2014 Bristol - Food City 500 - Pre Race Thread

I never worry about the weather until the day of. It changes too quick
I think we've already talked about two out of the last three weekends have to run a race later because of pending rain. Each time the race was ran on the intended rain. It is what it is. Air Titan saved our ass 2 fer 2 times this year. I'm counting on that again should it be necessary.

Didn't they say they were bringing the titan to all of the tracks this year?

Some old school Bristol.....

They need to just put a roof on it.. with a big vacuum attached to the top in the middle and put the stands behind air tight see through walls with a ventilation system. :D Its pretty much that simple lol

Except for the carbon monoxide poisoning part ;)

They have more than one truck to haul all their stuff. They'd do it. I don't think you'll see a Wednesday Bristol race but I'd bet they'd still run it up until Tuesday.
I think the way they do it is if the race is finished on time then they will go back to their shops and reload, but, if it looks like they may not get the race in due to rain then they will have a truck bring the extra cars and parts and switch them out at Bristol. To be in Fontana by Thursday they would probably have to leave Bristol by Late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. I think they would have to get the race in by Monday or they would have to cancel the Hauler Parade in Fontana. I sure hope that doesn't happen because i'm going to be there.:) If they get the race in on time I will ask some of the hauler drivers when they get here next Thursday what their backup plan would have been for a rainout.

I'm thinking if they had to make a decision between getting the Bristol race in and the hauler parade in Fontana I'm guessing the hauler parade would lose out. I know what you mean though, those parades are cool. We always go to the parade in Bristol the Thursday before the night race in August.

There's a huge window of time to get in at the very least a 250 lap race @ Bristol. AirTitan should be able to dry that small track real quick. Lights only add to the available time.

I agree 100%.

I use to think the same thing, but i have been to most of the large teams shops while the teams were in and i never seen any extra haulers. They can only haul two cars in each hauler so I'm thinking that they probably hire a high end car transport company like reliable car transport http://www.reliablecarriers.com/ to haul all the teams cars to meet the haulers and a trucking company to transport the extra parts. This has got me curious so i'm going to find out. :)

When I was at PIR a few weeks ago I saw a steady stream of unmarked haulers going in and out of the infield all weekend, not sure what they were hauling but Im betting it had to do with parts and stuff for the teams.

They used extra haulers between the Phoenix and Vegas weekends. A couple of the truck drivers are on Sirius NASCAR Radio each and every week. This subject is talked about each time that they make west coast trips. While you may not have seen the haulers, they exist.

Think about what it takes for these teams to do their testing. They have haulers that take cars to tracks all over the place to do testing. These aren't the same haulers that you see at the track on weekends.

I know Bruton was kicking around the idea of building the dragstrip at Vegas indoors but they scrapped the idea and built it outside.
I hope it happens eventually... but I think it's more or less a pipe dream. It would most likely cost so much to actually make something like this that track owners would laugh and say something along the lines of "I'm getting paid either way... why spend that much on the possibility of rain one or two weekends a year?." I would think if anything like this were to ever happen it would take a loooong time to complete so most likely wouldn't be able to end up on a top series schedule for a while.

They better not forget the state of the art ventilation system. 43 cars running 8,000 rpms for 400 miles creates a lot of CO.

Yup.. I wouldn't be surprised if something like that would run a bill of about 50 million or more... of course Im completely pulling this number out of thin air.. but if the reno at Daytona is 400 million I wouldn't be surprised if that number is a small one.

An another note... I was just reminded of a conversation I had during this off season with a (non NASCAR fan) friend of mine. It was around Christmas time and we were talking about the Daytona 500...

He looked at me with a straight face and asked me .. "what do they do if it snows? is there a dome or something they can close it in?"

I just laughed and laughed and laughed.. and then laughed some more before I explained to him that not only is Daytona in FLORIDA.. where there's no snow... but that Daytona is a giant 2.5 mile track and last but not least the fact that all those cars closed in would most likely kill all the fans.

I still laugh just thinking about how much of a fail that was. *face palm*

Now that the track is already built i doubt it would ever happen. I think it was more about the heat then the rain anyway.
