss watching Caitlin Clark play basketball.
Gonna be a long wait until next spring. In the meantime, you could always go back and watch some games again on League Pass - which reminds me, I still need to sit down and watch the rest of the playoffs. I think I left off at 1-1 in the Minnesota/Connecticut series.

After reading these two pieces, the first of which is a really good, heartfelt piece written by Kelsey Mitchell, I'm very curious to see what ends up happening with her for next season. She's again sounding like she wants to leave Indiana, or like she at least wants to test the waters in free agency - and it's sounding like Indiana wants to core her.

The Unrivaled League is apparently offering CC a "Messi-like" offer
to join the league for its inaugural season starting in Jan. If CC feels
like she has or will get enough rest and recovery between now
and first tip-off, she may want to strike while the iron is hot when there
is crazy "Messi-Like" money involved, whatever that means.

I wish the ladies success with Unrivaled and am glad that they now have another viable off-season basketball option other than playing overseas. That said, I most likely won't be watching it. If the Olympics were any indication, 3x3 ain't it for me. It's way too fast-paced for my liking.

Yeah you are right , I tried a little Olympic 3 on 3 and it didnt keep my attention.
Who knows though, its CC. I might get sucked in again unable to escape. She is just an athletic freak of nature.

it needs to be wimmins beach basketball (featuring the same uniform technology that the wimmins beach volleyball utilizes)

Well, she obviously has to agree to join Unrivaled first. After all the basketball she has played recently, I definitely can't blame her for wanting to just kick back and shank a few golf balls. :lol2:

Looks like Dallas won the Paige Bueckers Sweepstakes.

Kind of a bummer tbh, I think she’d be a better fit with the Sparks and it’d be much better for the league if she were in LA. Now it’s quite likely she’s on a smaller market team playing in a 7k-seat college arena…

Maybe Dallas takes Kiki Iriafen instead though, who’s probably a better fit for the Wings than the Sparks.

Yeah, at least on paper, that's disappointing for me. I was really hoping that LA would get the first pick, just because Dallas doesn't even need Paige IMO. I don't know what happened with them in 2023, but they only had such a bad record in 2024 because everybody was hurt. If that same exact group they had in 2024 was healthy and played some defense as a team, they would have been completely fine.

Oh well. That's the way the cookie crumbles. I hear that Paige is a two-way player, so assuming that she does end up in Dallas, maybe she'll help give them some kind of spark on the defensive end.

Yeah, she doesn’t really need the ball in her hands to make an impact offensively either, but I do wonder if she can reach her full potential playing with a ball-dominant guard like Arike. Though Dallas could certainly use her perimeter defense either way.

If she can manage to find her way to LA then the Sparks would have a really exciting young core in Bueckers/Brink/Rickea Jackson.

Draft lottery came and went and now the dallas wings hold the #1 pick, followed by the sparks, the sky and the mystics. Is paige going 1 to the wings? Also the expansion Valkyries are picking 5th i think? Mercury picking 12th and I wonder if my girl DT is retirig or returning? Should be an exciting draft class.

Paige is definitely going no. 1 to Dallas. I imagine Diana Taurasi's going to retire soon. Her best years are behind her. Maybe she gives it one more year, but that's all she's got.

BTW welcome to our home in the official thread for the Church of Caitlin.

Yeah, I have no doubt that Paige is going to Dallas, and Golden State indeed gets the #5 pick. The expansion draft next month should be interesting. Golden State will get one player from each of the other teams, who get to protect 6 players from being selected. Anyone else is fair game.

Still no news on DT. If she comes back for one more year, Phoenix will be one of the teams I follow ("follow" in this case simply meaning "watch all of their games") next season.
