SILLY SEASON 2019

how's that? having one less car and a whole string of "development" drivers with nowhere to go?

JGR has the right to do business with who it wants to and on what terms. Having said that, JGR pretty clearly had leverage and the ability to assist Visser in staying around. They chose instead to nudge the team off the cliff and out of existence.

Cut-throat.

A cut-throat preacher, ol pious Joe was getting beat with his own equipment....found a way to off a competitor. What a guy.

I would have taken the year off if I were Truex and Pearn. Take the year, be with the wife... whatever and look at options for 2020.

Maybe Barney hooks up with another manufacturer or a top ride becomes available.
No way I'd fall right into Gibbs' plan because of lack of options due to such short notice.

I really wonder if any other manufacturer tried to sign FRR? That hasn’t really been determined.

not much has been said about the "want to" Barney has left, having heart by pass surgery and his age. That is a life changing event, I know because my dad had 5 by passes, they crack you open like a nut besides all of the medication you have to take for the rest of your life. All kinds of reasons to leave the sport.

Maybe He said to hell with it.... I forgot Barney had his heart surgery. I’m sure that puts things into perspective real quick

That is one way to look at that , just simply reading what Adam Stern wrote.

You can't blame the guy, and I am sure the stress of running a race team is not good for the ticker, selling his team and going to enjoy the rest of days.

I’ve always been a Truex fan. It’s gonna be tough to root for him at JGR knowing how this whole thing went down.

Sad to see FRR bite the dust. Also sucks for Daniel Suarez. Hopefully he can find a ride.

I am pretty sure that people who fantasize about "taking the year off" don't end up achieving what Truex and Pearn have.

Michael Jordan took a year off to chase around baseballs...think that worked out alright.
I get what your saying though... But I could see Truex takin a year off. Of course his wifes health comes to mind but maybe a break from the sport as well considering the incredible ride hes been on throughout his career. Guys been through it all.

Pearn on the other hand.. No way.Dude eats sleeps and breathes this stuff.

I wonder if Denny Hamlin would be the one getting his walking papers if Suarez had panned out?

Denny kicked to the curb....
NASCAR Nation could only be energized by Denny getting booted. He might be 10th in points, but he hasn’t shown anything brilliant in at least a year. He’s also a loudmouth and a sore loser. I wish he would retire.

You don’t think Tony with his ties to Bass Pro shops could land a sponsorship that would allow MTJ and Pearn to sign with SHR? It’s going to be a bidding war between Jibbs and SHR if you asked me, and I see it going to SHR.

Now that the announcement is finally out and I have spent time in darlington this weekend with FRR I kinda got more of a grasp on how it fell apart in just a few weeks. Here is mainly how I can explain what I was told by someone very close to Barney. Barney agreed to run next year with a strict budget. The deal was in place for that budget for a year. MJT wanted more money and more then a one year contract. Barney said let’s go one year so that gives enough time to regroup and find a new sponsor. MTJ went behind Barney’s back and signed the deal with JGR on Thursday. Friday all members at the track were told the real deal and to accept offers as FRR would close. This had nothing to do with Barney’s health nor the quadrupled price of JGR alliance fee because Barney was going to pay it for at least one year to give them time. But, when your driver leaves and takes the rest of sponsorship, crew and all it left them with no choice. All deals have deadlines and they were up.

As for the 95...JGR has teamed up to now do the alliance with the 95 like they did with FRR. Since they have basically took them out of business they now are giving the alliance to another team. I’m sure to strong arm them in the future if needed like they did FRR in my opinion. From what I know the 95 will have Suarez as the driver and will run Toyota. Now I have heard Arris is not liking something about the whole deal.

The 19 will be the whole car crew from the 78. The team basically will stay in tack so you will have the 78 team just under JGR number 19. So, instead of buying out FRR he just hit the delete button and got the team. It’s a sad day anyone has that kind of monopoly!

The deal could have worked but Truex decided to go get that dangled carrot that had more money attached that’s rumored and is my opinion. It’s sad and really thought of him as a better person then that. Lost tons of respect for him as dumping a team that made him a champion. A driver don’t do it alone.

This whole deal seems just a bit slimey to me. Big league Racing business at its best.

Interesting that SHR is resigned to losing Kurt, seems like he would want to stay in that team over the 1 car but maybe he feels like the outsider with Smoke, Harvick, Bowyer, and Almirola all being close.

If the above is true, then the nasty bashing of Gibbs really isn't in order. He poached a driver. Happens all the time in NASCARland. There really isn't a villain. MTJ wanted more money, the sponsors went with him, and a top team with more money does what it always does in NASCARland. If you want to stop this you cap the amount a team can spend on car/driver. Until then, this is normal and will continue happening until the sport withers further and further on the vine.

Yes because it's completely normal for teams to raise the prices of being a satellite so high that they know they won't be able to exist anymore. Look for Penske to do this to the Wood Brothers next year, and HMS to charge Ganassi 10x the amount he charges now for engines so they won't be able to exist anymore either. Gibbs is indirectly responsible for Truex's decision. He killed a team in the process of "poaching". He deserves every bit of criticism. This isn't retail, it's NASCAR. Competitiveness drives the sport. Once you don't have it, you don't have anything at all.

Read what I quoted. You are bending it. BTW, the big guys poach drivers all the time. This isn't anything new, and if the team doesn't have a sponsor to pay the bills it wouldn't have mattered if Gibbs was giving them the information. From what we know, Barney wasn't gonna fund the team out of this own pocket or his company's anymore. No diver, no sponsorship, no money, no team.

I did read it. You just ignored almost everything I said and repeated what you wrote in your last post. That statement in bold is not true. It's hard to be right when the information you're using is not right. Read what Greg posted above and tell me if that bolded statement could be changed to better reflect reality.

IMO Its pretty simple, the Preacher wanted Pern and MTJ, did everything in his power to put Barney out of business. The Preacher always gave me the impression of a person that would stick the knife in and twist it.

Of course all this took place with the blessing of TRD.

Joe Gibbs' behaviour is so Non-Christian.
