SILLY SEASON 2018

Lee Spencer said on sirius earlier that Kurt has a contract in front of him, he just has to decide whether or not its how he wants to sign it. She also said she had a team owner in cup call her the other day saying he wants to put together an all-star ride made up of drivers like Kenseth, Danica and others where they run the races they want to and go for the owners championship like teams do in NXS with cup drivers. She didn't know if the owners points would let them do it that way in cup, but she thought it was a noble idea.

Rcr....

I can confirm that Kurt has a SHR contract in front of him. And I believe it's the 2nd one he's been offered from them. It's definitely a haircut, but I don't know that there's a better option for him.
So the ball is now in his court one could say, thanks for the update.

Exactly where else would he go....kenseth certaintly didnt find anything why would Kurt.

Given the choice between Kurt Busch and Matt Kenseth .. who would you rather have in your organization? I recall chatter about Gene Haas having a meeting in Matt Kenseth's motorcoach a few months back .. wonder if Matt is the fallback option if Kurt moves on? Maybe not .. who knows?

To be fair, Kurt at least has Monster. Even at half of what it was last season (meaning 9 races as opposed to 18) that is enough $$ to start many conversations. Kenseth comes with exactly 0 dollars.
Is that number of races for 2018?, 9 ?

@Allenbaba an insider at FCA has told us on another forum to expect an announcement for a Dodge return in 2018 around Speedweeks, then to show off the race vehicle at Michigan over Fathers Day weekend. Have you heard anything about that?

I personally haven't heard any more Dodge buzz (which doesn't mean it's not happening, just means I haven't heard anything). Last I heard they were testing with RCR and it was a total sh*tshow (meaning they were pretty far off from any kind of reasonable competitiveness), so they scrapped it. Maybe they're still committed to coming back, who knows. I can ask around in Miami...I know a few people who would definitely know.

The FCA insider said they were working on a new engine based on the R6/P8 engine that was last raced in 2012.

From that source (who has a very good track record on the other forum):

"According to my source, there is talk with two teams about a 2019 Cup and Xfinity program. The Cup cars would be more than likely new from the ground up and would be badged as Dodge Chargers of course. Xfinity series would get an updated version of the last Challenger Nationwide car just to get the program started. Ram would likely join the truck series in 2020 season with a completely new truck from the ground up to look like the upcoming DT.

...

But sounds like will hear an announcement for Dodge's return at Daytona in 2019 and get the final information at the first race of the year at MIS. Sounds like they are working on the program before final agreements are made, so it sounds like FCA is eager to get back into stock car racing."

Also, thanks for the offer of asking in Miami. I look forward to hearing what you find out.

Interesting. I wonder who the two teams are. Dodge and RCR doing some testing together somewhat recently isn't my opinion or some rumor - it's a fact. So I wonder if they're still in the conversation. I would have to assume yes.

And for the record, if Daytona comes and goes and there's no announcement, it doesn't necessarily mean the source was wrong. Things are always subject to change.

He says RCR and RPM.

That makes sense. RPM is an absolute financial dumpster fire right now...they need funding DESPERATELY. I've heard rumors that NASCAR might actually backstop them financially just so they can compete next season. Two reasons: 1) The King and 2) Bubba. Both help NASCAR as a business, so I could see why they might want to help subsidize if need be.

(Honestly, just between us gals here on the forum, if you can't find funding for the only African American driver in the sport, especially in today's social climate, then chances are you just suck at finding funding. Just sayin'.)

I'd love to see Bubba in a Dodge factory car.

I wonder if Kurt could get a good ride over in Indy Car. He has the talent to race there. If there was a ride I wish he'd go over there and kick some butt. That being said, I bet he signs the contract and races in NASCAR next year.

Time is on Monsters side. I don't agree with it. Makes it almost impossible to get another sponsor and make all of the changes to be ready for next season I would think. And there is Bush's one win record this year also. His record is really dismal anyway. The last time he had over two wins a season was 2005

Gee, and to think they have Bowyer in the 14. He's done such a bang up job this year with all those wins.

Daytona wants Sam hunt to perform at the 500 while monster wants future or fall out boy.

So it seems Kurt will sign and take the "haircut". I wonder, would he be the first upper tier driver to take such a haircut, or was it Keslowski?

Look forward to seeing what buescher can do with hms power

I'm disappointed he isn't going to get that next year/ They have a contract for RCR power in 2018. But technical help from Hendrick should improve their speed somewhat.

Shoe in for the 48 someday???....
Last week on RaceHub, Larry Mac said he thinks Johnson will only race 2-3 more years. I was surprised he said that, but it makes sense when you consider the age of all the recent and soon to be retirees. Lowe's is only signed on until next year and I've read that they may be looking to significantly cut their sponsorship or leave altogether. I wouldn't be surprised if he retires after his contract is up in 2020. Maybe sooner if Lowe's doesn't want to stay on.

could you use the same rationale on Patrick? NASCAR wants funding for the only woman?

I'm not sure why Indycar would be an option for Kurt. With few exceptions, they REALLY expect drivers to show up with money......
And if Monster would go with him to Indy Car, that’d be Money for a little under half the season and probably at a cheaper rate than what it would be for NASCAR. Don’t think it’ll ever happen but fun to speculate, I also would venture to speculate he’d do okay over there too.

I have enjoyed reading through the last couple of pages in this thread and have my 2 cents worth ready to go.

I think the idea of an All-Star team is great on paper but would be awful in practicality.

IDK what is up with the lack of support from the African-American business community regarding Bubba but it is puzzling to say the least. Surely something could be put together for 9 races or so no?

I am looking forward to the next female racer(s) that come to cup but I hope that she has a skill set that suits itself to being competitive in stock cars. I am not expecting the next Jimmie Johnson but someone that can get the results of Suarez-Jones in similar equipment.

The issue with Kurt and salary is interesting for me as a lot of us see a job we would be willing to do for a little bit of nothing but in reality the job of being a Nascar driver would suck in many ways and would totally suck if you were not crazy about people and/or appearances. I have no idea what Kurt's net worth is or if he needs to drive in order to fund his lifestyle but lets hope he has been judicious with his earnings and doesn't need the money. If that is the case how big does the number have to be get his name on a contract to drive the 41? IDK what Kurt is used to making and what he is being offered but at nearly 40 years old he may be just as happy to walk into the sunset than drive for an amount he had to settle for.
