2014 Bristol - Food City 500 - Pre Race Thread

I'm sure glad I didn't opt for a room. Sat looks good, then I can sit and wait at home until things clear up.

Yep. Looks more and more like Tuesday but as we all know the weather has been crazier than normal this year.

Hello all! I'm am driving up for the race Sunday morning from NC the weather isn't looking good... Any ideas on how long they will delay this thing (god forbid it doesn't rain!) since the track is lit?

I live in east TN. We go from 75 to snow flurries the next day. Don't pay any attention to the weather till the day of.

Thanks for the input its a little over a 2 hour drive for me to the track so I figure it's worth the shot anyways (this will be my first race at Bristol). I've looked at 4 different weather sites that range from 90% to 35% chance of rain so who knows either way I figure its worth the chance to see a race at Bristol!

I just hope that if it does rain that they spend the downtime interviewing teams instead of showing us a race from the past.
I think if it's normal run of the mill rain shower you'll get exactly that. If it is like Daytona and there are tornado warnings and lots of lighting you'll get replays and the like. For every one of those remote cameras that they use for the interviews they have a announcer, camera man and another guy/gal carrying around an antenna to send out their feed. I don't think any of those people want to stand outside in a lighting storm.

From the looks of the forecast this weekend I think your going to get those interviews, and lots of them. We we talking with some friends that arrived yesterday @ Bristol and were told that they were running into both a rain/snow mix. Hopefully all of the weather prognosticators are wrong as usual and we can get an uninterrupted 500 laps of racing in on Sunday. I'd hate to see a race broken up into several segments only to be shortened after reaching the halfway point. It's an investment to go to one of these things and it sucks to be an attending fan in one of those situations.

Just like the 3 rules of boating
1 check the weather
2 check the weather
3. Check the ****** weather

I work Sunday and have Monday off, so I am probably the only person here who wouldn't mind seeing that Sunday rainout. I won't root for it, though.

Monday Night is even a possibility, as the rain is supposed to taper off late Monday. Two night races at Bristol in one year wouldn't be so bad!
You're right of course, the rain chance seems to be ending a little earlier so hopefully we can get it in and a night race would probably be better for the people that have to work.

As long as they can get it in I'll watch it.

4. And make sure the VHF is working so you can "Check The Weather" while out.

I'm off until Wednesday and it's about a four hour drive back home from the track (once I'm on the road, that is) so I could do Tuesday but Monday Night would be a lot better.

Bristol at night?
I *almost* hope for rain to see another race under the lights there.

Of course the one weekend in the year that I'm going to be away and have the DVR set to record the race...is the weekend where it is going to rain and I have no chance of figuring our what to record since it doesn't look like it will stop raining.
