2021 Silly Season

I understand that. But at the same time, I would expect the driver to get the best he can with what he has to work with. Hail Mary moves are not going to get the job done.
I realize that Larson a times got more speed from his car because of his driving style, but at the same time you can't drive the whole race like that. In to many cases Larson got worse finishes because he was driving over the cars limits for to long.

It reminds me of the saying that its easier to slow down an aggressive driver than it is to make a timid driver more aggressive. I agree with you that he makes aggressive moves at times that being more patient would have been the better decision, but I think a lot of that can be fixed with time. People said a lot of the same thing about Smoke and he's a 3 time champion and hall of famer. Not saying that Larson will have the same carrier, but they have some similar driving techniques.

I wonder if Pearn should be in here for 2021 after he blew out of the preacher's asylum.
Probably needed a rest... but now He’s probably missing the track by this point. I’d put his name in here for sure!

Larson to the 14
Bell to the 20
Jones to the 48
Bowyer to the 6 or the booth

With budget cuts coming, there may be a surprise retirement or two. Salary cuts are coming. My list is based on the current situation. Retirements will through everything out the window.

I think it is pretty blockbustery that a guy blows out of the series to go stare at trees and snow as a reason. Doesn't make it 6 months out of the sport. Anything can happen IMO and I wouldn't be surprised. I think Pearn has a non competitive clause in his contract or he would be in cup as it is. Oh, I think he will be a silly season graduate next year after that contract expires.

Not to stir up the usual hornet's nest, but you HAVE to wonder if he actually wanted out of JGR THAT BAD. Not that it's a bad place to work, but I get the distinct impression it is just not Cole's kind of place. If I had to guess, HMS and Penske probably wouldn't be either. With, ED it's a much smaller, more personal organization. ECR is my favorite underdog team in Indycar.

eh it kinda makes sense. Visser's team and headquarters were in Colorado far from the maddening crowd and bosses everywhere looking over your shoulder.

When I raised a similar question, I was assured repeatedly and vehemently that working at JGR is a slice of Heaven with whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

I'm wondering if a reporter will say Cole, what are you doing in Indycar, why didn't you go back to Gibbs?

I think for MOST people, it IS. or even if it isn't as perfect as might think, there is certainly the prestige of working for one of only a few ultra elite organizations in the business, and knowing that the team will have its share of success. That doesn't mean it's a good fit for EVERYONE. and I get the impression Cole is one of those people. I mean, the guy can't even DRESS like a professional.....;)

WWT is there because of Bubba, period. Cash App is probably the same. Bubba moving to the #42 would be an opportunity for him, but a tough situation for RPM.
I think everyone is leaving out an important part. Does CGR want him?

Let's not forget they have had Ross under some form of contract for a while now so they'd be throwing away all they money they've invested in him

Hey @Erinie_Irvan#4, a belated welcome to the RF forum. I am curious about the spelling of your handle... "Erinie" Care to share the origin of it?

Pure speculation for what its worth but.... what if CGR with Bubba's sponsors (WWT and Cash App) from the 43 with some help from McDonalds can expand to three cars? Then you could have Ross, Kurt Busch and Bubba all on the same team. Pretty nice little team you have there. Would I wager on it happening.... no of course not. But it'd be nice to see a new car on the grid from one of the higher up teams in the sport.

Unless you're RWR I don't see any team expanding given this economy

CGR will cater to their sponsor wants more than anything imo.

If Bubba brings the McDonald's retention plus additional sponsorship dollars, that's mighty enticing, even if he wasn't the original choice. How Credit One or Clover views him compared to Ross with Nutrien do not know.

Ross may need to stay in Xfinity for a few until the 1 opens up. He hasn't been as impressive as I thought he'd be this season, so I'll walk back my previous predictions on him going into the 42, even though that's still a real possibility. If it were to happen with Bubba, Ross could go rogue to the 6 or 48. Silly season guessing game.
