'21 Generation 7 Car news

Oh, well that sucks.
Not really. NASCAR has stated they want the gen 7 to take more aesthetic design characteristics from showroom cars. If this body was the final it would be a gross antithesis of their goal.

True, I just hope they ditch the high downforce package, but they most likely won't.

Still not a big fan of the big ass rear spolier, but this car is looking better and better.
Necessary due to much shorter deck lid. That green house almost reminds me of the goofy looking Aerocoupe.

I like the fact that the splitter has a notch on the bottom that makes it so it can't be sealed off at the bottom.

I will say too the speeds made a big difference. I think it’s what hurt the end of the low downforce era, they were carrying so much damn speed into turns that passing on 1.5 & 2 mile tracks became essentially impossible without a horsepower advantage
Eh, not from what I remember. What are you referring to as low downforce era? I remember the days at Vegas where with tirewear they'd reach 190+ going into 1, then down to the 140s. Drivers drove and passing happened.

Way to much rear spoiler.

Apparently this is just a generic CUP body, so this isn't giving us a good idea of what the Gen7 will look like.

I really do hope they keep that lip on the front though, to prevent the car from being sealed to the track.

The wheels look a few inches wider.
"One of the reasons we're going in a wider direction is to try to maintain the volume within the tire, right? There was a certain amount of contained air volume in the tire today that helps us carry the load of the race car," Stucker said.”

"And obviously if we're going to now take up some of that volume with an 18-inch wheel, then where is the load-carry capacity gonna come from? So that's one reason why we're trying to go wider in order to increase the load-carrying capacity of the tire itself.”

These guys developed and tested 17” tires in 2015 for a change that wasn’t made.

The tire carriers will have to adjust their balance with a wider load. Tire changers will have get used to kneeling a few inches farther from the car.

I doubt that body is quite as generic as has been suggested. I'd say that other than some specific brand styling cues, this will be very much what the new cars will look like. There will be a different curve here and a different curve there, but I think this is a VERY GOOD representation of the new car.

yeah I think it is closer than some think. It has to be close for D/F and other aero and force readings to be in the ballpark.

My guess is that the actual circumference of the tire and wheel won't be any more than it is now. It's just that wheel size will replace tire sidewall.
I was referring to the width, as discussed in aunty's post before mine.

Short rear deck. The air intake tubes running to right behind the grill. That diffuser. I see things that look like they will be more susceptible to damage that would impact performance greatly. Get rear ended, loose the diffuser and the aero is off. And the guy who just rear ended you? His intakes are now bent and restricting air, killing horsepower. I'm not calling it a fail of a design, just seeing things and thinking ahead to when the beating and banging start.

How about these professionals NOT drive like the local street stock guys? I know there WILL be contact. But it's up to the driver to do their best to bring the car home in one piece. I have no problem with some door rubbing but really hated Dale Sr's way of racing.

I think that durability isn't going to be a problem. The car is going to have a composite body, after watching the Xfinity cars that have been racing them this year, it's a much tougher body than the tinfoil they have been making the cup bodies from.
Did you read what i quoted? If you keep the radiator out from under the car in front of you...

Fake news.

The manufacturers are building their own bodies and will submit for approval by NASCAR.

Joey Logano: Next Gen car will put car ‘more in the driver’s hands’
Compared to what he races now in the Cup Series, Logano said a major difference in the Next Gen car is in its brakes.

“The brakes are way bigger on this thing – it stops really good, where our brakes now are way smaller as we try to take weight out of them,” Logano said. “So trying to get used to that feel will be one thing.

“Some of the steering feeling is way different, but that’s still one of the things we want to adjust. When the car gets loose with this Next Gen car, it doesn’t come back until the driver steers the car back – it doesn’t fix itself. And that puts it more in the driver’s hands. And I like that piece.

[QUOTE="ChexOrWrex, post:

Obviously the finished product will "look" more like each individual manufacturer's products, but I'd say unless some major flaw is discovered, this car is 90% of what the new car will look like. My guess is that other than from head on, when you see the new Chevy, Ford and Toyota in raw bodywork, you will have trouble telling those three from this car.

@Hawaii808 I get what you’re saying. I think the biggest thing will be somehow protecting the rear diffuser from getting clipped from behind. Move it further forward flush with bumper?

Hard to tell for sure but it looks like a car would hit the bumper before they got into the diffuser unless it was a pretty big hit.

That picture brings up a frustrating question to me. Why in the hell is the greenhouse THAT MUCH narrower than the track width of the car? That is not at all the way street cars are built.

I wouldn't expect a carbon copy of the street car to make it's way into NASCAR. There's going to be some changes.

To me it seems like an effort to give the cars an aerodynamic edge they do not need. Widen those things out and let them punch a HUGE hole in the air. It has worked forever in the Truck Series.
